Great book for bebinners
This book offers enough exercises to obtain a well practiced hand before moving into harder pieces. Other books seem to offer you building blocks, then show you the pyramide, but miss connecting the two. Shearer does an excellent job of helping all the pieces come together.

Good repertoire for beginning to intermediate players
I bought the three volumes of this series when beginning classical guitar more than ten years ago and still enjoy playing from them. Volume One is great for beginners to intermediate classical guitarists while the subsequent volumes are generally more advanced. Volume One contains some fairly simple pieces that keep to the first position and then some more advanced pieces that shift up to ninth, ...

Loving the Classic Guitar
A well thought-out method of considerable value for the analytically-minded guitar student, or even for experienced guitarists. There are three books in the method: Parts 1, 2, and 3. Part 1 (shouldn't that be "Part One"?) is all about the mechanical aspects of guitar playing: How to hold the guitar, the best ways to place your hands and move your fingers, etc. (Many use the word ...

My son loves it
I ordered this book for my son. He loves playing classical music and this book has very nice selection. He has been playing guitar for a year and a half now and almost all of his music is from this book. There is nice variety from easy ones that he can read right from the list, to lots of difficult ones that he'll keep working on. Anyway, he loves this book and I love listening to the nice ...

Highly Recommend Mel Bay To New Guitarists!
This is an excellent book in the series for Classical Guitar Method. I started with Volume 1 about 3 years ago and I'm up to Volume 3 today. I'm very pleased with the amount of material I've learned. Forget tablature, why limit yourself to play-by-numbers? Mel Bay will give you a solid foundation! Take the time and learn the REAL way to play, and you can then pursue Flamenco or Jazz (which ...

Mel Bay Easy Classical Guitar Solos
This book is o.k. I teach Classical guitar and bought this because I need more pieces for my students to learn and also because it was rather cheap. It's very much like the other Mel Bay book, "Mel Bay's Folio of Easy Classic Guitar Solos" in that several of the same pieces are in both books. This particular book is a lot better because the music notation gives left and right hand ...

Listen Up Music Publishers
You know, it seems like common sense to me, but publishers just can't get it right-MUSIC COMPILATIONS SHOULD ALL BE SPIRAL BOUND! Thank you Jerry Willard and Amsco for attempting this unprecedented feat. Recuerdos de la Alhambra, Sevilla, the Grand Solo and dozens more all in one book! Amazing. Now I have to get volume two.

Great teaching aid!
I found this book while starting a new student from out of town. He had already started in it and I wanted him to have some consistency. I found the book to be very easy, self explanatory and thorough. Good Job! I have ordered several more for new students.

Good, but you need a teacher
This book is nice, but on its second half is very hard for you to go on alone... You will need a teacher and additional studies.

Cool songs, bad arrangements and werid tab
This book had the right idea, but the arrangements are odd, and the the TAB is not normal. I found the TAB very difficult to read, almost backwards. I thought there was a standard TAB but apparently not. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Short but to the point!
This book is concise to the point of being terse. It is nevertheless a scholarly account of the development of the classical guitar from the Renaissance to the present day. There are some fascinating extracts and quotations. What makes this book invaluable are the footnotes and bibliography, which enable you to follow up any line of enquiry. Good value.
