The Complete Enderby : Inside Mr. Enderby, Enderby Outside, the Clockwork Testament, Enderby's Dark Lady7 reviews
Anthony Burgess

Carroll & Graf Publishers, 1996

hilarious intro to eccentric English literati
Leave it to Burgess to create a poet so quirky, so outrageous and neurotic that you have to laugh at every page of his misdaventures. Whether offending strangely clad women in a gay bar or defending himself with a toilet seat, this man lives and was not just created. Clueless about the machinations around him and the pathetic hangers on that want to steal some of his glory, in his poet Burgess ...

Gods New and Used2 reviews
Mark Finn

Clockwork Storybook, 2001

Elvis, Cupid, and Stercutus! O MY!
Mr. Finn's book, Gods New and Used, is the perfect thing for people who don't like fantasy, but know what they like. Each story give little tidbits that add up, like nested boxes, until finally in the last story, everything comes together. My favorite novelette is The Secret Life of Lawrence Croft. It's funny, mean, scary, and very true to life. If you are a member of fandom, this book is ...

A Clockwork Orange (Essential Penguin)5 reviews
Anthony Burgess

Penguin Books Ltd, 1998

MAKE SURE YOU GET THE 21st CHAPTER VERSION
This book Is amazing!!! The way Burgess creates his own slang and original character personas is only a few aspects of his writing. I recomend it to everyone. But to the point of this review, the book is essential with the 21st Chapter, its shows the coming of age in Alex's personality, and it definately humanizes him, makes him very relatable. And that is how Burgess wanted the book to be read.

21st Century Performance3 reviews
Edgar Julian

Clockworks Press, 2001

21st Century Reading
What a great book ! This book was recommended to me by a fellow car enthusiast in Australia so I decided to take a chance on it - I wasn't disappointed. This hardback book has a modern column based page-layout and is printed in a clear typeface with excellent clarity and image reproduction. The chapters are well sequenced and cover a comprehensive list of topics. Of particular interest to me were ...

Voices of Thunder2 reviews
Chris Roberson

Clockwork Storybook, 2001

Kinky Friedman meets Neil Gaiman! Cool!
The back cover blurb of this book led me to think that this would be either the coolest book ever, or one of the worst. Fortunately I was pleasantly surprised. Roberson has created a whole new thing: a supernatural murder mystery. I think that fans of both mysteries and sf/fantasy would like it. Mostly it's just a very interesting story about a freelance journalist who gets caught up in a web of ...

A Clockwork Orange2 reviews
Anthony Burgess

Heyne, 1997

pleasant surprise
I read A Clockwork Orange to help with studying while I was taking Russian in college. (The slang used by characters in the book uses words similar to Russian.) I was pleasantly surprised by the story. The plot follows 15 year old juvenile delinquent Alex. He enjoys ultra-violence, a popular but illegal sport, raping women and girls, and classical music. Alex tells his story to us ...

My Own Right Time: An Exploration of Clockwork Design2 reviews
Philip Woodward

Oxford University Press, USA, 1995

A gem
This is the story of a quest to build a perfect clock (he does come pretty close). It offers a rare glimpse into the private process of creative design.

Girl Genius Volume 5: Agatha Heterodyne & The Clockwork Princess5 reviews
Kaja Foglio, Phil Foglio

Studio Foglio, 2006

High Adventure, Heroic Villains, Dangerous Heroes, Great Art and and Easter Eggs
This is a great series, especially if you're sharp-eyed. Is Baron Wolfenbach a hero or a villian? Well, yes. What about Othar T.? Well, about the same, only ... not. There's a lot for the reader to sort out, which means a lot of possibilities in the storyline, and the Foglio's seem to have gotten the hang of it. The characters are extravagant but well within the bounds of high ...

It Can't Get Better than This

After the Clockwork Universe: The Emerging Science and Culture of Integral Society5 reviews
Sally, J. Goerner

Triangle Center for Complex Systems, 2007

A guide for the perplexed modern
If the modern world seems confusing read this book. This book helps me keep perspective when I see the turmoil of world events. It is a guide to the major intellectual and social transitons happening all around us. Most of us can see that our particular part of the world is in trouble -- look at any profession or social institution and the cracks in the foundation are evident. Sally Goerner's ...

Asylum1 review
Aaron Rosenberg

Clockworks, 1997

Enter Insanity!
Asylum is a game about insanity. The issue of mental illness is tastefully respresented, a careful reminder that the mentally ill are human beings, with real emotions, and real problems. The game takes place in a world where the sun has not been seen in a century, where the United States has become a walled institution, and every person has gone mad, left to either accept it and revel in it, ...

A Clockwork Apple1 review
Belinda Webb

Burning House, 2008

Something out of the ordinary
What a breath of fresh air - in the endless mire of brainless chick lit this book blew me away with its scathing characters and creative plot. I was impressed by the innovative use of colloquial language. A very clever novel and hard to believe it is Belinda Webb's first book. Look forward to more work from this imaginative author.

From Clockwork to Crapshoot: A History of Physics1 review
Roger G. Newton

Belknap Press, 2007

Six thousand years of physics
The book describes six thousand years of science, beginning with Babylon and Egypt, which developed many practical applications and rules in the natural world. The author progresses quickly to ancient Greece and the beginning of abstract reasoning and speculation. We learn about the tight connection between mathematics and physics, indeed this book may be regarded as a history of math as well. ...

The Apollonian Clockwork: On Stravinsky1 review
Louis Andriessen, Elmer Schonberger

Oxford University Press, USA, 1990

A brilliant and playful analysis of Stravinsky's work
I love this book! I read a single chapter every week. It is not difficult reading but the ideas are so provocative that I needed time to digest them. For anyone interested in a creative and non-dogmatic approach to understanding the compositional process of one of the greatest composers of all time, this is the book. Did I mention that I love it?

A Clockwork Orange CD1 review
Anthony Burgess

Caedmon, 2007

Better than reading the book!
Tom Hollander who reads this book does a wonderful job. The slang that is used non-stop in this book can sometimes be hard to follow, but to have Tom, with an English accent read through these funny descriptive terms just makes the book. His voice acting just adds an extra dimension to the text that is enjoyable. I really can't say enough about the voice acting, it is top notch! Now the book ...

Midwinter1 review
Matthew Sturges

Clockwork Storybook, 2002

A solid, entertaining yarn from a talented new writer
First off, in the interest of full disclosure, I have to say that Matt Sturges is a friend of mine. That said, though, I also have to say that my momma raised me right - she taught me that if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything. If I didn't honestly think _Midwinter_ was a hell of a good read, I wouldn't have written this review - I would have written him a private e-mail ...

This is a book I remember from when I was a kid. It is unfortunate it's out of print. The pictures are wonderful, and the story is better.
