All the Way to Lincoln Way : A Coast to Coast Bicycle Odyssey8 reviews
Bill Roe

Rowhouse Pub, 2000

Where to next?
Not only Bill's adventure, but the people, the history, the nostalgia, the landscape, are all captured in Bill's journal. The photos are fabulous! This is one of the best cycling adventures I have read because it is about the adventure, not the ride.

The Stars for a Light10 reviews
Lynn Morris, Gilbert Morris

G K Hall & Co, 1995

Exceptional Writing
I read this book years ago and am currently reading the followup series, Cheney and Shiloh: The Inheritance. Personally, I enjoyed this series (and still do) about the same time I was fascinated with Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman. Apparently I enjoy women doctors in the 19th century...??? Anyhow, this is a wonderful series, not only exceptionally stating the strength of a woman, but Godly views ...

Smart Women Finish Rich: 9 Steps to Achieving Financial Security and Funding Your Dreams (Revised Edition)138 reviews
David Bach

Broadway, 2002

His Grandmother Taught Him Well!
Smart Women Finish Rich is a bit different from other financial books I've read. I have to admit I was surprised with how well David Bach addressed both the emotional and intellectual relationship women have with money. His grandmother taught him well. I am going to say that Smart Women Finish Rich is more for a financial beginner than a woman with financial savvy. It's a well thought out ...

California Fishing: The Complete Guide to Hundreds of Fishing Spots on Lakes, Streams, Rivers and the Coast ...9 reviews
Tom Stienstra

Foghorn Pr, 1997

Must Have Book
I've seen a number of California fishing books but this one is simply the best. Whether you are flyfishing or using spinning tackle, you want to know the lay of the land, where to fish, when to go, how to get there, who to talk to. This book answers all those things. It is an excellent comprehensive introduction to the fishable waters of California. Excellent maps, directions, and local ...

Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil (Dungeons & Dragons d20 3.0 Fantasy Roleplaying Adventure, 4th to 14th ...16 reviews
Monte Cook

Wizards of the Coast, 2001

Excellent product, but be careful
First of all, let me say that this is easily the best module I have ever gotten my hands on for Dungeons and Dragons. It is very well written, provides everything in great detail, and is a hell of a lot of fun to run. As the DM of my home campaign, i must issue a few warnings to those who want to use this adventure. My campaign is set in the Forgotten Realms and thus I needed to do a fair bit ...

How We Crossed The West: The Adventures Of Lewis And Clark9 reviews
Rosalyn Schanzer

National Geographic Children's Books, 2002

A Great American Tale
The adventure and thrill of the Lewis & Clark Expedition is brought to life here in a story that both children and adults could appreciate. In beautiful and carefully rendered folk-style illustrations, and with descriptive text from the actual journals of the participants, the book has the appearance of something that almost could have been written in the early 1800's, when the expedition ...

Laura Ritter Carlson

Lost Coast Press, 2002

Working through the pain of loss of a pet
In our society we have various acceptable ways to deal with the loss of a loved one. Everyone knows what is expected of them and the rituals that we go through to help us to work through the grief. However, the loss of a family pet can be very devastating and leaves the pet owner with no set of rituals to help move pass the pain. "Parting Words/Parting Ways: Saying Good-Bye to Your Pet" fills ...

Butterflies through Binoculars: The West A Field Guide to the Butterflies of Western North America ...9 reviews

Oxford University Press, USA, 2001

The New Standard for the Field!
A while back I wrote a review of the Peterson Series "Field Guide to Western Butterflies", which I had used in the field during the 4th of July Butterfly Count in the Organ Mountains of New Mexico. I gave it five stars as I thought it the best field guide to actually use in the field. The rival Audubon guide to butterflies left me cold because it simply does not show enough detail for ...

Yellowstone Treasures: The Traveler's Companion to the National Park16 reviews
Janet Chapple

Granite Peak Publications, 2005

Excellent tour companion
I brought this book for my family RV trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton last month. It helped us plan our routes, learn bits of history and science, and pick camp sites. The mile markers and corresponding information bits were very useful as we stayed mostly on the grand loop. I highly recommend this book, particularly to first-time visitors.

Return to the Tomb of Horrors (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Tomes)15 reviews
Bruce R. Cordell

Wizards of the Coast, 1998

An Intense Deathtrap Challenge Even For Experienced Players
Return to the Tomb of Horrors is a new boxed adventure module based on the old S1: Tomb of Horrors module from tournaments and 1st edition AD&D. The scenario is intended for four to eight characters from 13th to 16th level. Like the original Tomb by Gary Gygax, Cordell's Return is an intense deathtrap challenge even for experienced veterans of the game. Set in Greyhawk but usable in any ...

Return To White Plume Mountain7 reviews
Bruce Cordell, Penny Williams

Wizards of the Coast, 2002

Toadkiller Dawg says "Smart, challenging and fun!"
At first thought, the original WPM would seem to be a poor candidate for a "modernized" sequel. Contemporary players would probably laugh at Lawrence Schick's 1980 classic as an archaic dungeon crawl full of over-complicated traps and large, deadly monsters that sit in tiny rooms with nothing better to do than wait for a group of PCs to come along and (hopefully) provide some much needed feed. ...

Business Traveler's Guide to Golf: Quick Access to Courses Coast to Coast7 reviews
Jeff Barr, Terry Jacoby

Triumph Books, 1999

To a golfer on the go, as vital as a reliable putter!
This is more than just a listing of great golf courses, although it is jammed with great places to play. The book offers a travel-guide approach to golf. It is written for the business traveler on the road with a half-day to kill, or for those unlucky enough to visit non-golfing in-laws. It's for the best man at a wedding with free time before the rehearsal dinner. Or for any golfer who ...

Hesselbein on Leadership (J-B Leader to Leader Institute/PF Drucker Foundation)7 reviews
Frances Hesselbein

Jossey-Bass, 2002

Class shows
Frances Hesslebein is one of the world's greatest leaders. In fact, Peter Drucker (no "easy grader") said that she was the most effective executive that he had ever met. _Hesselbein on Leadership_ is a compilation of her wonderful essays (largely from the journal "Leader to Leader"). In a world where many leaders have gone for the "quick buck", it is gratifying to hear from someone who is ...

Bicycling America's National Parks: California: The Best Road and Trail Rides from Joshua Tree to Redwoods ...7 reviews
David Story

Backcountry Guides, 2000

A Unique, Concise, Thorough, endlessly Readable Guidebook.
I just returned from a mountain biking vacation to Joshua Tree National Park, Mojave National Preserve, and Santa Monica Mountains National Recreational Area and this guidebook proved indespensible. It contains almost all information necessary to plan your trip and somehow manages to be both concise, thorough and readable. Story introduces each chapter with a brief description of the geography ...

Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Rockies7 reviews
Linda Kershaw

Lone Pine Publishing, 2000

Terrific field guide
I bought the Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Rockies book when we moved to the Rocky Mountains and it has been indispensable. It is a well written reference guide with lots of information about each plant and great color photos to help you identify them. A must for anyone wanting to learn how to safely harvest wild foods in the Rockies.

Foghorn Outdoors California Fishing: The Complete Guide to Fishing on Lakes, Streams, Rivers, and Coasts ...7 reviews
Tom Stienstra

Avalon Travel Publishing, 2004

This Is What You Need To Know
I have had this book for three years and it is by far the most valuable resource on fishing in California that I own. Locations by region, maps, directions, and discussion of some incredibly obscure spots I never knew existed. The first thing I do when planning a fishing trip with the fellas is open this book and start exploring the hundreds and hundreds of rivers and lakes Tom outlines in ...

Here it is. If you're looking for a terrific guide to places and people along the Lincoln Highway, past and present, you can't find a better guide than this book. Plenty of images, maps, postcards, and other memorabilia place this resource among the very best of roadside guides. Use it for historical research. Use it for trip planning.
