This book is very detailed on information needed to plan a vacation trip along the Oregon Coast. It's laid out by milemarker along Hwy 101, has lots of travel tips, places to stay, activities, and things to look into, such as parks, museums, etc. It has adequate lodging and dining information, although this informaiton may degrade quickly over time. Amazon promoted the book to me as a photo ...

Cruising Guide To Coastal North Carolina2 reviews
Claiborne S. Young

John F. Blair Publisher, 2005

The guide is very useful
I've used the previous edition of this guide and have found it to be very useful in preparing a trip. The guide appears written from the perspective of a small powerboat, thus encouraging quite a few surprizes if taken too literally. It is not clear how "updated" the new edition is. I've found I got tired before I could find substantial changes or cruising insights.

Guide to the Beautiful Maine Coast
After spending last summer in southern Maine, I was delighted to see this book. It provides information such as travel strategies and touring itineraries. The author lives on the mid-coast, but grew up around Portland. You know the format for these handbooks means you get solid information on an area. I'm looking forward to another summer in Maine where I'll see so much more with this ...

The Ravaging Tide: Strange Weather, Future Katrinas, and the Coming Death of America's Coastal Cities9 reviews
Mike Tidwell

Free Press, 2007

Climate Change is Real
The flooding of New Orleans resulted from a combination of effects: subsiding land, sea level increase, destruction of protecting wetlands, and of course a violent storm. Tidwell's thesis is that sea level will continue to rise and tropical storms and hurricanes will increase in intensity, all as a result of climate change. The entire East Coast of the United States will be as vulnerable as was ...

Coastal Fishing in the Carolinas: From Surf, Pier, and Jetty9 reviews
Robert J. Goldstein

John F Blair Pub, 2000

About as good as it gets...
I'd have to say this is one of my favorite books on fishing and one of the most complete books on fishing a particular area that I've ever read...even right down to information on exactly where to fish for each species. This book is well written, easy to understand, and well suited to anyone trying to learn how to fish (or how to fish better) from surf, jetty, or pier. Highly recommended.

Coastal Processes with Engineering Applications

The world's coastlines, dividing land from sea, are geological environments that are unique in their composition and the physical processes affecting them. Initially used for naval and commercial purposes, more recently recreation and tourism have increased activity in the coastal zone dramatically. Shoreline development is ...

I find this book an excellent reference book for the study of coastal geomorphology. We have just finished a long coastal assignment and this was a major reference for my essay. Thanks for your prompt delivery, that was my most hoped for wish, that it ...

Best field guide I have seen for Pacific salmonids.
The plastic bag viewing chamber is a great addition for the identification of juvenile salmonids. The illustrations are very understandable and the photography is very good, with standardized backgrounds a real plus. This manual will be very useful for our salmon and steelhead restoration project for making sure those involved will have a resource for checking the identification of salmonids ...

Inshore Angler: Coastal Carolina's Small Boat Fishing Guide1 review
Mike Marsh

Coastal Carolina Press, 2004

Great Book!
I just about read this book from cover to cover in one sitting. It is so full of useful tactics and information for most of the sport fishing in the coastal Carolinas. The book is well organized by species allowing you to find the chapter for the fish you seek. Tha only thing that I dislike about the book is that it is not water-proof so that I can safely pack it along on the boat!
