Eye opening reading
You may hate this war and our current President for getting us involved in it, but after reading this book you can only respect and honor those doing the fighting .Folsom's thoughtful leadership and concern for his men, his belief in the Marine Corps and The Mission turned my head around. The more liberal you are , the more you need to read this book.

A riveting story of life on the run.
This book describes what barely can be described. The hardships, the fear, the exhaustion, the hunger, the brutality, the uncertainty of ones fate. It's all right here, and all are apt descriptions of the life of Lt. Ramsey from the fall of Bataan until the time in 1945 that Gen MacArthur returned to liberate the Phillipines. Lt. Ramsey (who was promotoed to Lt. Colonel over the course of his ...

Must Read for Fans of Jack Aubrey and Horatio Hornblower
Many readers will come to David Cordingly's The Real Master and Commander from a desire as fans of Patrick O'Brian and C.S. Forester to learn more about the remarkable man whose life provided the raw material for the tales of Jack Aubrey and Horatio Hornblower. Make no mistake, however, Cordingly's excellent historical biography deserves to be read on its own merits. Lord Thomas Cochrane ...

Took me a while, but I found it.......
I finally found this book on my own at a local used book store and, needless to say, I was excited. This book was great. Well, the first part, "Milk Run", was a little stale, but the bulk of the story, "End Run", was masterful. There was a lot of great action and interesting characters. I liked how Kevin Tolwyn transformed from a spoiled rich brat into a mature soldier of the Confederation. ...

very insightful
Carol Bleser and Lesley Gordon did a wonderful job with this book, delving into the personal lives of several famous civil war figures, along with black and white photographs of the couples. Some of the marriages in the book include the Shermans, Grants, Lee's, Custer's , Stonewall Jacksons, and many others. With so many figures from the civil war this book gives a wonderful overview of some of the ...

Exceptional war memoir!
This is an absolutely first-rate memoir by the man who led the British fleet to victory in the Falkland Islands War. Only 50 years-old when he was chosen to lead the battle group to recapture the islands in 1982 (hard to believe this gentleman is now 73!), Admiral Sir John F. "Sandy" Woodward was courageous and competent commander. That being the case, he is also refreshingly honest and humble ...

Excellent Source of Information on Confederate Generals!
I remember first reading Generals in Gray as a teenager and have often referred back to the book over the years. Warner gives a synopsis of each general , usually containing the following information: 1. Birthplace and birthdate. 2. Pre-Civil War life. 3. Battles served in, promotions, woundings, death (if applicable). 4. Postwar career (if he survived the war). 5. Death and place burial. 6. ...

Wing Commander at its best...
When I read Fleet Action a few months ago I was relatively new to Wing Commander, having only been familiar with WCIII and WCIV and Colonel Christopher Blair. I wasn't too sure I'd like this Jason Bondarevsky guy since I was used to Blair. But I found this book to be one of the best in the series, sticking close to real military facts yet maintaining that brand of science-fiction. And there ...

Excellent!
This book starts at the beginning of the GHW Bush Administration and goes through to the very beginning of the Gulf War. It's always a little difficult to know how accurate Woodward's recountings are of conversations and inner-thoughts of the most important people, but there are rarely serious complaints about the accuracy of his books - at least as far as I am aware. For the most part, the ...

Fascinating!
This book is one of the best memoirs I have read. It is Erwin Rommel's account of the Second World War from start through finish. The best and most interesting thing about this book are Rommel's thoughts. He talks about all of his battles, and experiences throughout the war, but he weaves in personal things as well which make this a superb piece of writing. You will definately not be disappointed ...

Truly inspiring
I am distantly related to Dusty Rhodes, which is why I bought the book. However, it's not the reason I couldn't put it down - it's just an amazing story, and very well-told. I expected a dry explanation of war battles and air flights. This book is anything but dry. It is touching, funny, heart-warming and truly inspiring. It's very readable, even for someone who would normally never pick up ...

An Excellent Real World Vietnam Book
I missed the Vietnam War by a year or two. I served as an 11B from 72-78. I always wondered what it would have been like to have been there in a rifle company. Plenty of books about SF and LRRPs, but not very many written by a real platoon leader. I never had a tremensous desire to be an elite soldier in an elite unit (if I could have even made it). I only wanted to be a rifle squad leader. This ...

An easy and interesting read
This book is clearly modeled after "Duffer's Drift" and fills a gap in those texts that deal with essential material and the more interesting fiction by combining an interesting scenario with an abundance of lessons learned. Consequently, it should be considered a "must read" for law enforcement SWAT personnel, but especially entry-level and first-line supervisors. The lessons are durable, ...

Book review on new biography of General George Thomas, the Rock of Chickamauga
General George H. Thomas was a Southern born Union officer who commanded the outstanding Army of the Cumberland and he was one of the great generals of the American Civil War. In military circles he will forever be known as "The Rock of Chickamauga". However today, for a number of reasons, he is relatively unknown to the American public. Any author writing a biography of George Thomas is ...
Wolf: U-Boat Commanders in World War II

Terrific stuff, very readable.
Wolf is a departure from many of the submarine books of WWII. Rather than being a cold, dry, analysis of tonnage sunk and mission totals, it looks at the careers of a dozen U-Boat commanders as personal stories, warts and all. Starting with the illegal re-establishment of the Kriegsmarine's U-Boat fleet and particularly the early training, it progresses through the waves of new commanders who ...

Cremer, better than an Insurance Policy.
This is the way his crew referred to Peter Cremer, and for good reason. When all his contemporary U-boat commander's were going missing in the Atlantic, Cremer kept bringing his boat and his men home. This was no easy feat as the reader will clearly see upon reading this excellent and informative book. In fact many times his U-boat, its crew and himself included often bore the severe scars gained ...

Gripping and thought - provoking
This book is brilliant - both as an exciting read about the life of a great war hero and as a valuable tool for anyone studying or teaching management. Nelson's Way is well written and easy to read. Even with no previous knowledge about Nelson, you are quickly drawn into the book by the authors' enthusiasm. I loved the gripping account of the battles and Nelson's public achievements as a war ...

Excellent Behind the Scenes Account
Robert Peavey does a fantastic job of placing you right in the middle of what it was like to be plucked out of a stateside duty station, placed onto a ship, and finally dropped in the middle of the Viet Nam war combat. At times this book will have you rolling in laughter while other times you will be in tears. Tanks have not been typically associated with the Viet Nam war; however, the ...

Over the years there have been several good books written about mind control. All of these books are now out of print and impossible to find.
