Understanding Component-Based Development (Mps)11 reviews
Mary Kirtland

Microsoft Press, 1998

Good reference for 70-100 review
This book does a good job of explaining the COM standard from the ground up. The first third is devoted to COM. The rest of the book is an overview of building an enterprise application from the ground up using Microsoft technologies. I used this book as my primary reference in preparing for the new Analyzing Requirements exam (70-100) in the new MCSD track based on the recommendation of ...

The true difference between a casual programmer and a disciplined programmer is more prominent in his/her code when they start using advanced features of the framework. A true programmer knows his stuff in and out and knows how to leverage the features of the framework effectively in every line of code. And to get to that level of ...

eBay's Secrets Revealed: The Insider's Guide to Advertising, Marketing, and Promoting Your eBay Store - With ...12 reviews
Dan W. Blacharski

Atlantic Publishing Company (FL), 2007

eBay's Secrets Revealed
eBay's Secrets Revealed by Dan W. Blacharski I laughed the first time a buyer sent me postage stamps for a payment. I returned the stamps and told them I accepted money orders or payment through pay pal. She did not laugh. She wrote a negative comment about the transaction and then filed a complaint against me. The litigation lasted for months and I was frustrated and confused. For ...

New Postal Exam 473 & 473-C Computer-Based Course27 reviews
T. W. Parnell

Pathfinder Distributing Company, 2005

Great help for improved scores
I bought this for my husband, and we both agree that this author has done his homework. The tips given are designed to reduce the memory to a reasonable amount, and assist you quickly answering other portions with fewer errors. The author explains which sections are best guessed at and which you shouln't guess at since wrong answers reduce your score. The pencil information is outdated, as ...

Physically Based Rendering, Second Edition: From Theory To Implementation8 reviews
Matt Pharr, Greg Humphreys

Morgan Kaufmann, 2010

Six stars out of five
Although it is not possible here, I am fairly sure this book deserves such rating. This is truly remarkable work and is likely to become a classic text in the field of computer graphics. It is not a survey-type book, instead of trying to describe every possible method out there, the authors have concentrated on a few selected techniques, that are not only good (modern, fast, easy to ...

IT Service Management: An Introduction: Based on ITIL (Japanese Version) (Japanese Edition)9 reviews
Jan van Bon

Van Haren Publishing, 2005

Essential reading for those new to ITIL
The Office of Government Commerce's official ITIL books are great, and absolutely essential for anyone who does IT service management for a living, but the basic library will run you over $1000 in print, and the complete library on CD-ROM costs nearly $2000 (all prices in USD.) If what you need is a good, serviceable introduction to ITIL that will give you excellent preparation for passing the ...

The 2-Second Commute: Join the Exploding Ranks of Freelance Virtual Assistants71 reviews
Christine Durst, Michael Haaren

Career Press, 2005

Must-Have Resource!
This book had tons of useful information, written in a way that kept me wanting to turn the page. I will certainly keep this book for future reference -- I've dog-eared, highlighted, used post-its -- on so many useful topics.

Robot Programming : A Practical Guide to Behavior-Based Robotics11 reviews
Joe Jones, Daniel Roth

McGraw-Hill/TAB Electronics, 2003

Essential Reading for Mobile Robot Builders
I have read dozens of robotics books over the years and most of them suck. They were either too academic or too basic. This book is excellent and was a refreshing change. Written by one of the designers of iRobots Roomba, this book is indeed a practical guide to robotics. It is easy to read and full of practical advice that one would only get if they spent the last 20 something years working ...

Developing Object-Oriented Software: An Experience-Based Approach6 reviews
Ibm Object-Oriented Technology, IBM

Prentice Hall, 1996

Great book - detailed and simple
This book is simple for the beginner and covers some advanced concepts for not the beginner. Overall a must read for a serious OO programmer/designer. I recommend reading this book as a first or second book on OO design. The case study is great.

Generative Social Science: Studies in Agent-Based Computational Modeling (Princeton Studies in Complexity)5 reviews
Joshua M. Epstein

Princeton University Press, 2007

A Landmark Publication
Josh Epstein's new Opus is a landmark publication in the emerging field of multiagent-based simulation of dynamic social systems. Since Josh is not only one of this still nascent (though burgeoning) field's ablest and most creative practitioners, but also among its most thoughtful critics, the reader of has two treats in store: (1) a generous, and wide-ranging, sampling of case studies (including ...

The Online Learning Idea Book: 95 Proven Ways to Enhance Technology-Based and Blended Learning7 reviews

Pfeiffer, 2007

An Interesting Survey
This book takes an interesting approach to online learning. Rather than an author expounding on some specific learning methodology that's guaranteed to revolutionize your system and your learners, Patti Shank collects ideas from practitioners in the field including her own experiences. Most of the contributors provided more than one idea to the text, but there are still at least 30 different ...

Great practice for pmp
Great practice for exams I just passed the PMP exam and this helped me out immensely. The explanations are very good and really helped with studying. Rena M. Palloff, Keith Pratt

Jossey-Bass, 2004

Succinct and to the point
I am using this book for a course in Fostering Online Learning Communities and I love it. It is an easy read, very well organized, authoritative, and full of useful tips despite the limited research on this emerging topic. Well worth the small price.

SONET-based Metro Area Networks6 reviews
Daniel Minoli, Peter Johnson, ...

McGraw-Hill Professional, 2002

Look at previous reviews carefully...
Besause they have been written by the same person. Perhaps by friends of the authors or by the publisher (I don't want to blaim the authors because they have may good books published so far and I own most of them). On the other hand these reviews don't change the fact that this is a really good book on MANs with sonet (though it is not the MAN bible). Warmly recommended.

The In's and Out's of Online Instruction: Transitioning from Brick and Mortar to Online Teaching5 reviews
Dr Danan Myers-Wylie, Dr Jackie Mangieri, ...

Outskirts Press, 2009

Authenic and Helpful
Recently I completed a M.Ed. through online instruction and totally loved it. While not every instructor fit my expectations or needs, I feel fortunate to have had two of the authors of The Ins and Outs of Online Instruction, Myers-Wylie and Mangieri, who were exceptional instructors. I read this book because I valued their teaching style and I wanted to know what the other side of online ...

Telecommuting Success: A Practical Guide for Staying in the Loop While Working Away from the Office6 reviews
Michael J. Dziak

Park Avenue Productions, 2001

best book on telecommuting
I recently reviewed a number of books on telecommuting and distance collaboration for a research center (...) and Dziak's book was the best I found on telecommuting. While some other books dwell too much on details of home office setup (which this book does cover thoroughly in ch 4) Dziak is by far the most insightful about the real challenges of telecommuting, which are social issues of staying ...

Computer-based Instruction: Methods and Development5 reviews
Stephen M. Alessi, Stanley R. Trollip

Longman Higher Education, 1984

This is a MUST for CBT and WBT developers
This book should be on the shelf of very instructional designer and course developer responsible for creating computer-based training or web-based training. The book stands out for three important reasons: (1) if offers concrete directions regarding how to develop instruction at the lesson level; (2) the recommendations are based on research findings and when research findings are ...
