Environmental Issues: Taking Sides - Clashing Views on Environmental Issues (Taking Sides: Clashing Views on ...2 reviews
Thomas A Easton

McGraw-Hill/Dushkin, 2008

Taking Sides
The book absolutely delves into the rights and wrongs, goods and bads, of global warming and environmental catastrophes. It gives the reader a chance to see two different points of view on each environmental issue current in the world today.

Other authors have better information
This book has condense information about different topics. However, I bought this book because I need information regarding immmigration. I found that Borjas is more appropiate and more knowdlefull about the issue.Heaven's Door: Immigration Policy and the American Economy.

Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Controversial Issues in Special Education (Taking Sides: Special Education)2 reviews
MaryAnn Byrnes

McGraw-Hill/Dushkin, 2004

Nice overview of current issues in special education
As a special education administrator and a doctoral student in special education I appreciate the opportunity to look at issues from different perspectives. I am familiar with many of the authors included in the book and thought that the editor did a very good job in choosing people to contribute. All-in-all, a nice, concise overview of current issues that all special educators should be aware of.

Vaccine: The Controversial Story of Medicine's Greatest Lifesaver22 reviews
Arthur Allen

W. W. Norton, 2008

Solid Contribution to the History of Medicine in the Western World
I thoroughly enjoyed Arthur Allen's book "Vaccine: The Controversial Story of Medicine's Greatest Lifesaver" (2007). The concept of vaccination is unique because, unlike asthma sprays, insulin shots, or liquid penicillin, vaccines prevent rather than battle disease. Allen highlights that during the first 200 years of vaccination's history, it could only stop smallpox, which was finally eradicated ...

Taking Sides: Clashing Views in Business Ethics and Society (Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Controversial ...2 reviews
Lisa H Newton, Maureen M Ford

McGraw-Hill/Dushkin, 2007

You don't have to read it
This book covers 19 controversial issues. First the authors bring an issue, give some comments and give two articles that discuss the issue, but are contraversial to each other. The reason why this book cannot get more than three stars is that the choise of articles wasn't really successful. Sometimes some of the articles seem not to make sence at all. Some of them don't answer any ...

Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Controversial Issues in Food and Nutrition (Taking Sides)1 review
Marion Nestle, L. Beth Dixon

McGraw-Hill/Dushkin, 2003

Taking Sides
This is a very basic book that can be used for many classes. I am using it for debates in an advanced human nutrition course, and it is great! The only two drawbacks are that it does not give references for the arguments, and that it is somewhat out of date on some issues (like the food guide pyramid which was recently updated in 2005 after publication). It has stirred up great discussions and ...

More than one side to an argument
Current educational significant issues for 2007 are listed within this book including such issues as social experience, standardizing curriculum, producing good citizens, charter schools, bilingual education, school violence, homework, and merit pay. Two major sides are looked at for each issue listed, and one of the issues, redefining of "public school" in question, lists 4 people on the "no" ...

McGraw-Hill/Dushkin, 2007

Essential Critical Thinking in Psychology
McGraw Hill has a whole series of paperbacks like this, "Taking Sides: Clashing Views on X," where X is Psychology, the law, the environment, you name it. Search Amazon on the first two words of the title. I use the psychology one in my college level course in Critical Thinking but it is so effective I may also assign it to seniors writing their final thesis. Each of 18 chapters presents two ...

The Last 100 Days: The Tumultuous and Controversial Story of the Final Days of World War II in Europe (Modern ...12 reviews
John Toland

Modern Library, 2003

Excellent Book by Excellent Writer
The Last 100 Days is a monumental historical work. In it the author pieces together the story of the fall of the Third Reich at the end of the Second World War in Europe. Although the book is generally described as a work of "popular history" it is more than that. It is in fact a work of history that has itself now become a part of the history of World War II. (Too many authors to count ...

Controversial Therapies for Development: Fads, Fashion, and Science in Professional Practice7 reviews

Lawrence Erlbaum, 2004

A Must Read for All Behavior Analysts
Controversial Therapies exposes the ugly, inconvenient truth about sensory integration, auditory integration training, facilitated communication, positive behavior support, and a host of other fads and bogus treatments. Jacobson, Foxx, and Mulick have complied a set of chapters, and written many themselves, that provides all the ammunition that anyone needs to shoot down these wasteful and ...

World Politics, Expanded: Taking Sides - Clashing Views in World Politics, Expanded (Taking Sides: Clashing ...1 review
John T. Rourke

McGraw-Hill/Dushkin, 2008

no straw dummies
The timely nature of the book's topics is one of its strengths. The book just came out, and its many of its topics can be seen in the daily newspapers. Consider one issue - are continued US sanctions on Cuba justified? The pro and con are briefly covered, but quite succinctly. Another topic asks whether membership in the World Trade Organisation is beneficial. The book's debate format helps ...
