Going Solo in the Kitchen24 reviews
Jane Doerfer

Knopf, 1998

Thank you!!
All of the positive reviews are exactly right. This cookbook is fantastic: easy recipes, easy to find ingredients, food that tastes good, and excellent suggestions for how to put together a meal, use leftovers, store food, reduce waste. I love it and just wanted to thank Jane Doerfer for her ideas. I now look forward to cooking for myself and trying out new ideas.

C is for Cooking: Recipes from the Street11 reviews
Susan, M.S., R.D. McQuillan, Sesame Workshop

Wiley, 2007

Great for Picky Eaters
Thank you, Sesame Street! My picky 2 year old ate squash! My daughter loves flipping through this book and asking to make things. She usually turns her nose at any new food, but she is willing to try new things because her favorite characters taught us how to make them.

Cooking Basics for Dummies (For Dummies (Cooking))18 reviews
Bryan Miller, Marie Rama

For Dummies, 2004

Learn how to cook with 'Dummies'..
For someone that isn't that experienced in the kitchen, Cooking for Dummies is amazing. For the simple recipe to make scrambled eggs most cookbooks have gourmet recipes. When I looked in Cooking for Dummies I found out how to make scrambled eggs without the pretty stuff. It does a great job explaining what you need and how to prepare your meal. Cooking for Dummies has made me become less afraid ...

Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone175 reviews
Deborah Madison

Broadway, 2007

Great book.....Clarifying some of the negative reviews
Since this is a classic you will find all kinds of great reviews. I have no loyalty to Deborah Madison. But I do think this is a wonderful book and some of the negatives are just strange or wrong. If you are considering this purchase, take it out of the library or look at it in a store. This is really worth having on the shelf and for many reasons. A One star reviewer says that on page ...

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Cooking--for Guys (Complete Idiot's Guide to)5 reviews
Tod Dimmick

Alpha, 2004

Kitchen Secrets for Guys
I have two recipes for making waffles, my own and Tod Dimmick's recipe. Guess which my husband prefers? Yes, he says he likes the texture of the waffles in this cookbook. I like my waffles very crispy and I found that you can make the waffles that way by cooking them a bit longer or by putting them in the toaster. Tod Dimmick used to avoid the kitchen, but he is currently turning out ...

Greek Cooking for the Gods (101 Productions)14 reviews
Eva Zane

Cole Group, 1992

No OTHER Cookbook like this one !!!
I bought my first copy of this book when I was 15 years old. My mother was an exceptional greek cook, and I always thought this cookbook was the closest thing to my mom's authentic greek cuisine. (In fact some of the recipes are better) When I was first married, I used the book and it eventually fell apart. I searched and found another copy. The same thing happened to the second one. I'm ...

Cooking for Two: 120 Recipes for Every Day and Those Special Nights22 reviews
Bruce Weinstein, Mark Scarbrough

William Morrow Cookbooks, 2004

Great addition to my cookbook library!
I bought this book for me and my boyfriend to use... and we do so religously. We make a recipe from this book about once per week and are always delighted with the results. The recipes are easy to follow and if ingredients are difficult to find in your local grocery, substitute ingredient suggestions are made. We now have a few favorites we have added to our repertoire! I also purchased a copy ...

Pressure Cooking for Everyone15 reviews
Rick Rodgers, Arlene Ward

Chronicle Books, 2000

Great Recipes!!!
I looked at almost every book on the market for pressure cookers and this was one of the books I chose. I liked the variety of the recipes, the pictures which alot do not have and the information was helpful if you are new to pressure cooking. I found it to be very thorough and covered a wide range of dishes...meat, poultry, desserts and even just vegetable and bean dishes if you are not into ...

Healthy Cooking for Two (or Just You): Low-Fat Recipes with Half the Fuss and Double the Taste63 reviews
Frances Price

Rodale Books, 1997

Best cookbook I own!
I bought this cookbook several years ago based on someone's recommendation, and consider it one of my best purchases ever. The recipes are simple to prepare, delicious and healthy. I have not been disappointed in a single recipe. I was a little turned off at first because there were no photos of the prepared foods, but after months and months of use, I can honestly say that I use this cookbook ...

Cooking for One (Quick & Easy (Silverback))3 reviews
Christina Kempe

Silverback Books, 2006

Small, but packed with good stuff ...
At only 64 pages, this is not a large book. But if you're looking for creative recipes that serve one, this might be the right choice for you. A few pages are devoted to kitchen basics, but they're clearly targeted to the challenges of cooking for one person. Shopping and storage tips, basic tools and equipment -- these can be a little different when you're not cooking for a family. The ...

Ayurvedic Cooking for Westerners5 reviews
Amadea Morningstar

Lotus Press, 1995

An excellent resource
This is a super book for people interested in Ayurveda who think this health system can be followed using only Indian foods. Morningstar prooves this myth wrong. Her recipes are familiar and are coupled with a wealth of interesting and useful information. I'm glad I have this book on my shelf.

Cooking for the Week : Leisurely Weekend Cooking for Easy WeekDAY Meals12 reviews
Diane Morgan, Kathleen and Dan Taggart

Chronicle Books, 1999

Easy, Delicious and Nutritious
This is a great cookbook for busy people who like to eat delicious, healthy, creative meals. The recipes are easy to follow, with short ingredient lists. The preparation is simple but elegant. And the main idea behind this book, that you can "cook big" on the weekend and still not be doomed to eat exactly the same thing as leftovers for the rest of the week, is a lifesaver for me. The pictures ...

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Cooking for Two (Complete Idiot's Guide to)2 reviews
Ellen Brown

Alpha, 2007

Delicious! But stock up the liquor cabinet...
It's hard to plan meals if you're not a family of four. When I want to try something new I'm always stuck eating it for the rest of the week, whether it's good or not. Since it's just the two of us I made the decision to invest in a cookbook designed for two. What better way to start than with a "Complete Idiot's Guide"? What a nice surprise to find out that even idiots can eat well. This ...

Lowfat Cooking for Dummies3 reviews
Lynn Fischer, W. Virgil Brown

For Dummies, 1997

Very good resource
This is a very good source of information on low fat cooking. My family responded pleasently to many of the recipies although some were a little bland. The important thing is that this book teaches you how to make your own low fat dishes by substituting the stuff with high fat content in your favorite recipies with low fat ingredients. I especially liked the section devoted to learning and ...

Cooking for Madam: Recipes and Reminiscences from the Home of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis28 reviews
Marta Sgubin

Scribner, 1998

Great recipes & a rare glimpse into private family
Marta was with Jackie and the children for more than 20 years (I believe she is now working for Caroline and her family). Her recipes are very fresh, healthy, and sophisticated. Yet they are relatively simple and straightforward. The memories she shares with us, along with family photographs, provide a glimpse into the life of this very private family, and show happy times, like birthday parties ...

Answer to a Mom's Prayer
I was delighted to read about this cookbook in my local newspaper and ran out to buy a copy right away. My eleven year old daughter was recently diagnosed with diabetes, so this book about nutrition/healthy cooking is an answer to my prayers. In addition to the fun and great-tasting recipes with complete nutrition information, there are clear explanations about the type 1 and type 2 diabetes ...

Cooking for Mr. Latte: A Food Lover's Courtship, with Recipes80 reviews
Amanda Hesser

W. W. Norton & Company, 2004

One of my favorite cookbooks
I bought this book three years ago and I never get tired of reading it. I have cooked several of the recipes and have rarely been disappointed. Most of them actually turned out great, like the chocolate dump-it cake, the vanilla beans loaves or the salmon and lentils dinner. This really is one of my favorite cookbooks.
