In Search of Small Gods Jim Harrison
Copper Canyon Press, 2009
"Jim Harrison has probed the breadth of human appetites-for food and drink, for art, for sex, for violence and, most significantly, for the great twin engines of love and death. Perhaps no American writer better appreciates those myriad drives; since the publication of his first collection of poetry . . . Harrison has become their poet laureate."-Salon.com In Jim Harrison's new book of poems, birds and humans converse, biographies are fluid, ...

The Copper Scroll (Political Thrillers Series #4) 101 reviews Joel C. Rosenberg
Tyndale House Publishers, 2007
Exciting book for our day and age. Joel Rosenberg is my kind of writer. I love political intrigue and he seems to be an expert in this genre. He certainly understands the mindset of the middle Eastern terrorist and the events he writes about have an uncanny way of actually happening later on. Scary at times!

The Shadow of Sirius W.S. Merwin
Copper Canyon Press, 2008
"Merwin is one of the great poets of our age."- Los Angeles Times Book Review "The intentions of Merwin's poetry are as broad as the biosphere yet as intimate as a whisper."- The Atlantic The nuanced mysteries of light, darkness, presence, and memory are central themes in W.S. Merwin's new book of poems. "I have only what I remember," Merwin admits, and his memories are focused and profound-the distinct qualities of autumn light, a ...

Saving Daylight 2 reviews Jim Harrison
Copper Canyon Press, 2007
Inspiring and Transcendent I read this in three sittings over 2 days and I have to say it is the best poetry I have read in a long time. Subtle hints of Whitman and Neruda are folded into an American West verbage that sweeps you away to wherever Jim was when he wrote. I am rereading it now and I think I may eventually test the physical longevity of this hardback.

Resolution 40 reviews Robert B. Parker
Putnam Adult, 2008
Please let there be a film adaptation of Resolution! After having read Appaloosa and then seeing the movie version of it with Ed Harris as Virgil Cole and Viggo Mortensen as Everett Hitch, I found myself visualizing those two great actors when reading Robert B. Parker's newest western novel, Resolution. Harris and Mortensen captured the two lead characters perfectly, bringing them to life in ways that are still clearly etched in my mind; and, like ...

Barr Flies: How to Tie and Fish the Copper John, the Barr Emerger, and Dozens of Other Patterns, Variations, ... 14 reviews John Barr
Stackpole Books, 2007
Best Seller It is hard to imagine that anyone pursuing trout on flies could have walked into a fly shop in the past five years and not have walked out with one of John Barr's flies. Even harder to imagine is that this same angler has never heard of a Copper John or a Barr Emerger. Walking into several fly shops in the past four months around the country, I can attest not only to the popularity of his ...

Copper River: A Cork O'Connor Mystery (Cork O'Connor Mysteries) 18 reviews William Kent Krueger
Pocket Star, 2007
Excellent book William Kent Krueger is one of my favorite authors and I was not disapointed in this book. It is however, a sequel to Mercy Falls (his previous) so I would recommend you read it first so you are aware of the history. They are both stand alone books though so it is an enjoyable read none the less. Good suspense with a double twist at the end.

Human Dark with Sugar 1 review Brenda Shaughnessy
Copper Canyon Press, 2008
Darkness With a Pinch of Sugar Sweetness Human Dark with Sugar by Brenda Shaughnessy arrived in the mail from the American Academy of Poets and I was pleased because I haven't read a book of poetry in some time. I think that it is only fair that I review this book on this, the last day of National Poetry Month. This second book of poetry from Shaughnessy won the James Laughlin Award.
The first section of the book is Anodyne, also ...

The Collected Songs of Cold Mountain 16 reviews Cold Mountain (Han Shan)
Copper Canyon Press, 2000
Moon over sea / Wave against rock Cold Moutain chuckles still
as he reads through my eyes
those poems that he carved in stone.
Appropriate now
as they were back then,
his laughter knows no bounds.
No center, no boundaries,
all opposites dissolve.
Suchness beyond "as one".
Moon over sea,
Wave against rock.
All returns instantly!

FORTY YEARS A SPECULATOR 10 reviews FRED CARACH
Lulu.com, 2007
Excellent contrarian investment book! In his book Forty Years A Speculator, Fred Carach does an excellent job of convincing the reader that the big blue-chip companies are NOT the way to invest; rather, other stocks are worthy of your dollars because of their income potential, or the fact that they are good penny stocks or inexpensive enough that you can double your money, perhaps many times over. Fred's humorous tone is very ...

Migration: New & Selected Poems 3 reviews W.S. Merwin
Copper Canyon Press, 2007
W.S. Merwin: A Poet of Vision and Connection At last there is a significantly large volume of the majestic poetry of W.S. Merwin. Not that all of his other volumes of poems published through the years by Copper Canyon Press have been minor: the length of the books does not begin to mimic the towering power of his work.
But here in MIGRATION: NEW & SELECTED POEMS we have enough of his life's work to truly appreciated the fact that he is ...

Delights & Shadows 26 reviews Ted Kooser
Copper Canyon Press, 2004
The clear speaking clear thinking poet This is clear- speaking clear- thinking poetry. Kooser advocates communication in poetry. He advocates thinking about the needs of the reader. He has said that as poetry is not so important for most people he tends to write short poems that they can take in in a relatively small period of time. He is the opposite of the outrageous, self- important demanding Dylan Thomas-like poet, or the exuberant ...

Ice Mummy (Step-Into-Reading, Step 4) 9 reviews Cathy East Dubowski, Mark Dubowski

The Mummy Returns (not the movie) I Think the 5,000 year old Mummy is very good discovery. I never knew that there could be a Mummy in the alps or any other extremely cold moutain area. (I was just plain dumb about that).
I Think that this book about the Ice Mummy is very good to learn
about. (Besides King Tutankahamun). The Mummy, i realized can be almost anywhere, but not the USA. You can learn from this
discovery, many of ...
