Art Constitution: The Illustrated Constitution of the Russian Federation1 review
Sergey Denisov, Ivan Kolesnikov, ...

Moscow: Alpha-Press, 2003, co-published by the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Kolodzei Art Foundation, Inc. (in Russian and English)., 2003

Irony Evidences Democracy
Paradoxically, the first constitution in Russia appeared in 1918, soon after the violent and anti-democratic Bolshevik revolution. Previous attempts at establishing a constitutional democracy include the 1825 Decembrists' revolt, the Manifest of 1905 which granted to the population basic civil rights, and the Fundamental Laws of the State of 1906. In 1924, after the formation of the Soviet Union, ...

Lost Waterfront: The Decline and Rebirth of Manhattan's Western Shore1 review

Copublished with Friends of Hudson River Park, 2008

Highly recommended and ultimately inspirational reading
Mere verbal accounts simply do not hold the impact of photographs in visualizing the changes that time wroughts upon the creations of men. "Lost Waterfront: The Decline And Rebirth Of Manhattan's Western Shore" is an 80-page catalog of full-color photographs taken by Shelley Seccombe between 1972 and 1982 that showcase what a decade has seen transpire among the buildings and shorelines of ...

The Battle of Hampton Roads: New Perspectives on the USS Monitor And the CSS Virginia (Mariner's Museum)2 reviews
Harold Holzer, Tim Mulligan

Fordham University Press, Copublished with The Mariners? Museum, 2006

An Excellent Series of Scholarly Papers
I suspect that anyone with even a modest interest in American history has heard of the battle of Hampton Roads between the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia (ex-Merrimac). The battle essentially ended in a tie with the two ships injured but still functional. This book is the report on a symposium held at the Mariners Museum in nearby Newport News. Fittingly it was held on March 5, 2003, the ...

Atlas of Allergic Diseases: Copublished with Current Medicine1 review
Phillip L Lieberman, Michael S Blaiss

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2002

Excellent first study... and you'll come back to it again and again...
I'm a fellow in allergy/immunology, and I initially found it quite difficult to dive into all the different nooks and crannies of our specialty. It's very easy to get lost in all of it. As a visual learner and "big picture" kind of guy, I struggled drinking from the proverbial fire hose reading Middleton's and Janeway/Abbas... why wasn't this stuff sinking in? So naturally I did what any ...

Australia's Lost World: Prehistoric Animals of Riversleigh1 review
Michael Archer, Suzanne J. Hand, ...

Indiana University Press, 2001

'Downunder' fossil extravaganza.
Riversleigh is a major World Heritage listed fossil site, primarily discovered in the late 1970s in Queensland, Australia. Since the first discoveries an abundance of prehistoric Australian fauna dating from 25 million years ago to the present has been recovered, preserved in limestone sediments and ancient caves, which testify to a formerly lush rainforest climate prevalent as Australia drifted ...

What Workers Want (Copublished With Russell Sage Foundation)1 review
Richard B. Freeman, Joel Rogers

ILR Press, 2006

What Workers Want
Finally a book that ask's workers what they want, rather than some pontification of a organizational theory or anecdotal information by a Ivory Tower Guru. The authors used a multi-part survey that ask workers about what they wanted - participation in the organizations is what the workers seeked. Workers voiced their opinion in that they believe that greater participation in their jobs and ...

Applied Multivariate Statistics With SAS Software2 reviews
Ravindra Khattree, Dayanand N. Naik

SAS Press/ John Wiley and Sons (Copublished), 2000

Very Nice Introduction to Multivariate Analysis using SAS
The authors gave a short tutorial on the book at the Deming conference last year. I enjoyed the presentation and the book which is not expensive was discounted. I met both authors. They are experts in multivariate analysis having studied under C. R. Rao at Pittsburgh. The book provides lots of SAS code and does a good job of explaining how to set-up the analysis in SAS which would not be ...

A Good Visit
The Lincoln Forum provides a continuing service to those of us with a fascination for the life and times of Abraham Lincoln. Mahler: A Musical Physiognomy (Co-Published With Faber and Faber)3 reviews
Theodor W. Adorno

University Of Chicago Press, 1992

provocative and stimulating analysis of Mahler's music
The subject of this classic of musical analysis is the complicated phenomenon of Mahler's music and our response to it. The treatment is philosophical/psychological/analytic and the abstractness and complexity of the prose is typical of what one would find in a doctoral thesis, except that it is beautifully written (and Jephcott's translation is itself a work of art). To introduce the ...

Step by Step: Injection Techniques in Orthopaedics: Co-Published by Jaypee Brothers and Lippincott Williams & ...1 review
John Ebnezar

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2007

Good book, worhtless CD
Bought the book couple a weeks ago. The book itself is quite informative covering almost all the major areas of injections, explaining the alternative paths etc. but the CD that came with it is worthless containing only the same pictures (tiny in size) that were in the book, no added value. Some grammar mistakes also caught my eye.

One chapter each is devoted to the Timucua, Guale, Apalachee, Chickasaws, Caddos, Natchez, Quapaw, Cherokee, Upper Creeks, Lower Creeks, and Seminole.
