The Sloppy Copy Slipup 7 reviews Dyanne Disalvo
Holiday House, 2008
An "outstanding" book Characters in The Sloppy Copy Slipup remind me of the kids from my own fifth grade class. Watching Big Hig's multi-stepped logic as he explains about the homework assignment is entertaining becuase it's so familiar. Even the teacher's sentences and mannerisms accurately reflect teachers I have met along the way. Hilarious recognizable moments whether in school or at home with Brian Higman. What a ...

The Copy Workshop Workbook 2002 7 reviews Bruce Bendinger
Copy Workshop, 2002
The Copy Workshop is Outstanding, A "Must Have" Gold Mine For Any Copywriter Truly one of the best resources on direct response copywriting I have ever come across. Those familiar with Joe Sugarman's "Advertising Secrets of The Written Word" will devour this book too, presented in similar style with excellent visual examples of the concepts taught. One of the few "must have" copywriting books to add to your collection.

The Everything Guide To Writing Copy: From Ads and Press Release to On-Air and Online Promos--All You Need to ... 7 reviews Steve Slaunwhite
Adams Media, 2007
An excellent reference book for any writer I have a few books on copywriting that I refer to repeatedly: Bob Bly's The Elements of Copywriting, John Caples' Tested Advertising Methods, and David Ogilvy's Ogilvy on Advertising. These are books I'll never resell on Amazon. One, because they're that good and two, because they're filled with underlinings, notes, and dog-eared pages.
Steve Slaunwhite's new book, The Everything Guide to ...

Advertising: Concept and Copy, Second Edition 8 reviews George Felton
W. W. Norton, 2006
You're not really an "ad guy" until you read this! I read this book 4 years ago and still refer to it when I'm in a slump or just want to generate new ideas. I would suggest this to anyone in the advertising business or anyone interested in learning how to concept. It really gives a fresh and new perspection on how to look at a product, and then how to write about it. It's simple, funny and keeps you wanting to read more. I know a lot of George's ...

Web Copy That Sells: The Revolutionary Formula for Creating Killer Copy Every Time 62 reviews Maria Veloso
AMACOM, 2004
Web Copy That Sells Not all websites are created equally. The majority of websites are rather boring: a little text and perhaps a few graphics. Other sites try to grab the readers' attention with a lot of colorful graphics and a lot of fancy ad-speak.
When it comes to promoting business success, neither type of website will be very useful. The rather plain site will be virtually ignored. Most readers won't even ...

You're Born an Original, Don't Die a Copy 5 reviews John Mason
Insight Publishing Group, 1993
eye opening I was going through a terrible time in my life when a friend handed this book to me - I read it over and over - it was my source for reassurance everytime I questioned my decisions. I have given this book to several people that I thought needed the same help - it was amazing how such small thoughts could have such a dramatic effect on someone

The Copy Workshop Workbook 5 reviews Bruce Bendinger
Copy Workshop, 1993
This book can improve your writing... For many years, this has been the #1 college textbook for communications majors. It imparts the principles needed for one of the most harrowing jobs in the world of business -- writing the copy for ads and commercials. (But as a matter of fact, most of the principles of copy writing are also the principles of good writing in general, so you don't have to be an ad man to benefit.) The author ...

Writing Copy for Dummies 17 reviews Jonathan Kranz
For Dummies, 2004
Complete, practical, engaging guide I've been a copywriter for 14 years, most of the time as a freelancer. I've also been a senior copywriter for an advertising agency and worked in the creative department for a major newspaper.
This is the first book on copywriting I've bought in several years, and I'm now the newest fan of Jonathan Kranz's "Writing Copy for Dummies." Mr. Kranz has written an excellent book for the novice or ...

Copy This!: Lessons from a Hyperactive Dyslexic who Turned a Bright Idea Into One of America's Best Companies 23 reviews Paul Orfalea, Ann Marsh
Workman Publishing Company, 2007
He's an excellent reader (of people, that is) Orfalea opened his first copy shop while still a student in college. Over the next 30 years, he built the world's premier copyshop business, then cashed out for $1.5 billion. Not a bad run, especially for a kid who was so dyslexic that he was virtually illiterate.
He says he got the idea for the business while working on a term paper with a team of fellow college students. He was unable to ...

Prentice Hall, 1984
Exceptionally well-explained copywriting training Mr Lewis has again written a classic - this book, especially starting with Ch 4 "How to Be a First-Rank Wordsmith", reveals the craft of writing compelling copy with remarkable clarity.
I underestimated this book at first; wish I'd read it a couple of years ago ... along w/Schwartz' "Breakthrough Advertising" and Lewis' other copywriting books, this is an absolute must-get. It really does dig ...

How to Read Copy: Professionals Guide to Delivering Voice-Overs and Broadcast Commercials 4 reviews Adrian Cronauer
Bonus Books, 1990
Get the Basics First I have made my living as a voice actor for almost 15 years and, in that time, earned over a million and a half dollars. Anyone wanting to do the same should read this book. There is new paradigm today for voiceovers that involves finding the human emotion in a script and conveying that emotion to the listener. That's why voiceover people are actors not announcers. But Adrian Cronauer's book ...

Copy Editing for Professionals 12 reviews Edmund J. Rooney, Oliver R. Witte
Stipes Pub Llc, 2000
I envy the two authors This combination textbook/workbook is one of those projects that makes me wish I had done it. Or that one as good as this was available when I was teaching. It is broken down into three areas: copy reading, headline writing and publication layout. This is for any kind of publication, but the major focus is on newspapers. A major factor in the book's appeal is the writing style: It makes copy ...

Catalog Copy That Sizzles 2 reviews H G Lewis
McGraw-Hill, 1999
A copywriter's resource that really sizzles! Very helpful! Typical of many books written by veteran admen, the text is broken up into bite-sized chunks with snappy headlines, but in this case the format serves the message well. Lewis' tone is chatty and informative, there are lots of good ad examples, and best of all, each chapter begins with a brief writing assignment. I found it a valuable resource.

How to Write Great Copy: Learn the Unwritten Rules of Copywriting 3 reviews Dominic Gettins
Kogan Page, 2006
A stellar book for the ad agency copywriter This is a book for the ad agency copywriter. I say that because so much copywriting literature is really about direct response advertising. In his fast-reading book, British creative director Dominic Gettins prefaces it with his own definition of the copywriter's work:
"What we really do is conceptualize. We take the base commercial desires of our clients and fashion them into ideas that ...

You won't find a better book than this. This book covers so many varieties of imitation types that you can't go wrong in reading it. It is particularly useful if you are interested in the imitation aspect involved in some subject, such as camouflage or doppelgangers, that won't have this idea covered well enough under its own title. The book is a cultural/ historical chronicle with enough research done by the author to make it stand ...
