Curriculum Integration: Designing the Core of Democratic Education1 review
James A. Beane

Teachers College Press, 1997

A key point of departure
This book serves as node in a network to other research and curriculum related research and activity. I found Beane's references to other influential works extremely helpful. In particular I enjoyed following the historical roots of curriculum integration that he delineates in this book. While it took some time to find the works of L. Thomas Hopkins, I am finding them extremely informative, ...

Core Curriculum for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (Core Curriculum for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing ...7 reviews
AWOHNN, NANN

Saunders, 2004

a must have for any neonatal nurse
The core curriculum is a must have for any neonatal nurse. It's the "bible" of neonatal nursing guidelines. An excellent reference to have each day you work. Easy to read and follow along. Good pictures. I traveled to another country to teach nurses how to care for premature babies, and this was the first book to get packed into my suitcase!

Core Curriculum for Oncology Nursing (Core Curriculum Series)6 reviews
Joanne Itano, Karen N. Taoka

Saunders, 2005

Excellent Oncology Certification study book
I used this book, and the Study Guide for The Core Curriculum for Oncology Nursing textbook, as well as the OCN 3 exam booklets from ONS, and did really well on the OCN Exam that I took in Washington D.C., April 17, 2002. This book helped me so much on being able to pass that test. It is set up exactly like the OCN Test Blueprint. I would study and work my way through each chapter and then test ...

Emergency Nursing Core Curriculum (Emergency Nursing Core Curriculum (Jordan))12 reviews
ENA

Saunders, 2007

Core content for Emergency Nurses
I would consider this the "Bible" of Emergency Nursing. It is respectable in that it is written and published by the ENA (Emergency Nurses Association). It has DOZENS of contributing authors from many different clinical/specialty backgrounds of Emergency Nursing. This book looks at the "core" knowledge base of Emergency Nurses and puts it in one place. While it's not a "casual" read, it is ...

Core Curriculum for Maternal-Newborn Nursing (Core Curriculum for Maternal-Newborn Nursing (AWHONN))5 reviews
AWHONN, Susan Mattson, ...

Saunders, 2004

Great Resource
The new edition of the AWHONN Core Curriculum for Maternal Newborn Nursing is excellent. It allows the staff on the units to have the latest information on clinical practice, guidelines for care, and patient education. The only thing more would be to have an appendix of common OB/Newborn procedures and protocols/guidelines and much of the annual hospital activities revolving around the ...

Core Curriculum for Pediatric Critical Care Nursing1 review
American Association of Critical-Care Nurses

Saunders, 2006

Best Book for serious Pediatric ICU Nurses
I was lucky to get this book at a used-and-reduced price; however, that doesn't change the fact that the book is outstanding in it's content. I own Hazinski's pediatric ICU "bible", but this book is SO much more detailed. If you want to learn peds cardiology...REALLY learn not only the congenital malformations but the surgery for each malformation with detailed diagrams in a step-by-step process, ...

Study Guide for the Core Curriculum for Oncology Nursing4 reviews
Oncology Nursing Society, Suzanne Mahon

Saunders, 2005

Great basis for study for the OCN exam...
I recently took the OCN exam. I started out trying to read the huge core curriculum book....impossible! For one thing, it is in outline form. Forget it! What worked for me was using this book to find areas I needed to learn more about. I went through the entire book circling the answers I got wrong, studied weak areas using other sources, then back another time to see if I could get the answers ...

The Core Curriculum for Lactation Consultant Practice3 reviews
International Lactation Consultant Association

Jones & Bartlett Publishers, 2007

Wow!
Once you have some basics under your belt, this book is the next step. This book covers all of the material you already know while also checking your information for any holes. Simply reading this book through will give you an excellent foundation to work from - and that is a manageable task given how well it is written.

Study Guide to Core Curriculum for Critical Care Nursing1 review
Maurene A. Harvey

Saunders, 2000

Buy Used
This book has one very positive aspect: the study cards in the back. There are 32 pages with two cards on each page. They are cardboard and perforated to tear out and carry with you. Good information on them. The rest of the book, however is very basic. Too much wasted space. Each chapter on a body system starts with section-related tips for studying for the CCRN followed by a few pages of ...

Students Guide To Core Curriculum: Core Curriculum Guide (Guides To Major Disciplines)6 reviews
Mark C. Henrie

Intercollegiate Studies Institute, 2000

a quick, worthwhile read
At the recommendation of a professor with whom I was mentoring a group of first-year students, I read this book as a senior beginning my last semester at a liberal arts college where I'd had a great deal of freedom in choosing my gen. ed./ core curriculum. I only wish I'd read it my freshman year, when I was beginning my pursuit of a liberal education that ended up being very haphazard with the ...
