A Rumor of War105 reviews
Philip Caputo

Ballantine Books, 1994

Viet nam account
Caputo's account as a combat officer is the best book on direct experience in Nam. It ranks up there with Normen Mailer's The Naked and fhe Dead and Audie Murphy's WW2 account of his combat experience in To Hell and Back superbley written--gripping. Maurice

With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa200 reviews
E.B. Sledge

Presidio Press, 2007

The best on WW2 overall.
There are so many reasons to pan a book like this, writting, viewpoint, historical accuracy, but this book gets 5 stars in all catagories. So true, so full of action, so sad, so much to say. My true interest lies on the Eastern Front between Germany and Russia, but this was so good it is my favorite of WW2 in spite of the subject matter. Wow.

Out of the Darkness36 reviews
Eric A. Shelman, Stephan Lazoritz

Publishers Circulation Corp., 1998

A must read for all Human Service Workers
The authors of this book have created a wonderful window of understanding how child abuse/neglect has evolved over the years. This book should be required reading for anyone interested in the human service field. Through the heart-felt story of Mary Ellen, we can see why there is such a strong need to protect children and continue to evolve for many more years. Thank you to Shelman & Lazoritz ...

I've bought 8 of these over 20 years
I bought this for my daughter and later I bought it for friends' children. I'll probably search for it for my grandchildren too. You can probably guess that I like it! Buying for kids is such fun because you get the wow factor, and then you get to see whether they really take to it by reading/playing with it. Kids don't fib about this stuff, do they! I can report 100% success. The enthusiam they ...

Charlie Battery: A Marine Artillery Unit in Iraq (Hellgate Memories Series) (Hellgate Memories Series) ...36 reviews
Andrew J. Lubin

L&R Publishing, 2004

Nice dual perspective
This is a great read from the beginning to the end. I especially enjoyed the perspectives from both the Marines abroad as well as the family and friends back home. It was a nice touch adding the messages sent home. Great detailed account of the preparation and deployment of this fine Marine unit. This is a must read for anyone who wants to know what happens during wartime and the courage ...

Enchantress from the Stars (Unabridged)36 reviews
Sylvia Engdahl

What a classic
This is a re-read from my youth and I am glad that it has been reissued. I love all of Engdahl's work and I only wish that she would write more after her long dry period. A well-writte intelligent and charming female protagonist learns and grows within a setting much like early (good) Andre Norton- reminiscent of Ice Crown, in fact.

Small Miracles: Extraordinary Coincidences from Everyday Life39 reviews
Yitta Halberstam, Judith Leventhal, ...

Adams Media Corp, 1997

enjoyable, heartwarming, universal, read a story every night
I found this unique book of coincidences to be remarkable. While the authors relate it to Jewish principles, giving a moral or rule at the end of each 'episode,' their statements are applicable to those of all faiths. There were short, short stories, short stories and those a few pages long. But all showed the positive human spirit that exists in everyone of us if we give ourselves a chance and ...

The Ascent of Man31 reviews
J. Bronowski

BRITISH BROADCASTING CORP, 1976

Inspired many copiers but is still the best...
Previous reviews don't do Bronowski justice. He began as a mathematician; but after being sent to Hiroshima, as part of a team studying the aftereffects of the nuclear blast, he switched to biology. He was warm and articulate. A poet himself, he was one of the few people who truly understood the English poet William Blake, although (unlike most of his writing) his essays about Blake could use ...

Robert Collier

The Secret of the Ages, Is the Secret!
When I first started to study to Law of Attraction, when I was a sales rep for Bob Proctor, The Secret of the Ages, by Robert Collier was a book that Proctor quoted often. I was sure to pick it up, since I wanted to learn more! Collier talks about the Law of Supply, which is like the Law of Attraction. He speaks of "the secret" behind wealth and prosperity. Now this book was first published in ...

A String of Pearls...
Maybe you are of an age that you remember when the Venerable Bishop Sheen was on the television? I am not one of those people. Maybe you know about Bishop Sheen being an "old" preacher, and maybe that concerns you? It concerned me. But under the guidance of someone I trust I purchased this book 3 years ago and read it. It is a string of perfect pearls! Each chapter deals with one ...

Roses for Mama (Women of the West #3)31 reviews
Janette Oke

Story House Corp, 1990

All-Time-Favorite Janette Oke
I first read "Roses For Mama" when I was 13 (many years ago), and was completely "hooked" on this story from the start. I have read it over and over and keep thinking about the characters and events even though it's been about a year since my last read. This is excellent fiction for readers of all ages - particularly for teenage girls, as it provides good moral lessons that are strongly needed ...

No Yelling: The 9 Secrets of Marine Corps Leadership You Must Know to Win in Business28 reviews
Wally Adamchik

FireStarter Speaking and Consulting, 2006

Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover
As a former M-60 tanker myself, I found the introduction of this book on leadership strategy very interesting. The author relates how when conducting a tactical exercise in Japan with his M-60 tank platoon, a sudden snow storm and ice forced operations to temporarily shut down and the author told his platoon members to "do something productive." Shortly thereafter - in a standard feature of every ...

Guerra Y Paz31 reviews

A Treasure for ALL Marines!
I purchased this book for my husband, for our anniversary. He had, many times, picked up this book at our local bookstore and thumbed through it. The book drew numerous smiles and comments from him. "Hey hun, look at this.." became the regular statement made, while browsing through the pages. Not only did the book offer a throrough history of the Corps, but it brought back endless memories for ...
