Alvin Booth: Corpus1 review

Edition Stemmle, 1999

My current favorite
I was only able to view this book for a few minutes, but I'm in love. As soon as the Holiday season is over I'm planning on buying it for myself. Beautiful images that are warm, rich, and extremely textural. Mr Booth, in my opinion was able to capture emotion and expression in a way that most photographers who deal with the figure as a subject never do.

Force Of A Feather5 reviews
DeEtta Demaratus

University of Utah Press, 2002

Many Forces Culminate in Powerful "Feather"
As a resident of Los Angeles, I purchased THE FORCE OF A FEATHER anticipating a biography of Biddy Mason, one of this city's early important religious/cultural figures. Before finishing the introduction, entitled "Coming to the Wall," I sensed that this book would be something else, itself quite apart from a standard biography. A meticulously researched work (along with vibrant illustrations), ...

Agathias: The Histories (Corpus Fontium Historiae Byzantinae, Vol 2a)1 review

Walter De Gruyter Inc, 1975

Short primary source for the 6th century Roman Empire
This book contains a translation in English of the Histories of the late 6th century AD writer, Agathias, a lawyer who took it upon himself to extend the histories of Procopius of Caesarea. Agathias seems to have been born around the year AD 530 and died sometime before AD 582. His history begins with purpose and ends abruptly, covering only the years AD 552-559. Though short, Agathias's ...

Beata Bishop

CORPUS PUBLISHING, 2005

A cure for melanoma
Beata Bishop, a British journalist and author, received the dread diagnosis of widespread melanoma, normally a death sentence. Her surgeon offered her no hope for survival, nor did the grim statistics for "the black death" as it is called. Then Beata became aware of a nutritional therapy that was offered in Tijuana, Mexico, the Gerson Therapy. After speaking with several people who had ...

Abortion;: The myths, the realities, and the arguments1 review
Germain Gabriel Grisez

Corpus Books, 1970

Partially outdated, but essential knowledge
I am saddened that this book never went through modernizing editions to the current day, but maybe that was determined by economics. The book gives a fairly dispassionate, exhaustive, and insightful review of all of the arguments that were in circulation since before Roe vs. Wade. The collection of the evidence is fantastic. I believe that Grisez is correct in almost all of his assumptions, ...

Corpus Morphus: The Human Anatomy Board Game with 1944 Multiple Choice Questions about all Aspects of the ...1 review

East Branch Press, 1998

Corpus Morphus - a good learning tool.
As a health care professional I was intrigued by a product advertised to give a good review of basic human anatomy while extravagantly claiming to make this subject entertaining. Corpus Morphus is a board game which completely lives up to its claims. This game is exciting, challenging, very comprehensive and all the game pieces are recyclable. People with varying degrees of anatomical ...

Corpus Concordance and Collocation (Describing English Language)1 review
John Sinclair

Oxford Univ Pr (Sd), 1991

The easy way into corpora
This is the nearest thing you'll ever get to an idiot's guide to corpus linguistics. It is a collection of papers which discusses everything it says on the label - corpus, concordance, collocation, and more. Corpora are now very much part of mainstream linguistics; this book opens the door to the 'uninitiated', explaining the fundamentals in the lucid prose that characterises all of Sinclair's ...

Corpus Linguistics and the Greek of the New Testament (New Testament Monographs)1 review
Matthew, Brook O'Donnell

Sheffield Phoenix Press Ltd, 2005

A scholarly but readable text
Matthew O'Donnell's work is groundbreaking and subtly unique. Apart from his remarkable research and discussion of New Testament Greek, Dr. O'Donnell challenges biblical scholars to look again at corpus linguistics - particularly the process of corpus building and its value to textual criticism, lexicography and discourse analysis.

Corpus Delicti1 review
Diane Wagner

St. Martin's Press, 1986

Great investigative true crime, ahead of its time!
Diane Wagner apparently knew that there was something extraordinary about the now almost forgotten case of one Leonard Ewing Scott who was put on trial for the murder of his wealthy wife in the mid 1950's in Los Angeles. In any case, Ms. Wagner's timing in writing the book was great because she was able to interview not only the (at that point) aging and failing Mr. Scott before he died, but she ...

Corpus Linguistics: A Short Introduction1 review
Wolfgang Teubert, Anna Cermakova

Continuum International Publishing Group, 2007

Clear introduction to neat topic, slightly oversold (4.5 stars)
I hadn't heard of corpus linguistics (CL) until I chanced on a clutch of books about it in a bookstore a couple of weeks ago. After scanning a few of them, this seemed like it had the best explanation of where CL fits into the context of lingusitics. Having now read it, I'm very satisfied with my choice. Whereas much of modern linguistics focuses on grammar, CL is focused on meaning. An ...

Corpus hermeticum1 review
Hermes Trismegisto

Edaf Antillas, 2001

Classic Text on Hermeticism
Corpus Hermeticum is considered one of the few 'essential texts' regarding Hermeticism. However this edition is not for everyone. Other editions are available but this one in particular is in Spanish. Please don't make the mistake and have to return it simply because the information isn't clearly displayed on the product page.

A must read
The Ancient Hebrew Inscriptions by Graham Davies pertains to the actual original Hebrew writings found on the Moabite Stone, Lachish Letters, the writings at the Pool of Siloam, and other areas where these ancient Hebraic writings were found in northeast Africa(so called Israel). The corpus and concordance is very helpful in your studying and research of the Ancient Hebrew Language. It is a must ...
