Saving the Family Cottage: A Guide to Succession Planning for your Cottage, Cabin, Camp or Vacation Home 2nd ...9 reviews
Stuart J. Hollander

Pleasant City Press, LLC., 2008

Fantastic succession planning book
This book is a great resource for familites who want to try to keep a family second home over multiple generations. Wish we had read this before putting our family property in a trust- after reading it, we will probably be changing to an LLC holding entity instead! Heartily recommend this book, we got 2 copies and are passing it around.

Country Living Cottage Style (Country Living)9 reviews
Marie Proeller Hueston, The Editors of Country Living

Hearst, 2006

Cottage Homes
This is a really gorgeous book. I love it! There are many different styles represented here but always faithful to the idea (which I hold), that cottage homes should be cozy and informal, a place to relax by a fire, sip cocoa, and read a good book. These are such homes. The cottages are uniformly charming and with emphasis on light, airy rooms. I like that. The photography is also beautifully ...

The River Cottage Cookbook5 reviews
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

Ten Speed Press, 2008

Back to basics
I hate this book. It makes me so terribly jealous of Hugh's country lifestyle. Filled with good, basic recipes and tons of information on growing foods and basic animal husbandry for anyone from city-dweller to rural smallholder, it is an upscale, up-to-date book in the vein of the old Carla Emery title "Encyclopedia of Country Living". For city dwellers, in addition to Hugh's simple recipes, ...

The River Cottage Meat Book25 reviews
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

Hodder & Stoughton Ltd, 2008

The River Cottage Meat Book
I recently purchased the River Cottage Book of Meat for a friend who is a lover of all things meat, but also a wonderful cook and collector of cookbooks. This is the note I received on his receipt of the book: "I love my present, the Book of Meat. From its lovingly rendered photographs of internal organs and pigs' feet to its lyrical prose to its encyclopedic musings on the wonders of Meat, it ...

The River Cottage Family Cookbook6 reviews
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Fizz Carr

Ten Speed Press, 2008

True Family Cookbook
This is the anti Martha Stewart. These are recipes that you (yes, YOU) can actually make "properly". It may not look perfect, but every recipe I've tried so far has turned out delicious (and I think they're even good for you). They are simple and fun and easy to follow. The kids can really help cook and will love to eat the results. Get messy, have fun, and make fabulous food. My 3.5-year old ...

The New Cottage Home: A Tour of Unique American Dwellings24 reviews
Jim Tolpin

Taunton, 2000

Worth the price....
As an avid cottage fan, and living in one while designing a new one to build for myself which is even more zen and simple, I found this book to be one of the best books on cottages around. Although I also admit what was considered a cottage when my place was built someone hundred years ago and what is considered a cottage in 2006 is around five square feet more in size. Of course I am a ...

Leeway Cottage: A Novel (P.S.)25 reviews
Beth Gutcheon

Harper Perennial, 2006

Great characters; interesting setting; good read
The characters in this book were so believable, not especially loveable, but certainly believable. The story ranges from Sydney's childhood to her death and the road from being an emotionally scarred child to a an emotionally scarring mother and grandmother. Unfortunately, so often we become the very people we have despised earlier. The plot involving the Danish resistance during WWII was very ...

Cottages on the Coast: Fair Harbors and Secret Shores4 reviews
Linda Leigh Paul

Universe Publishing, 2004

Sea Spray and Salt-Crust
When I picked up this book I was surprised to find it so filled with a wonderful variety of cottages. Cottages on the Coast is a small and wonderful glimpse of styles around the coasts of the United States. A small "photo album" near the beginning shows early pictures of some of the cottages that are featured later and as those same cottages appear today. A great selection of cottage styles, ...

Mary Emmerling's Beach Cottages: At Home by the Sea12 reviews
Mary Emmerling

Clarkson Potter, 2008

Thanks to Ms. Emmerling's book, I can be in a "beachy" mood every day!
I live approximately 60 miles from the Oregon Coast and nearly 900 miles from Malibu and Santa Monica, California...three of my favorite places in the world! I simply can't enough of "beach" and coastal themes in my decor, my attire, my art, my music and my life... So what's a self-described "beach girl" like me to do when she's stuck inland and can't go to the beach whenever she wants? She ...

Christmas at Sea Pine Cottage2 reviews
Sally Smith O'Rourke

Kensington, 2008

Marley meet Meteor
I read this delightful book written from a dog's viewpoint. I now wonder if I live up to my dog's expectations. My 9 year old son has a hard time finding books he likes and he enjoyed this one. I gave the book to his 5th grade teacher-they will be reading it in their class to help them write better. It is more than a Christmas book it is about how they deal with their own wounded souls and ...

Country Living Cottage Gardens (Country Living)1 review
Toby Musgrave

Hearst, 2007

Cottage Gardens Review
When Country Living puts its name on a book, it is usually chock full of pretty pictures. The new book Cottage Gardens by Toby Musgrave is no exception. Anyone who isn't sure exactly what they want in a garden, but leans toward an informal style, will enjoy flipping through the book for ideas. Also, the garden plans are nicely done. The book is well written, but it is hard to write yet another ...

The Tale of Cuckoo Brow Wood (The Cottage Tales of Beatrix P)14 reviews
Susan Wittig Albert

Berkley, 2007

Continues to enchant
If the village of Near Sawrey put out its weekly newspaper about the fortnight during which this story takes place, some of the headlines would read: "Major Christopher Kittredge returns to Raven Hall with his Lovely New Bride" and "Rat Explosion at Hill Top Farm Threatens Village" and "Village Plans May Day Celebration" and perhaps "Stay Clear of the Cuckoo Brow Wood on May Eve." The society ...

Ideas for Great Backyard Cottages (Ideas for Great)8 reviews
Cynthia Overbeck Bix

Sunset Books, 2002

Delightful to relax with
This book is just a delight to sit and page thru for dreaming up ideas of your own. Page after page of beautiful cottages, quaint little retreats, and even custom doghouses. I have my own "carriage house" converted into an artist studio and just love it. There is really nothing more relaxing then building, decorating, then enjoying your own backyard cottage. If you have the yard space put the ...

Creating Cottage Style: Stylish Ideas And Step-by-step Projects3 reviews
Katherine Sorrell

Ryland Peters & Small, 2005

charming book
I love this book! I flipped through a few 'cottage' style books and this one I had to take home. Filled with great photos, ideas and inspiration. I like the relaxed way the book is written and refer to this book time and time again! There are a few do it yourself projects included, ie: make your own pillow cover, plate rack, tablecloth, etc.. that personally I don't really need (but these take up ...

The Southern Cottage: From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Florida Keys5 reviews
Susan Sully

Rizzoli, 2007

A Treasure
Susan Sully's "The Southern Cottage" is a beautifully written book, illustrated with stunning photographs of eighteen charming cottages. In the spirit of full disclosure, my home is featured in the book (four pages of text and eight photos). I had never met Susan before she visited me last year. An officer of our local Preservation Society recommended my home, a mid-nineteenth century ...
