Honest ingredients and excellent results
My husband and I bought this book in the French Quarter on our honeymoon in 1976, and in spite of the care I've taken to protect it, it is now in tatters from all the use. Every recipe I've tried is wonderful, and many are standard fare now. For example, the Dutch Baby is a Sunday morning favorite, and Lemon Loves always get gobbled up first when taken to a summer party. The amazing ladies ...

Wonderful inspiring cookbook!
I just received this from Amazon the other day. It is a plastic binder. This makes it very easy to removed the recipe that you want to make without having to Turn the book this way or that way to read the recipe and look at the picture. The other wonderful part of this cookbook is that the pictures help guide you. The recipes are only on one page and the picture on the other side. I had this ...

The true tale of a meat lover's conversion
I've had the Tra Vigne Cookbook for a few years now, and I use it regularly. It's an attractive book, with beautiful photos and intriguing introductions to the recipes. It's hard to stop browsing once you open the book, and an inspiration to actually do some cooking. The dishes are great. The Chicken with Roasted Lemon and Rosemary Sauce is a favorite, as is the Fusilli Michelangelo. My niece ...

The best overall book for country living
There's a reason why so many farmers and homesteaders consider Carla Emory's book to be THE definitive source of information. Sure she wrote it many years ago, but it has evolved with each printing into a total package of information. It covers everything from raising and butchering livestock, to baking, gardening, canning, using herbs, building chicken coops and churning butter. I've turned to ...

The recipes in this cookbook are fantastic. They are simple to make and absolutely delicious. Mama Dips has changed our long standing Thanksgiving tradition...her roated turkey recipe is so delectable we use this recipe now instead of the one that's been in use for the last 50 years. You won't go wrong with this cookbook. Highly recommended!!!

--Very enjoyable--
COOKING FROM QUILT COUNTRY is a pleasure to read. The title comes from the fact that Amish and Mennonite people are famous for their quilt making skills. This book gives a little background of the Mennonite and Amish sects and how they came into existence. The roots of the two groups originated with the Protestant Reformation and the Swiss Anabaptist movement. The leader was a Dutch priest ...

My favorite cookbook
I heartily agree with all the reviews. This cookbook is wonderful. I had never heard of the Hay Day Country Market (being a midwesterner) but was intrigued by the book. I bought it a year ago and it is a constant reference. I have even given this book as gifts to 5 people and each has loved. My particular favorites are the Pecan Crusted Chicken and Homemade Ginger Brew. Buy it and enjoy!!

Excellent Resource For Novice Wine Drinkers
Although drinking good wine isn't difficult, learning about wine can be. Once on a winery tour a vintner explained that there are 15,000 different choices that can be made from grape to bottle. Sometimes picking out a wine can seem daunting. Food Scholar's Wine Selection & Etiquette does a superior job of teaching those of us who would like to learn more without the information being overkill. ...

i'm a total fan
My boyfriend and I are good cooks and food mavens who nonetheless don't cook a lot. We know from great food and the recipes in this book are superb. In no other book have I ever found recipes which consistently yielded such high--i.e., restaurant-quality--results. Another great thing is the fact that many of these recipes don't require a lot of expensive/hard-to-find ingredients. We cooked out of ...

The Neighborhood Forager is a very informative and enjoyable book. It not only tells about the plants in our backyards and by-ways but gives historical information, recipes, warnings and dyer's tips. Mr. Henderson writes with humor and personal anecdotes which makes the book a good read even if you're not into foraging.

A great beginning Cajun cookbook.
It's hard to learn to cook Cajun food from a cookbook; the food traditions of the Cajuns of Southwest Louisiana have been passed down orally for 400 years, and only in the "Cajun Cuisine" craze of the late '80s-early '90s did Cajun cookbooks really start to become popular. These recipes are stripped down to the bare basics, because that's how Cajuns do it. Cajuns don't customarily use ...

Ronni Lundy knows southern comfort foods and like any good southerner has a story that goes with it. I really like her writing style as she shares some good meals and profiles compassionate people. This book will make your mouth ...

Fun Reading
This is a fun book to read. Part personal story and part tasting room reviews, it combines interesting information about wine making, the stories behind the people and the wineries, and details about each tasting room. It is well-written but in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way. It's very approachable and teaches about the wine business without making you feel like you are an idiot. One of the ...

I discovered this book over a year ago, at the public library.
