Pure Magic: A Complete Course in Spellcasting11 reviews
Judika Illes

Weiser Books, 2007

Excellent
Please be warned that this book is a republished version of Judika Illes' "Earth Mother Magic", with slight alterations. It remains an excellent book, especially for those with a wish to enter the world of witchcraft, but with no idea how to begin. It covers a wide variety of subjects and several usefull spells while remaining clear and easy-to-read at all times. I highly recommend it.

Pure Dessert10 reviews
Alice Medrich

Artisan, 2007

totally reliable recipes, fantastic results
I love baking and making desserts and have collected lots of great recipes by Dorie Greenspan, Nigella Lawson, Maida Heatter and others. I only discovered Alice Medrich's books about six months ago but she's now become my absolute favorite. Out of all these authors, she's the only one whose recipes are absolutely reliable and always turn out perfectly. The almond cake and the Italian ...

A Course of Pure Mathematics Centenary edition (Cambridge Mathematical Library)1 review
G. H. Hardy

Cambridge University Press, 2008

The book for a serious student of mathematics
This is the book for a serious student to begin his study of analysis. This is Hardy's timeless masterpiece. There is no other Calculus book even remotely close it. The collection of the problems in this book is superb. After you wade through this book, your command of Calculus will be unshakable and your whole view of mathematics could also alter. This is one of few math and science ...

A Course Of Pure Mathematics17 reviews
G. H. Hardy

Rough Draft Printing, 2007

Let's Not Go Overboard
First, this is very nice book that was first published in 1908. It is EXTREMELY well written BUT what Hardy does in around 500 pages Rudin does in around 100 and with a more rigor (but, admittedly, very terse). You also have to remember that if you are studying analysis from a book 100 years old there are a few things that have happened since then - like the "Incompleteness Theorem" and the ...

A course of pure geometry; containing a complete geometrical treatment of the properties of the conic ...1 review
Michigan Historical Reprint Series

Scholarly Publishing Office, University of Michigan Library, 2005

Yet a modern book!
This is a reprint of a very old book (1903), but even now it is an excellent introduction to general geometry and in particular to conics. It is very easy to follow and everybody can attain an extraordinarily broad overview of this discipline. Only for romantics and interested people.

Taste Pure and Simple: Irresistible Recipes for Good Food and Good Health7 reviews
Michel Nischan

Chronicle Books, 2003

lengthy preperations but WORTH IT!
the preperations are not difficult, but they do take a while- involving many steps. however, i wouldn't want to skip a thing because there is a reason for the preperations and it comes out in the taste. the vegetable lasagne was one of the best i have ever made and it had a substantial taste to it that satisfied my meat-loving and veggie-hating husband. this is one of the better cookbooks on ...

Whitewater Cooks: Pure, Simple and Real Creations from the Fresh Tracks Cafe5 reviews
Shelley Adams

Whitecap Books, 2007

Terrific Cookbook
I love this cookbook. The pictures alone are wonderful, and the recipes themselves turn out both beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. I've made about ten of the recipes. So far, our favorites are the black bean vegetarian chili, the corn bread, and the white chocolate-hazelnut brownies. The only criticism I have is that the book is poorly edited. Some of the ingredients are not specific ...

PURE KETCHUP PB2 reviews
SMITH ANDREW F

Smithsonian, 2001

Say, can I get some fries with the ketchup?
According to some arcane device called the Bostwick Consistometer ("Oh, honey, what happened to that old Bostwick we used to have in the attic?"), ketchup "cannot flow faster than fourteen centimeters in thirty seconds at twenty degrees centigrade". Author Andrew Smith, while citing this fact in PURE KETCHUP, fails to say if this is on a downhill slope or level straightaway. I guess I'll have to ...

This classic work is now available in an unabridged paperback edition. Hilton and Wu's unique approach brings the reader from the elements of linear algebra past the frontier of homological algebra. They describe a number of different algebraic domains, then emphasize the similarities and differences between them, employing the terminology of categories and functors. Exposition begins with set theory and group theory, and continues with coverage ...

First Course in Numerical Analysis (International Series in Pure & Applied Mathematics)5 reviews
Anthony Ralston, Philip Rabinowitz

Mcgraw-Hill College, 1978

good intermediate text on numerical analysis
This is a good intermediate text on numerical analysis. The development of the underlying real variable theory is much more rigorous than the closely related and more recent text "Numerical Recipes in C". Also, there is more attention paid to function theoretic considerations such as notions of continuity and compactness. This is basically an introductory numerical functional analysis textbook. ...
