Robin Cowie

eBay performance! Good for eBayers
I read this cover to cover. Great book for eBayers, in that it tells you exactly how to research products, _before_ deciding to invest in inventory. Gives some tips on how to use an affordable tool called "HammerTap" to do such things as figure out LSR (Listing Success Rate) and ASP (Average Sales Price) which is very useful when product sourcing. The Abbot and I: As Told by Josie the Cat4 reviews
Sarah Elizabeth Cowie

Conciliar Press, 2001

A must-buy
I found the book initially in Greek and my daughter loved the cat and the people; then I bought it also in English as a gift. The illustrations are fantastic and the text is very sweet (the cat feeding the "poor" stray cats). It describes very nicely the everyday life of a monastery. I would definitely recommend it for ages 2 and up!

Oxford Learner's Pocket Dictionary2 reviews

Oxford University Press, 1983

I would like every Japanese high-school student to have it.
Though this dictionary is a handy-sized book, it is as much useful and valuable for Japanese student as LDOCE (Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English). If every Japanese high-school student has it and use it every day, their ability to speak in English would be tremendously improved.

Annie Hall (Bfi Film Classics)1 review
Peter Cowie

British Film Institute, 1996

Brief but excellent + informative study of a major U.S. film
Peter Cowie's monograph is the perfect companion to Woody Allen's first masterpiece, and one of the best in the BFI Classics series. 'Annie Hall' is the film that marked Allen's transition from a sketch-based, spoof/parody comedian, to the sardonic romantic comic with pretensions to seriousness that has divided critics ever since. Cowie explains the various elements of this development: Allen's ...

Effortless Elegance With Colin Cowie: Menus, Tips, Strategies, and More Than 200 Recipes6 reviews
Colin Cowie, Maureen Clancy

HarperCollins Publishers, 1996

Scrumptous recipes!
I've poured through this book over and over again. Although I love seeing the photos of Colin's presentations and decor, I find the recipes incredibly different and easy to prepare. I use Effortless Elegance as a cookbook, perusing the index for dishes I'm considering. I'm especially wild about his recipe for Grilled Shrimp on Lemongrass Skewers. I now keep a permanent stash of frozen ...

Louise Brooks: Lulu Forever12 reviews
Peter Cowie

Rizzoli, 2006

Thank you for this book
First of all thank you Mr Cowie for this fine piece of art in itself. Myself, I think Louise Brooks is and was the most beautiful actress-model ever. Its hard to put in words how her beauty and expressions move me. I love the look of the 20's and 30's and she was the icon for that era. This book is not only a beautiful history of Lulu but a fine photo album of her life in her hay day. I ...

Games3 reviews
Vera Cowie

Doubleday Books, 1986

A fascinating book
you really get sucked into the emotions of the characters and the descriptions are very good. You can almost taste the orange juice and smell the coffee in the morning after scene. That part always makes me want to cook breakfast. Anyway, back to the story. The story is good, it reminds me of Good in Bed the way it draws you in emotionally. Julia is so pragmantic and unromantic that you never ...

CINEMA OF ORSON WELLES1 review
PETER COWIE

DA CAPO PRESS, INC., 1986

An admirable exercise of erudition and good taste!
Peter Cowie has written one of the most admirable and egregious compendiums ever made around the figure and transcendence of the savage maudit of the cinema: Orson Welles. Indeed, Cowie not only gives us a marvelous biographic sketch, he walks buy unexplored lands, describing zealously every movie directed by Welles, as well as the different insights and invaluable references of the most ...

Tarot for Successful Living1 review
Norma Cowie

NC Publishing, 1996

Great for beginners or experienced Tarot readers
Tarot For Successful Living by Norma Cowie is an excellent Tarot resource. Her approach is positive and her philosophy supports the beginning Tarot reader and adds insight for more experienced readers. I first found this book at the library in an earlier edition. I was thrilled to find the latest edition at Amazon.com. I have recommended this book to all my friends who have an interest in ...

Antique Collector's Dictionary53 reviews
Donald Cowie

Gramercy Publishing Co, NY, 1962

Excellent Tool
My friend bought this dictionary, and I quickly followed suit. It gives concise definitions that are easy to understand, and it's the right size for my nightstand (not too big, but big enough to have a huge # of words). My friend said the CD is great, too, but I haven't used it yet.

Revolution!: The Explosion of World Cinema in the Sixties1 review
Peter Cowie

Faber & Faber, 2004

A wonderful survey of an entire era
This is a wonderful, well-written and informative text on the cinema in the '60's. It's main focus is the European film industry, and through first-hand accounts, interviews and retrospective narratives, Cowie deftly examines the decade of revolution and how the cinema changed and the personalities who contributed to the art form's liberation. There are a number of names and films explored that ...

Colin Cowie Chic: The Guide to Life As It Should Be37 reviews
Colin Cowie

Clarkson Potter, 2007

I want to live with Colin Cowie!
As a fellow perfectionist, I enjoyed this book greatly. It's not a heavy read, it's light with pictorial images to support it. Just reading it and looking at the images made me want to immediately rectify my own living and working space. Some of his ideas are common sense, some just great ideas, and others just purely inspirational. I found myself nodding at some ideas as I am already doing ...

Phraseology: Theory, Analysis, and Applications (Oxford Studies in Lexicography and Lexicology)1 review

Oxford University Press, USA, 2001

Essential for Phraseology Students
As a PhD student in the field of 16th Century German phraseology I am delighted to have found this book. It touches on a variety of aspects of phraseology from the earlier East European research to more recent Western ones. Although the language, in some articles,is necessarily technical (as for instance Igor Mel'cuk's contribution) it is nevertheless written so that any student can benefit ...

Peer Support in Action: From Bystanding to Standing By1 review
Helen Cowie, Patti Wallace

Sage Publications Ltd, 2001

absolutely brilliant!
I have found this book to be extremely helpful in setting up a peer support group. The overview of current research is topical, and the practical exercises cover major aspects of listening actively to other people. I also liked the chapter on ethics and the law. I thoroughly recommend it!

Ingmar Bergman: A Critical Biography1 review
Peter Cowie

Scribner, 1982

Start here
Well, this is it... Bergman is notorioiusly difficult to sum up - we've had biographical, psychoanalytical, religious, aesthetic, God-knows-what-else approaches... But this book is about the best you'll get. Cowie, rightly regarded as an expert on Swedish (and Finnish9 film, provides a readable, informative and sensitive history. It has that perfect combination of enough fact for the uninitiated ...

The mind and art of Coventry Patmore1 review
John Cowie Reid

Routledge & Paul, 1957

Timeless poet who deserves a new study of his life and art
This Victorian Catholic convert and poet is so sadly neglected today that you have to go back to this study in order to find out much about him -- but this book is well worth seeking out for this purpose. The author of the deliciously old-fashioned poems "The Angel in the House" and "The Unknown Eros" as well as the influential book of aphorisms entitled "The Rod, The Root, and the Flower", ...
