Time Bandit: Two Brothers, the Bering Sea, and One of the World's Deadliest Jobs
My husband and I both read this book and really enjoyed reading the stories of these brothers. We have watched this show many times and still enjoyed this book and excited about what would be on the next page. We learned things about crab fishing that you don't see while watching the show. It was one of those books we could not put down. We would purchase this book again.

Quintessential Tale of a Boy's Love for His Dog
Straight out of the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside, in a quaint location called White OaK Valley, come a Border Collie named Crab Cake and a boy called Pepper. Get ready readers, for they will steal your heart away. It's been a long time since I've read a book that carried me back to another time and place where family lifestyles and values were foremost, honest and uncomplicated. Whether ...

Selfish shellfish finds satisfaction in doing for others
Bill Peet is a wonderful children's book author and Kermit The Hermit is a great example of his work. It is a 1965 story about a Hermit Crab who starts out the story as a selfish shellfish. Through an act of human kindness, he learns the emptiness of a self-centered life. Kermit devotes himself to repaying the favor and finds satisfaction in doing for others. The book is a long rhyming poem with ...

Pre-eminent literature
The Night of the Crabs is an unsurpassed masterpiece written by a worthy preceptor to anyone with a penchant for penning perverse excellence. I last read this novel several years ago and only recently have I recognised its genius; how it has haunted me in the interim. Like 'Moby Dick' and 'Arnie the Darling Starling' we are confronted with an edifying treatise on its respective discipline - ...

Purchased as a gift.
This was the perfect gift for my sister who lived on Dafuskie island for several years. She personally knew Sallie Ann and was sad to leave her east coast home and the lovely people she met there. The book brought back memories of a delightful period in her life.

it's all good
I make commercial crab traps for a living and this book has it all. When I mention this book to commercial crabbers most already know, they own the book! This book even talks about a ropes 'scope' when you put a trap in the water. A rookie commercial crabber I knew didn't clue into this fact and 'deadheaded' a string of thirty traps! Why a trap should be round is explained. Why a traps entrances ...

Gentle little hermit crab searches the beach for a new home.
Simple, sweet story of a little hermit crab who has outgrown his shell and crawls, "scritch, scratch," along the beach in search of a new home. He tries out a variety of items; including a tin can, which is too noisy and a plastic bucket, which is too big. He becomes entangled in a net and is chased by a pricklepine fish before he finally finds just the right home and "snuggles" in. Beautiful ...

Refreshing
Finally a book about living with cancer that doesn't have a saccharine, happy ending. Middlebrook writes for the large number of cancer patients who don't necessarily have great diagnoses, and who aren't well-served by the current body of literature that emphasizes good outcomes. As she writes about how other people have such a hard time even *talking* about cancer, how one's own ...

Very funny and interesting!
I recently came across Crankshaft as it's printed in newspapers in California, rather than in my hometown. I absolutely love the comic strip, so I quickly got this. This book is excellent. I was surprised as it was published this year, but the strips in the book were created about ten years ago. The Crankshaft comic strips are similar to Lynn Johnston's For Better or For Worse, as both strips ...

Provincetown Seafood
This is my favorite seafood cookbook of all time. The recipes are generally traditional dishes brought over to New England from Portugal. If you have access to good Atlantic stocks, like Maine shrimp, cod, squid, mackerel, and clams, this is a must have. The elegance of this book is its simplicity.

Does Anyone Know Where A Hermit Crab Goes
My mother bought this book some time ago to read to my son while he was visiting, and he has since fallen in love with it. The book follows Permit Drab the Hermit Crab as he looks for a new home. His shell has gotten too small for him, and his task is to find one that will be comfortable enough for him to live in. This book is written in a way that people of all ages can enjoy it, and it's ...

Year of the Snake
The wonder of Year of the Snake, by Lee Ann Roripaugh, is that it participates in the continuous becoming of the world. No image is content to rest on the page, but instead consistently drives to become distinctly other. Even the metamorphosis of a mayfly becomes mythic in its urge to "emerge sleeker/ shinier, brighter, without a mouth/ to eat with, exquisite and doomed,/ driven to swarm in a ...

If you're reading this, you have an interest in poetry, and if you have an interest in poetry, the good kind, the dynamic and moving kind, you should own this book. You'll be lucky to get a first printing. There is a sly wisdom in these poems about the things of this world as remarkable as what we find in Richard Wilbur. In fact, the lines are as well-wrought as Wilbur. Considering Davidson's ...
