Something for everybody
I thoroughly enjoyed this diverse collection of pieces about different states of body beingness. I didn't read it cover to cover but rather jumped around, beginning with what subjects felt most relevant to me, and soon found that all contributions had something vital to offer. I appreciated most of all the vivid descriptions of daily life, like the sounds and smells of Karen Myers' climb up a ...

Chicago A to Z
Anthologies are tricky beasts, since readers will always pan in on what's wrong with them. BAY POETICS for example does a lovely job of presenting a farflung panoply of Bay Area writers, but some have nevertheless complained that it's clubby, too consistent. Chicago-based poets William Allegrezza and Ray Bianchi have complicated their own job by re-imagining their subject in various ways, ...

Excellent!!!!
This book was better then the first. I won't go into plot detail here, but I will say buy this book. Varis is starting to come into her own now. She is still sorting out her allies and enemies (and those in between). I love the fact that she is still the same person. The Varis that was living in the Dredge is still the Varis that rules Amenkor, only more worldly...or should I say experienced. I ...

colorful artwork, great story to go with it
This is an enjoyable book for kids of all ages to enjoy. The art work is hilarious! Celery stands with arms akimbo along with the other angry vegetables who throw Eggbert out of his home in the refrigerator, into the world. It is a message of hope and acceptance of yourself that spans the ages. I bought it because I fanned through the book and loved the art work, but the story that goes with ...

Cracked Corn and Snow Ice Cream
This precious book caught my eye mainly because of the "snow ice cream" in the title! How fondly I remember my mother scooping up great heaps of freshly fallen snow to make that wonderful treat! And in this book we have the RECIPE! I bought the book as a gift for a 10-year-old girl who lives on a farm, plus an extra copy for myself! There are many, many wonderful thoughts, facts, pictures, ...

A shining testimonial to grace
Few people have gone through what Jim Cyr did as a child. The fact that he survived, and has created a successful life for himself, is a testimoy to grace. This book is shocking in mnay ways, but Jim is as graphic about the way to his healing as he is about the horrors he experienced. The stories he shares, and how they helped him heal, are especially fresh. Searing in its honesty, without a hint ...

Much More than a Whodunnit!
John Shannon has proven to be a master at crime fiction, as he develops his characters with sympathy and understanding. Those who are interested primarily in chases and mayhem may not find this book worthwhile, but those who appreciate character development, humor and intelligence in a novel will very much enjoy it. I'm looking forward to reading other books by John Shannon.

What? No audio?
I wanted this book in audio but since it wasn't available I was forced to actually READ it, as it was recommended by a friend. I'M SO GLAD I DID! This book sticks to the theme that sometimes life just isn't fair but the challenge of fixing it becomes a bigger issue and provides a moral to this story. This was tough subject matter but artfully written. I was overwhelmed with feelings of ...

Cracked me up!
Some lives were just made to be made fun of. Some lives are so wacky, so silly, so undeniably cracked up, you just can't help but chuckle. Kathryn S. Mahoney is living one of those lives. Kathryn Mahoney, who thinks she was CRACKED AT BIRTH, takes time to sit back and good naturedly marvel at the absurdity in her life. And, like the next door neighbor who keeps us in stitches with her zany ...

A trio of wonderful stories
I'm an avid male reader and have been a die-hard Kendra Norman Bellamy fan for years now. So she's the real reason I purchased this book. But all of the stories are extremely well written and quite engaging. I think Kendra's is the best but I'm probably being bias. What can I say? I can't help but love the strong men that she creates in her stories.

Once again the two find themselves swept up into Twain's classic. Both soon find out that Tom is pretty much like ...

An intelligent, humorous, yet practical cookbook
This book called out to me from the shelf of a local store (in New Orleans). The cover is a little shocking at first glance, but that only made me want to read the introduction which was entertaining. I thought I'd just flip through it---but alas it's not just a novelty book. I've actually tried a few of these recipes and they work (good honest hearty chow). What's best about this cookbook is ...

This book is real and good
Dr. Drew Pinsky provides an honest, vulnerable look. The honesty itself was the best part. I really got to experience the circumstances he wrote about. I found myself crying along with the Author and walking through some of the same feelings he described he had. I was left in a very good place after finishing this book. I have never been so moved as to write a reveiw for anyother book. If ...

A brilliant piece of work.
Reeves and Campbell cut through all of the drug war crap in this superb cultural analysis. The role of the news -- especially the television network news -- is clear in the creation of a major "drug problem" and the need for a war on drugs. Need to know why the jails are overflowing with drug users? As this book points out, the Reagan-era news loved this "lock 'em up" story.

Reviewed by Tyler R. Tichelaar for Reader Views (3/07) "Cracked Crystals," by Larry Rochelle, is the third in a series of eight mystery novels with Palmer Morel as the main character; however, the book can be read without having read the previous two novels. Cracked Pomegranate - Author: Fae Bidgoli Regent Press 2006 ISBN #1-58790-122-6 This is a first novel by author Fae Bidgoli. It is semi-autobiographical, and very much a "coming of age" story. It is also a compelling story of how women relate to each other, and how the generations connect. While the setting is far from anything that most of us could comprehend (Bidgoli was born in ...

Wow! This story has certainly made an impact on my children. Even at 6 & 8 they came away with a good understanding of what a tragedy is...the style of Shakespeare and the classic quotes from Romeo & Juliet. I even learned more.
