Colonial American Craftspeople (Colonial America)1 review
Bernardine S. Stevens

Franklin Watts, 1993

BooksbyCee's Review of "Colonial American Craftspeople"
As an adult Historian I actually enjoyed reading this book, finding it a great resource on a topic most history books only touch base on. Not so here and though it's an excellent book for children, adults might enjoy it if you're not into heavy reading as it's works well for a handy resource, too. Though not a thick book by most accounts, it does however cover information on various crats used ...

Designs and Patterns for Embroiderers and Craftspeople4 reviews
William Briggs & Co.

Dover Publications, 1974

So much to choose from!
I bought this book several days ago and was not disappointed. There is so much to choose from. I haven't been able to decide what to do first. The illustrations are basic line drawings. They are ready to go for tracing right out of the book or scanning into your computer to reduce wear and tear on the book. The front of the book displays a whole bunch of embroidery stitches and the directions on ...

A great fantasy resource!

Well-written guide with a wide range of aesthetically pleasing examples.
The book is well-written and the examples include some stunning and unusual pieces of art and craft (including painting, photography, pottery, needlework, quilting and more). It is an excellent introduction to design for beginners (artists, craftsmen and art-lovers) but even intermediate readers will find it useful.

Great designs
I love doing applique, and recently I've started putting padded applique on sweatshirts. This is just one of the books I bought to get me started. The designs are cute, simple, attractive, and lend themselves to multiple applications. Best of all, my sweatshirt creations have been a hit with customers.

The Entertainment Sourcebook: 2004 (Entertainment Sourcebook)1 review

Applause Books, 2003

Priceless
There is no book or publication that equals the scope and usefulness - more truly, the utter essential nature - of this book. Previously the New York Theatrical Sourcebook, and known in the industry of theatre merely as "the Green Book", the updated listings in each year's edition are reason enough to justify its acquisition. However, this edition now features category listings, company and ...

Old English Tile Designs for Artists and Craftspeople (Dover Pictorial Archive Series)3 reviews
Carol Belanger Grafton

Dover Publications, 1984

Nice design illustrations
There are 150 floor tile designs from medieval cathedrals and monasteries rendered in black&white. Lots of animals, dragons, griffins, and fleur-de-lis. There are also face images of kings, jesters, etc. All designs are shown in decent (maybe actual?) tile size (around 4-5 inches square), as well as in groups of four (or more if required), to show how repeats would work. All designs are ...

Great Book of Fairy Patterns: The Ultimate Design Sourcebook for Artists and Craftspeople15 reviews
Lora S. Irish

Fox Chapel Publishing, 2004

Beautiful Fairies
I received this book last week, and have already used the 'praying angel' to do a stitchery as a gift for a child making her first communion. Now my daughters are each demanding one - and I intend to use several designs in a quilt. I am using them as they are presented in the book, but also the author has explained how to change the pose/wings, etc., of a particular fairy if you want to. The ...

Islamic Designs for Artists and Craftspeople (Dover Pictorial Archive)3 reviews
Eva Wilson

Dover Publications, 1988

An excellant source for Arabic designs!
Ms. Wilson presents various elements of Arabic designs drawn mostly in black and white. She includes instruction for reproducing the designs and commentary on time periods and original colors used. The only thing that would have made this book better would have been pictures of the artifacts she refers to in her extensive documentation. A must have for anyone doing Islamic or Arabic arts!
