Interprocess Communications in Unix: The Nooks and Crannies6 reviews
John Shapley Gray

Prentice Hall, 1996

Succinct and thorough
I'm the sort who prefers a well done quick reference guide to a textbook. If the material is presented clearly enough, I don't need or want to wade through page after page laying the groundwork for things I either already know or can figure out for myself. This book seems written with me in mind. It covered almost every aspect of Unix interprocess communications in sufficient detail for me to ...

Interprocess Communications in Linux: The Nooks and Crannies3 reviews
John Shapley Gray

Prentice Hall PTR, 2003

Great book on IPC topics for intermediate level
This book covers local IPC(pipes, lock files, locking files, semaphores, message queues and shared memory) and remote IPC(RPC, network sockets). It uses EXTENSIVE demo code to explain the concept which really helps you to master the design. This is a great book for both beginners and inter-mediate *nix programmers. highly recommend.

On Us Thy Poor Children1 review
Robert Cranny

Dial Press, 1982

Terrible
Most of my mother's family are in this book, although supposedly well disguised. Mr Cranny's book is not a faithfull representation of Irish life in Dun Laoghaire in 1940s. The title is misleading they were not that poor.

Faces Along the Bar1 review
Robert Cranny

Welcome Rain, 2002

Memorable characters
You won't be able to stop thinking about the finely nuanced characters in this book. This is a very well written portrait of that time. And the ending will have you on the edge of your seat!

Rummaging for God: Seeking the Holy in Every Nook and Cranny1 review
Melannie Svoboda

Twenty-Third Publications, 1999

Excellent source to FIND GOD in every nook and cranny!
As I am reading Sr. Melannie's book and using it for quiet, medatative prayer, I am wondering why she didn't sub-title the book "... Finding God in Every Nook and Cranny," for that is what this book helps me to do. Looking at life through the eyes of this author, it is easy to see God in some of the simplest aspects of our daily lives. Have you ever thought about the traffic noises ...

Sandor Nagyszalanczy

Taunton, 2005

Great ideas!
To make the most of our new home, I was looking for ideas for custom made cabinetry and other storage options. Although the style of quite a few examples are not to my taste, I still got enough ideas and inspiration. Also a plus; the book gives you tips for matching built-ins to the rest of the room, to get a coordinated look. My favourite chapters: Passages (great storage options to be found ...

Body in the Text (Interpretations series)
Anne Cranny-Francis

Melbourne University Publishing, 1995

That seemingly 'natural' object, the human body, has become in the late twentieth century - an age characterised by the development of such phenomena as genetic engineering, information technologies and cyborg fantasies - an object of interdisciplinary enquiry and politically committed critiques, to which this book offers a critical introduction. It surveys the recent wealth of writing on 'the body' as an object of interdisciplinary enquiry.
