A New God for the Crawfish People: Tales of a Bayou Boy With 4 Souls, A Child of Strange Fruit & What ...2 reviews
Bob Ed Radley

Outskirts Press, 2007

I Had No Idea
Until a friend of mine told me about this book and I read it, I sort of thought that Louisiana culture was basically Mardi Gras and New Orleans with some Doctor John thrown in. Bob Ed Radley opened my eyes to a whole world, and I can't wait to visit some of the places he talked about in the book. If they really exist, that is, and aren't just in his imagination. Can't wait. --Marv was Mike

102 Uses for a Louisiana Crawfish1 review
Jerry Madara

David King Gleason, 1984

Funny, different
The Louisiana crawfish has been known the world over as a delicious food source, but only recently have other practical uses for the crustacean been discovered. This is a funny book of cartoons, an interesting keepsake for anyone who loves Louisiana food and culture.

Jake's Seafood6 reviews
Chefs at Jakes Famous Crawfish Restaurant, Edward Gowans, 1993

Excellent seafood, reasonable prep time
This is a great cookbook for the fish lover. I have had it for about 2 years and have tried almost 20 of the recipes-- all turned out very well. This book has taken the famous recipes of the McCormick and Schmick(?) restaurants and simplified them slightly. Many of the recipes can be done in 15 minutes or less and without alot of exotic ingredients!

Down the Crawfish Hole1 review
Wes Thomas

Pelican Publishing Company, 2004

Down the Crawfish Hole
Down the Crawfish Hole is well written for children. A wonderful variation of Alice in Wonderland with a little boy fishing as the major character. It is whimsical and magical and children should be enchanted. The artistry of the illustrations is just fabulous. The drawings are detailed and fun, and perfectly fit the story. Looking forward to more children's books from Wes Thomas.

Wonderful Stories
This book is as much about the stories of family and friendship as it is about cooking. You can sense the passion for all things food and fun in the authors words. I know I have lived the story. Brandon Hall, Tim Hall's son.

Hot Peppers: The Story of Cajuns and Capsicum (Chapel Hill Book)1 review
Richard Schweid

The University of North Carolina Press, 1999

a tabasco lover's bible
Hi, I have an old edition, published by the Ten Speed Press of Berkeley,CA of this book. I was curious to see if it was still in print and was happy to see that it has been re-published by UNC. It is a great book about my favorite food additive, the one,the only, McIlhenny Co. Tabasco Sauce. I don't know how I could eat food without Tab'! That plus even hotter sauces like Blair's Jersey Death ...

Clovis Crawfish and the Big Betail1 review
Mary A. Fontenot

Claitor's Law Books and Publishing, 1963

Wonderful Book for pre-school Boy
I bought this book for my 3.5 year old grandson. He has fallen in love with it - sleeps with it and the Bidon Box Turtle. He corrects pronounciations of others who read it. He is also learning geography (Texas, South Lousiana, and Mississippi). The chacters are all loveable and the illustrations (mostly in color in the newwer versions) are wonderful. He is now having us work with him to create ...

The Collard Patch28 reviews
Mary Lou Cheatham, Paul Elliott

Blue Moon Books Louisiana, 2006

Two for the price of one! Recipes plus charming, down-home stories!
This is the most entertaining, interesting cookbook I've ever read, second only to the great Pat Conroy's cookbook. And that's a compliment of the highest degree because Pat Conroy is my all-time favorite author, living or dead! Does that tell you how "taken" I am by this book? I generally don't buy a cookbook to "read" it; I buy it to skip around through the recipes, but after reading all the ...

Clovis Crawfish and Batiste Bete Puante (The Clovis Crawfish Series)1 review
Mary Alice Fontenot

Pelican Publishing Company, 1993

Clovis is too cute!
Anyone with an interest in the French language or Louisiana's unique Cajun culture and wildlife would appreciate the adventures of Clovis the Crawfish. This story centers on Batiste the skunk who is teased by the other wetland animals because of his stinkiness. The story teaches the powerful lesson of tolerance and the appreciation of other's differences. Included in the book are many ...

A Time for the Crawfish1 review
John Perry

PublishAmerica, 2005

A time for the crawfish
This is a great book. It is a part of a trilogy that depicts the time and life of the Texas Panhandle. The fiction and real events go side by side and are great. For anyone who wishes to know about the Palo Duro & Cap Rock Canyon area these books are it.

Clovis Crawfish and Etienne Escargot1 review
Mary Alice Fontenot

Pelican Publishing Company, 1979

Charming story of a cooperative effort by Bayou critters.
Clovis and his friends save the day once again by helping Etienne the snail save her eggs. I loved the Clovis series as a little girl growing up in rural Louisiana, and now I enjoy the books for their colorful description of Cajun life. The story is good for children- an example of kindness and working together to help one another .

Clovis Crawfish and His Friends1 review

Romantic New Orleans Menus1 review

Michael P. Davis, M.D., 2008

A note from the author
There are too many new Kindle books that leave me feeling ripped off. Thus, I've inserted this brief note to tell you more about Romantic New Orleans Menus. (What? You expect me to give myself ONE star?!) Romantic New Orleans Menus is a brief book; it contains three menus--fifteen recipes in all--meant to highlight New Orleans's terrific food and, hopefully, make both cook and cook-ee ...

Crawfish Dreams6 reviews
Nancy Rawles

Anchor, 2004

Like good gumbo...
Nancy Rawles is a remarkable talent, weaving an intricate tale of a family of Creoles living in mid-80's Los Angeles, into a delicious literary gumbo. Pretty Miss Camille Broussard is the roux, a strong base around which her family, the Watts "riots," and the dark side of Reaganomics all come to vibrant life. The recipes are a clever little bonus, but the story succeeds purely on its own merits.

Clovis Crawfish and Silvie Sulphur1 review

Cute New Children's Book
Clovis Crawfish is getting ready for bed as the sun sets on the bayou, and the brothers Cigale-de-Bois begin warming up for their wonderful nightly concerto, when a lovely, yellow creature lands on Clovis' mud-house. Clovis quickly realizes that sleep will have to wait. The creature introduces herself as Silvie Sulphur - a member of the family of butterflies - and informs Clovis that she's ...

Crawfish Mountain3 reviews
Ken Wells

Blackstone Audio Inc., 2007

A Wonderful Book about the Great Louisiana Wetlands
Ken Wells takes us into the bayou for a look at a culture rarely seen and too little appreciated, a culture at risk. He has done the nearly impossible: he's written an ecological novel that's beautifully researched and true, and at the same time is funny, heartwarming, and filled with characters you won't easily forget, from the Cajun governor to the venial oil magnate and his mysterious ...
