Crayon Rubbings (Chicken Socks) 5 reviews
Chicken Socks, 2006
Great book for the car I don't understand the previous review about the designs not showing through the pages of the book. I've had two 4-year old boys using it for months without any difficulty. They have only used the plastic pattern sheets with the attached book, never with plain paper. They've all come out well. I would purchase this item again.

Harold at the North Pole (Harold and the Purple Crayon) 3 reviews
HarperTrophy, 2004
Harold Saves Christmas It's Christmas Eve, Harold doesn't have his tree yet and he decides he needs one before Santa arrives. So armed with his imagination and his purple crayon, Harold sets off for the north woods to find the perfect tree. He follows the north star, encounters a blizzard, meets a snowman and continues to "draw" his way to the North Pole. There he finds Santa in trouble. He's snowed in and can't ...

Painting the Landscape in Pastel 13 reviews Albert Handell, Anita West
Watson-Guptill, 2000
New to Pastel and in awe! Though I paint in other mediums, I am new to pastels. This book is the only one I will ever need. The pictures are beautiful and lush. The instructions and explanations are simple to understand. Would heartily recommend this book to new or experienced artists.

Harold's Fairy Tale (Further Adventures of with the Purple Crayon) 6 reviews
HarperTrophy, 1994
2nd best of the series Impossible to beat the original "Harold and the Purple Crayon", this is certainly the next best thing. This story is appealing to a somewhat older child than the original story, as it is a bit more complex. It is better than "Trip to the Sky", which has an odd story line that children do not follow as well. The new books that go with the television series are weak in comparison to the books ...

From Crayons to Condoms: The Ugly Truth About America's Public Schools 11 reviews Steve Baldwin, Karen Holgate
WND Books, 2008
Great look inside our schools From Crayons to Condoms: The Ugly Truth About America's Public Schools is a great look at the horrors being passed as "educational programs" in the United States today. Read this book if you either have a child in Government Schools (no schools are "Public," as we have no say as to what happens in them) or are considering enrolling your child in one; hopefully this will change your mind.
I've ...

The Girl with the Brown Crayon 18 reviews Vivian Gussin Paley
Harvard University Press, 1998
Children reading Leo Lionni's books Paley's purpose for writing this book consists of helping to open our minds to the insights of children. She implies in her writing that we, as adults, can learn from children. Paley wrote about events that took place in her classroom during her last year of teaching. This book has many stories within itself. The theme or topic revolves around the children and how they react to literature and ...

Hand Art (Chicken Socks) (Klutz Chicken Socks) 5 reviews
Klutz, 2005
Great fun for many ages! We love this book. It has 20 different animals/aliens/bugs you can draw all from tracing your hand a certain way. The instructions are helpful and you can easily restock the supplies. All you need is some pompoms and googly eyes, though you can just draw those in if you'd prefer. My 5 year old can do these by herself and my 3 year old needs help. But I think it's fun, they do as well, and ...

HarperTrophy, 1981
We Love Harold ! My son loves to read about Harold's adventures over and over and over again. After Harold, it's Cyrano, a caterpillar failing in school in Life's Little Lessons: An Inch-By-Inch Tale of Successand then Nate the piglet that turns a school upside down when he visits in The Big Squeal: A Wild, True, and Twisted Tail. These books are so wonderful for kid's imagination...and you know what ..I enjoy ...

How to Write a Children's Picture Book Volume II: Word, Sentence, Scene, Story: Learning from Leo the Late ... 3 reviews Eve Heidi Bine-Stock
E & E Publishing, 2006
A must have for picture book writers I was having trouble with rhythm and beats in my picture book writing. This book really helped me learn the beat structure in picture book writing and how they create rhythm. My picture book writing seemed flat and lifeless and now, thanks to this book, it has the rhythm it was lacking. I would also suggest Volumes I and III for other parts of picture book writing. Definitely a must have for ...

Harold's ABC (Purple Crayon Book) 1 review
HarperTrophy, 1981
Fantasic Alphabet Book for Children This book quite cleverly introduces the alphabet A to Z. Each letter is introduced in order and appears as part of the picture associated with it. Descriptive words use the letter, usually starting with it. Text leading to the next page (and next letter) suggests the next letter by using it at the beginning of some words, too. Very cleverly written. I grew up with "Harold and the Purple ...

The Pastelist's Year: Painting the Four Seasons in Pastel 5 reviews Elizabeth Mowry
Watson-Guptill, 2001
One of the very best !! I have read this book twice and some portions three times. I find Elizabeth Mowry to be very sharing and knowledgeable and willing to show you how she achieves certain passages in her paintings. I had been going through a dry period, and this book opened up new worlds for me. I especially liked that she tells you to make small sketches, color sketches and use photographs. All these things were ...

terrific simple ideas to inspire I teach art to elementary students and have used many of the wonderful ideas in this book: making a truck out of an envelope, drawing catepillars, making crayoned paper snowflakes, and a loopy snake paper sculpture(big hit with the students). The price is great for all of the inspiring ideas.

My Crayons Talk 3 reviews Patricia Hubbard
Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), 1999
Rhythmic, Colorful Fun for Children In this title, Patricia Hubbard uses rhythm and fun to introduce colors. Children are quickly reciting the repetitive refrains with smiles on their faces as this book is introduced. G. Brian Karas' illustrations are colorful and imaginative providing good visualizations to Hubbard's imaginative, colorful ideas. The book uses a familiar crayon box to describe things that can be seen or drawn ...
