Excellent!
This book is perfect for the novice. It guides you to the key components for MS Access without all the "techie" language. It also points out informative tips and clues to improve your database. This is specific for 2007, which really does make a difference since the security features have changed dramatically. There is a website for the examples. It is easy to download. The book states you ...

Great book for filling in the blanks
I've had limited exposure to Access before reading this book, and I found it fantastic for filling in the blanks in my knowledge. Access is complicated enough that, for true beginners, it would probably be more helpful to get a book that comes with a CD of examples and walk-throughs. But if you have a handle on the basics, I'd highly recommend this book.

Freakonomics 2: enjoyable survey of interesting research with real-world impacts
Ayres demonstrates how statistical analysis of large datasets is affecting the way the world works in a broad range of applications: credit card companies, sports teams, wine critics, development economists, medical practitioners,* law enforcement agencies, schools, etc. "Freakonomics didn't talk much about the extent to which quantitative analysis is impacting real-world decisions. Great Book, Great Author
I bought this book because I had the opportunity to take a training course by one of the co-authors, Mike Hotek. Mike is an awesome teacher as well as writer. This book had very clear practical examples ranging from how to create a table to replication and database mirroring. I found that if you want to learn the just-above-the-basics of SQL 2005, this book is for you. Even if you don't know ...

A great way to learn the basics
I just worked my way cover-to-cover and did every exercise. Sure, there are some errors in the book and sometimes it is not as clear as I would like and it does help to be a DBA but I think the book is rather above average in its accuracy. The book is not useful as a reference. But I highly recommend it as a great start. If you are not going to download the problems and do the exercises, then ...

Very easy to digest
I made an attempt at working through this book 6 months ago and didn't feel quite comfortable so I dropped it and instead pursued Programming in Haskell. Yesterday I decided to get back into Erlang and found it a complete breeze, powering through the entire book in a few hours. A lot of things seem to become really easy after working with Haskell, not to say that programming in Haskell is ...

dotNet Developer
As a dotNet Developer, I am often called upon to write my own database code or maintain existing db code. I am also called upon to diagnose performance problems or set security. Sometimes on lightly staffed projects, I am a defacto DBA. I have always strived to have a comprehensive understanding of the technologies I use. However, my level of understanding of SQL Server was more limited ...

Good Introduction to Access and the new Ribbon
Access is the most popular database program in the world. The reason is two fold: 1. It's very easy to use. Microsoft has gone to a great deal of effort to make the program fit in with the rest of the Office system so that knowing Word or Excel gives you a good bit of the background you need to use Access. 2. Access is part of the Microsoft Office package, so you probably get it when you ...

PERFECT! AWESOME! Need I say more?
When I went for a job interview a few months ago all I knew about SQL was that it had something to do with databases. When I informed the interviewer I didn't know SQL, the look on his face let me know I was doomed. So as soon as I left that interview I got online and purchased this book determined to learn as much as I can, in an inexpensive way, and quickly. Wow! This book turned out to be all ...

A tool rather than a toolkit
This book delivers exactly what it says. Except that word "toolkit" in its title - you'd better think about this book being a single tool, not a whole toolkit. Ralph Kimball actually has a whole lot of books on data warehousing published, this is one of them, a tool in the toolkit. This one seems like a good starting point to the entire series, and it only shows a single facet - the dimensional ...

A must have resource for all ASP.NET developers!
I've read the author's articles on Code Project, and when I found out he had written a book that built on them, I didn't waste any time getting my hands on it! Being the one of the few developers in my group that work with the latest "cutting edge" technology, and with no one to answer the questions I have, this book has simply been the fountain of knowledge I'd been looking for. Definitely a ...

I've been using FileMaker for almost 20 years and have read most of the books written for this product. The FileMaker Pro Bible stands tall amongst the others. It's extremely well-written with tenacious attention to detail that is quite valuable to developers of all levels. Ray Cologon gently introduces concepts and best practices to the new developer in a manner that encourages thorough ...

Very helpful, well organized text
I opened to Queries, immediately I was able to use what I read in a short time to my work. It's well organized, you can go directly to the chapter of the subject you need to know about. If you don't create tables or databases but just need how to query, you can go directly to that. It's probably the most comprehensive book on Access 2007 out there. I highly recommend.

Unorthodox & Effective Training Method
At first I was a little thrown off by all the images and quips (I guess I'm used to boring, dry guides). After a while I was actually drawn into the book and how it guided me through learning SQL. I must admit that I had a somewhat rudimentary understanding of SQL but after completing the book my queries a sharper & more complex. I do want to put it out there; this isn't really a reference ...

Content Management in Depth
WCM (Web Content Management) is becoming a "hot" item in many MOSS deployments. I should also clarify that this book is focused on WCM as opposed to ECM (Enterprise Content Management), as this seems to be a confusing topic for some. So it is mainly for those looking for working with the publishing infrastructure within MOSS (replacing MCMS - Microsoft Content Management Server), not with the ...

A Massive Book for a Magnificent Framework
Some of the reviews for this book are a little harsh. This is the most complete book on Hibernate on the market. It covers everything, and I mean everything. From mapping to annotations, to whatever, it's in here. An excellent contribution to the "Inside-SQL" series
This is the 2nd book of the 4 part "Inside-SQL" series, with each book I imagine, appealing to a different reader. Having a programming background, I enjoyed this book more than the first in the series ("The Storage Engine"), which on it's own is also an excellent book. As mentioned in other reviews, this book is definitely not for beginners. The authors assumes a basic level of SQL knowledge ...
