The Disappearance48 reviews
J. F. Freedman

Signet, 1999

Freedman is on my list of authors to read!
Wow, this was a really good book. I enjoyed it very much. I got it from my dad, who happened to pick it up at a used book store and read it & passed it on. I definately have Freedman on my fav. authors list now. This book was perfectly paced. I liked the way the story evolved and things slowly crept out. It was a surprise ending for me.

The Year of Disappearances: A Novel6 reviews
Susan Hubbard

Simon & Schuster, 2008

The Year of Disappearances
The Year of Disappearances takes off where The Society of S left us. Ariella Montero faces many trials and mysteries in her quest to find out more about her family and where she belongs in this world. Susan Hubbard has outdone herself in this latest book. Her characters are believable and have depth. The story is riveting, and in parts, quite chilling. She masters the technique of just ...

Gary Renard

Hay House, 2004

disappearing universe
VERY INTERESTING & ENLIGHTNING - WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT EVEN MORE IMPORTANCE IF WRITER HAD NOT INTERJECTED HIS PERSONAL POLITICAL VIEWS WHICH I FELT DETRACTED FROM SPIRITUAL ASPECTS - EVEN WITH THAT NEGATIVE, BOOK COULD BE OF GREAT VALUE TO MANY PEOPLE - BOOK SHOULD BE READ MORE THAN ONCE TO ENSURE A COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF THE WONDERFUL MESSAGE IT CONTAINS - IT'S A WINNER

Ellen Raskin

Puffin, 1989

The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon (I Mean Noel)
This was a fantastic book! It had a little mystery, some fantasy, and some adventure. I couldn't stop reading it! You should definitely read this book because its the best. It gives the phrase "page-turner" a whole new meaning!

The Disappearance of Childhood17 reviews
Neil Postman

Vintage, 1994

The Attacks on this Book are as Weak as the Arguments of the Book are Strong
It is simply untrue to write, as Amazon Reviewer Aaron Swartz writes, that Neil Postman praised the Children's Letters "because they agreed with him". Rather, Postman praised them because they showed by their responses that they valued the declining institution of Childhood, and that they were clearly distressed by the possibilities raised in Postman's Book. Basically, Postman in his book ...

Finding Amelia: The True Story of the Earhart Disappearance16 reviews
Ric Gillespie

US Naval Institute Press, 2006

Fascinating Reading
I first became interested in the Earhart mystery after seeing a National Geographic special on the subject. Wanting to learn more I decided to purchase this book. The main premise of the book is that Earhart crash landed her plane on Gardner Island (south of Howland Island) and for a time survived. This book is fascinating reading because the author spends the majority of the book taking the ...

Photo/Stoner: The Rise, Fall, and Mysterious Disappearance of Surfing's Greatest Photographer14 reviews
Matt Warshaw

Chronicle Books, 2006

Wave After Wave (In The Ocean of Emotion)
There are people in this world...maybe you know a few of them...maybe you are one of them...who don't really seem to fit in with things of this world. They are driven by maddness or inspiration or both and bring forth things to this world that can never be replicated. Such is the art of Ron Stoner. I call his photography art because that is exactly what it is. It captures more than a sport ...

Unsolved Mysteries of American History: An Eye-Opening Journey through 500 Years of Discoveries, ...12 reviews
Paul Aron

Wiley, 1998

A FACT FILLED EASY TO READ TRIP THROUGH HISTORY
I'm not a huge history fan, but on a whim I decided to check out Paul Aron's Unsolved Mysteries of American History. I was most interested in the theories surrounding the Disappearance of the Roanoke Colony. However, before long I found myself immersed in everything from: Did Babe Ruth Call His Shot to Was Amelia Earhart a Spy to Who was to Blame for Pearl Harbor. All in all 30 different US ...

Take Me To Truth: Undoing the Ego21 reviews
Nouk Sanchez, Tomas Vieira

O Books, 2007

The Real Deal!
Rings of Truth all the way through. The description of the (negative) ego logic system -- and the inevitable existential consequences -- is right on the button. Once described, it is much easier to see it for what it is, let it be, and move on. I found myself wondering what our world might be like if we were exposed to such powerful Teachings at about age 10. I felt grateful to have ...

Unsolved Disappearances in the Great Smoky Mountains13 reviews
Juanitta Baldwin, Ester Grubb

Suntop, 1998

New View on My Area
I live in Cherokee, NC, and had heard about people disappearing in the Smokies. When I saw this book in my library, I was surprised to learn somebody had documented the disappearances. I bought it and went to Clingmans Dome for an afternoon of reading and reflection. It was wonderul, and I came away with a new respect for the mountains, and felt great sorrow for those left behind.

The Disappearance of God: A Divine Mystery5 reviews
Richard Elliott Friedman

Little, Brown and Company, 1995

An Outstanding Work
I just finished this book and intend to read it again right away. I found it to be a very powerful work and am disappointed that it does not seem to have a stronger following; this is a real gem that has apparently been lost in the shuffle. Written for both believers and non-believers, Friedman proposes a very interesting framework for understanding man's relationship with God and our place in ...

The Man Who Tried to Save the World: The Dangerous Life and Mysterious Disappearance of an American Hero23 reviews
Scott Anderson

Anchor, 2000

Cuny was a man with a mission !
I read this book a couple of years ago, and just recently reread it. What a fascinating story. For those who are interested in humanitarian crises, and what it takes to make things happen; within the myriad non-governmental organizations and governments as well; this is the book for you. Cuny's CV reads like a laundry list of the disasters (mostly manmade) of our time. Bosnia and Chechenya ...

Nazarene Jewish Christianity: From the End of the New Testament Period Until Its Disappearance in the Fourth ...3 reviews
Ray A. Pritz

Magnes Press, 1992

Messianic Judaism in the Early Centuries
I know of no other book that traces as faithfully and as well documented as this book by Ray Pritz. He quotes the early church fathers, tracing Jewish believers who believed in Jesus until the third century. The Gentile Church did not know how to handle them because they remained Jewish. The Jewish Community did not know what to do with them because they believed that Jesus was their ...

Disappearances10 reviews
Howard Frank Mosher

Mariner Books, 2006

Almost indescribable
I was recommended this book by a friend while climbing Worcester Mountain near Middlesex, Vermont. I grabbed it just before a solo overnight on a section of the Long Trail. The only copy the store had was an autographed (for cover price), but the owner assured me that Mr. Mosher would appreciate my stuffing the book into my pack for a hike in the Green Mountains. I trusted the person who ...

A Series of Unfortunate Events #3: The Wide Window: Or, Disappearance! (A Series of Unfortunate Events)
Lemony Snicket

HarperTrophy, 2007

Dear Reader, If you have not read anything about the Baudelaire orphans, then before you read even one more sentence, you should know this: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are kindhearted and quick–witted, but their lives, I am sorry to say, are filled with bad luck and misery. All of the stories about these three children are unhappy and wretched, and this one may be the worst of them all.If you haven't got the stomach for a story that ...

Father Ernetti's Chronovisor : The Creation and Disappearance of the World's First Time Machine15 reviews
Peter Krassa

New Paradigm Books, 2000

Important Correction
Mr. Dennis Daly's review of Father Ernetti's Chronovisor is misleading and incorrect in that surely it must refer, not to the English-language version of the book (which you have on sale here), but to the original German-language version (Dein Schicksal ist Vorherbestimmt, 1997). The German version devotes only two chapters exclusively to Father Ernetti and his time machine, which is one of the ...
