Forgivingly flawed
Sweet and well written. Easy to read. Loved the characters. There are certainly flaws, but I easily forgave them because I was so engrossed by the story. Like many other reviewers, I was sad it ended and could not stop thinking about it for days after.

There are no coincidences.......
After reading "The Alchemist", I gave the book to both my children. My son has just graduated from college, and my daughter is a sophomore, and in many ways this book distilled a message I have been trying to teach them in one way or another since they were very young. Although the setting and the story is exotic for many of us (the story is about a young Andalusian shepherd boy who leaves ...

Entertaining, yet Serious Introduction to Philosopy
This topical introduction has hundreds of humorous illustrations drawn by the author. Writing in an engaging conversational style, he presents the issues typically covered in introductory courses, but with unusual clarity. I used the first edition several times as the core text for my Introduction to Philosophy class with great success. Those who have read the first edition will miss the ...

A Great Read!
I thoroughly enjoyed both the story and the characters! It was refreshing to meet a dad I actually liked for a change and I loved Moose and his friends. Moose's relationship with his autistic sister Natalie was particularly appealing and the setting (Alcatraz) was a stroke of genius. Highly Recommended!

An Hour of Deep Thought
WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN? was forwarded to me by my daughter while she was attending college. She read it as part of her philosophy course syllabus. At first I thought it too slim of a volume to have substantial philosophical merit. How can the meaning of existence be even broached in one hundred pages? But Thomas Nagel has done just that. Be it read as introductory or review, one can ...

THE Book on Understanding U.S. Financial Health
This book is a great place to start for learning about the long-term crisis the federal government is facing. It is entertaining, with a great narrative style, some fun stories, and tons of informative graphs. Further, it is thoroughly researched, with helpful citations addressing the critical arguments our nation's leaders will face as they try to solve this. It is scrupulously non-partisan and ...

How to get closer to God
I have read many of Phillip Yancy's books. Each of them has helped me in different ways. This book has helped me to understand how I can get closer to God. I often felt like I wasn't worthy to talk to God because of something I did that I wasn't proud of. I have learned that this is the perfect time to talk to God. Wouldn't you go to your earthly father if you needed someone to talk too? Yancey ...

Hmmm I Did'nt Know That Was Abuse....
Hello. I really like the straight forward approach Lundy uses in the book. I had no idea so many behaviors were abusive..until now. The book puts things into perspective. He covers a lot and many circomstanses were not for me, but over all the book was very informative and supportive for the woman who is in an abusive relationship and doesn't know it and for the ones who know and just need to ...

Proves the case!
Most reviewers of Stenger's "God: The Failed Hypothesis" fail to recognize the unique contribution he has made to the logic of the debate. The methodology he uses is different from most of the arguments against God, and it is important to understand this, because his book is a major step forward on this topic. Stenger basically sets out to prove a negative. Although many light-thinking ...

You've seen Karloff, now read the original
Once you read Shelley's classic you're going to scratch your head and wonder: Is this really the book that gave us the Karloff movie? Not to mention Herman Munster and Frankenberry. For over a century and half people have been cannibalizing this book for ideas, movies, other books, and products of every size, shape and type that our modern concept of Frankenstein holds little to no resemblence to ...

The story of how young Arab and Muslim Americans are forging lives for themselves in a country that often mistakes them for the enemy Arab and Muslim Americans are the new, largely undiscussed “problem” of American society, their lives no better understood than those of African Americans a century ago. Worth it if you're ready to make a change.
I bought this book along with his other one "It's All too Much!". I suggest reading the first book, then this one because it sets the ground work and you'll get an understanding of where he's going. It was so freeing to get rid of stuff in my cupboard that "maybe I'll make someday". I had pudding in there that was 10 years old. I then made menus, and did grocery shopping. I made what I ...

Great content - not a durable book, though
Okay, let me get a few things out of the way up front. First off, I generally hate textbooks. I've been in college 6 years and counting, and it's fair to say that most textbooks (regardless of subject) are written and edited in a very clueless fashion. Second, though I have many personal interests in the realm of science (quantum mechanics, string theory, and so on), it's often a major chore to ...

Nice supplement...
I am taking a federal income tax course that uses a textbook which consists mainly of court cases.. and written in hard-to-understand "judicial language". We discuss the cases and go over the problem-solving questions at such a fast pace that sometimes I just blindly jot down notes and try to make sense of them afterwards. This is where the supplementary comes in. The glossary neatly lists the ...

it's "all that and a bag of chips"
This is a demanding high school (or undemanding college) introductory textbook on the subject. Only the most rudimentary algebra is required, and honestly one could easily get through the book without even that. The edition is handsomely printed, with a font that's easy on the eye and plenty of colorful and helpfully-glossed graphs. The chapters themselves are not too long, which helps with ...
