Basic Electricity6 reviews
Bureau of Naval Personnel

Dover Publications, 1970

Great for the beginner or experienced
I have been an Avionics Tech. for 30 years and bought this book for my son-in-law. I have had a copy and used it for years to brush up on sometimes forgoten electrical principals. This book is so good that the aircraft technical schools issue it to aviation mechanics for the AC and DC basics. If you want to understand electricity, motors, generators, AC/DC theory...This book is for you!!!!!

Today's Technician: Automotive Electricity and Electronics (Classroom and shop manual set)4 reviews
Barry Hollembeak

Delmar Cengage Learning, 2006

will get you by..
I purchased this book because it was required for my automotive electronics class.. Although it's a two volume set, a lot of the same information can be found on both books. Never the less, it's a nice book to learn from and use as a reference when trouble shooting electrical circuits. One huge issue though is because it's written with a students perspective in mind the quizzes/questions at ...

Understanding Today's Electricity Business5 reviews
Bob Shively, John Ferrare

Enerdynamics LLC, 2004

Understanding Today's Electricity Business
I work for a utility billing and CIS provider and needed a reference book to enhance my knowledge of our focus industry. This book was great, it covers all relevent topics in good depth from generation to how utilities make money under different business and regulatory models. It is surprisingly easy to read given the dryness of the topic. I highly recommend it.

Electricity Demystified1 review
Stan Gibilisco

McGraw-Hill Professional, 2005

Excellent
It's concise, well ordered, the diagrams were good, and it didn't bore me to read unlike another book on electricity which I am trying hard to read.

Electricity for Refrigeration, Heating, And Air Conditioning4 reviews
Russell E. Smith

Delmar Thomson Learning, 2006

A fantastic refererence for your HVAC/R library
I love the way the author set this book up. You gradually build on what you learn and never really feel that you are being thrown in to hard. The writing is fantastic. Not to difficult in technological terms for the novice and yet levels with the seasoned veteran just right. When you complete a chapter , you are introduced to a " In the field scenario" service call. You imagine yourself at the ...

Teach Yourself Electricity and Electronics, Fourth Edition (Teach Yourself)9 reviews
Stan Gibilisco

McGraw-Hill/TAB Electronics, 2006

A student who really needed a book of this type
Thanks very much for giving such a clear vision of how circuits work. I was really lost in my electronic's class. Your explanations of how voltage, resistance, and current interplay was a big help to me.

A Treatise on Electricity and Magnetism: Volume 1 (Oxford Classic Texts in the Physical Sciences , No 1)7 reviews
James Clerk Maxwell

Oxford University Press, USA, 1998

A classic that still is worth reading
Whenever I teach a course which touches on electric or magnetic phenomena I find myself going through this book. It works well with the early chapters of Jackson, in particular, and Smythe. Maxwell knew the subject thoroughly, up to the 1870s (and much of this material has since dropped out of courses and almost out of memory), his thinking was both profound and clear, and he may well be the ...

Basic Electricity: Revised Edition, Complete Course16 reviews
Van Valkenburgh, Nooger, ...

Prompt (DPI - 8/01), 1995

Recommended
I also own the Bureau of Naval Personnel's "Basic Electricity" and Mike Holt's "Basic Electrical Theory". While I really like Holt's book, and the Bureau's book is a good one, this is one better. Since it was first published in 1954, you may find the illustrations and graphics (did they have "graphics" in 1954?) a bit dated. On the other hand, I think they help explain the concepts very well.

Schaum's Outline of Basic Electricity, 2nd edition (Schaum's Outlines)2 reviews
Milton Gussow

McGraw-Hill, 2006

Good book on the basics for electronics technicians
This is a good book for electronics technicians who want to cover the basics of electricity that they would need in their assembly and test work. The table of contents is not shown for this book so I do that next. An asterisk indicates an entirely new chapter from the previous edition: 1. The Nature of Electricity 2. Electrical Standards and Conventions 3. Ohm's Law and Power 4. ...

Electricity One - Seven (3rd Edition)4 reviews
Harry Mileaf

Prentice Hall, 1998

My all time favorite basic electricity book.
I'm a power plant operator. I've had to take basic electricity courses for job promotions, (after taking a written test). This is the only book written (that my co-workers and I have had to study) that you can learn from on your own. The other books seemed to be written for a classroom setting, with an instructor.

Tab Electronics Guide to Understanding Electricity and Electronics23 reviews
G. Randy Slone

McGraw-Hill/TAB Electronics, 2000

What I've been looking for
In an attempt to begin a new hobby I've been buying books on this subject. Most have left me guessing. This book gives you hands on plus the theory and equations to understand why it works the way it does. Though I have not finished (I am building the project)I understand more about electronics than after completing several projects from other books I've read. If you want to know why, and how, ...

Electricity and Magnetism, Vol. II37 reviews
Edward M. Purcell

McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math, 1984

Logical development with plenty of exercises
A very logical introduction to EM. The author starts only with the conservation of electrical charge and coloumbs law and using basic vector calculus concepts of field and divergence along with stokes theorem he derives maxwells first equation( diff form of gauss law ). He then uses concepts of line integral, potential and gradient and goes on to show how the conservative nature of the ...

Electricity and Basic Electronics2 reviews
Stephen R. Matt

Goodheart-Willcox Co, 1998

Good Basic text, easy to follow.
I am an Electronics Instructor at the Community College level. I have used this book for a number of years as the text in my introduction course. The course is for those who may work a little with electricity/electronics but won't be an electronics technician. The book is laid out in a very readable style, with good examples and problems. I reccommend it as a beginning text for those with an ...
