Counterfeit Gods: The Empty Promises of Money, Sex, and Power, and the Only Hope that Matters35 reviews
Timothy Keller

Dutton Adult, 2009

Audiobook-Counterfeit Gods
I gave this as a gift to my parents. It's hard to find something (on a budget) that they can both use. I selected the audio-CD version so my dad can listen in the car and my mom can listen on her ipod. They both like it so far....and of course, I plan to borrow it eventually :)

Crimes Against Logic: Exposing the Bogus Arguments of Politicians, Priests, Journalists, and Other Serial ...125 reviews
Jamie Whyte

McGraw-Hill, 2004

Excellent book, though a little pedantic in places
I loved this book. It helps you learn to spot some common kinds of faulty logic and reasoning (a bit like watching "Yes Minister" and "Yes Prime Minister" in that respect). The style is a little pedantic and preachy in places, so whether you like it will depend on how tolerant you are of people who are a little pedantic and preachy.

Leading on Empty: Refilling Your Tank and Renewing Your PassionLeading on Empty describes the condition many leaders, including ministers, find themselves in at some point in their lives. The Walk-Out Woman : When Your Heart is Empty and Your Dreams Are Lost8 reviews
Steve Stephens, Alice Gray

Multnomah Books, 2004

Finally a Sensible, Compassionate, Realistic Christian Book on Marriage!
Although I am a Christian, I have not come across many outstanding Christian books on marriage. I tend to find their views unrealistic, sugarcoated, or stereotypical, and their advice either biased or impossible to follow. (Is everything really going to get better if you just decide to submit to your husband more?!) This book exceeded my expectations. First, it has a correct, realistic view on ...

Why I Became an Atheist: A Former Preacher Rejects Christianity46 reviews
John W. Loftus

Prometheus Books, 2008

An Awesome Book
I'm hard pressed to come up with any original comments on this book; the other positive views mostly cover my thoughts. However, I'll press on! I just finished this book on my medieval vacation. What goes better together than a hammock, a great atheist book, incense, wind chimes and a medieval dress? LOL Mr. Loftus is obviously well read, intelligent and thoughtful. He makes many good ...

Empty Cradle, Broken Heart, Revised Edition: Surviving the Death of Your Baby41 reviews
Deborah L. Davis

Fulcrum Publishing, 1996

The best loss book I read after the death of my son
I read so many books after my oldest son died, scouring libraries for the few they had and trying to decide between the myriad options on the internet, and I can honestly say that this was the most helpful one I read. It was very emotional and difficult to read at times and sometimes I had to put it down and come back to it later- sometimes after half an hour, other times after weeks, but I was ...

I was walking in Goodwill and this book jumped out at me!!! I pulled it out and from the title alone, I knew I had to read this book. Every single aspect of my worn out life was touched on in this book. I would highly recommend this book to any worn out women you may know!!!

The Empty Space: A Book About the Theatre: Deadly, Holy, Rough, Immediate13 reviews
Peter Brook

Touchstone, 1995

I guess everybody makes that mistake
The Amazon editorial review by John Longenbaugh says that Peter Brook is a co-founder of the RSC. Uh, no. That would be Peter Hall. Peter Brook became a resident director at the RSC in 1962.

The Empty Envelope (A to Z Mysteries)9 reviews
Ron Roy

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1998

A to Z mysterys of the emtey envelopes
I liked this book. My favorite part was when someone put the five envelopes in the fridge and pretended a dinosaur named Steggy did it. The envelopes had grape finger prints on them. You'll have to read the book to find out who did it! by Charity age 8

Empty Ever After (A Moe Prager Myster)7 reviews
Reed Farrel Coleman

Bleak House Books, 2008

Just terrific
Coleman can take a series farther in fewer books than almost anyone in contemporary crime fiction. Empty Ever After takes the complex life of Moe Prager, a man haunted by multi-generation family problems, and turns it completely upside down. As usual, there is a great plot, which twists and turns in more ways than the reader expects. Two, there is just a great family background in the Prager ...

Empty Womb, Aching Heart: Hope and Help for Those Struggling With Infertility17 reviews
Marlo Schalesky

Bethany House, 2001

Good pick-me-up just when I needed it!
This book is a collection of short stories written by both women and men. I usually pick it back up when I feel like there is no hope for us. Even if children are not in our future, there is always hope. I wanted something written for a Christian household and this was it. I heard of this book on one of the radio stations several years ago when we first tried starting our family. The book ...

Barbara & Susan's Guide to the Empty Nest: Discovering New Purpose, Passion & Your Next Great Adventure6 reviews
Barbara Rainey, Susan Yates

Family Life Publishing, 2008

Barbara & Susan's Guide to the Empty Nest
When my first daughter moved out after high school, I was devastated. I walked around like I had a piano tied to my butt and I cried for hours every time she'd visit. This continued until she moved back in, with boyfriend in tow. When they finally moved out, I was more than ready to let them go. Now my other kids are readying to leave the nest, all at once it would seem. I hate to admit it but I ...

The Alaska Bush Pilot Chronicles: More Adventures and Misadventures from the Big Empty4 reviews
Mort D. Mason

Voyageur Press, 2009

This is Really Flying
Mort Mason's latest, The Alaska Bush Pilot Chronicles, is great reading for anyone, particularly pilots and those who want to be pilots. He captures the side of flying that few today experience; that of the Bush Pilot. We dinosaurs love the memories, and the young pilots will gain appreciation for self reliance and knowledge of their equipment. All pilots love swapping stories about their ...

A to Z Mysteries Complete 26-Book Set (The Absent Author, The Bald Bandit, The Canary Caper, The Deadly ...1 review

fun
My youngest is disabled so finding books that appeal to him-have action and story, but maintain clarity in the story is hard to do--but in this series--it's done well. Thanks!

Together Alone19 reviews
Barbara Delinsky

Avon A, 2009

I was hooked in the first chapter!
I agree with all of the reviewers that loved this book. I couldn't put it down. Definately one of her best. For some reason I struggled with Doug's character and would have liked to have seen more development or resolution between he and Emily. I felt frustrated that he didnt really get what was coming to him. I wanted to see him regret his mistakes nad hoped for it till the very last ...

The Wee Mad Road: A midlife escape to the Scottish Highlands16 reviews
Jack Maloney, Barbara Maloney

Tasora Books, 2008

A Fantastic Adventure
I discovered this wonderful book in a little shop in the remote Northwest Highlands of Scotland; happened to be leafing through it when I found it featured several unforgettable folks I had come to know during past trips to the Coigach peninsula and the little villages of Achiltibuie and Polbain. The adventure the Maloneys lived is the sort of thing many of us dream about but few have the ...

This is one of my most favorite books. I especially love stories that teach a moral lesson and is entertaining. I've read this story to the children in my school. I've also read it to an adult singles class at church when discussing character as an individual and as a parent. Love it...

The Empty Mirror: Experiences in a Japanese Zen Monastery22 reviews
Janwillem van de Wetering

St. Martin's Griffin, 1999

Haunting - years later
My wife gave this to me to read about a decade ago. I wasn't sure what to expect, but found it a fascinating read that kept me thinking and striving to understand throughout. Buddhism is a paradoxical system, and as the reader struggles with it, so did the author as he experienced it. This makes it an excellent and challenging book. However, what really makes it a five star book is that it ...
