Great reference for home or school!
I'm a high school social studies teacher and encountered USBorne books at a teacher workshop. They are very informative and vibrant texts. The internet-linked versions are wonderful. They include numerous links that accessed through the USBorne website, not the book. This allows for dead links to be eliminated and new links to be added (even more than are mentioned in the book). The pictures are ...

Excellent Tool to Review for NCE
Since it has been more than 10 years since I completed my M.A. in Professional Counseling, I was more than worried about how to adequately prepare for the NCE... After taking and passing the NCE, I can NOW say that reading this book from cover to cover (and reviewing certain sections a 2nd time!) made all the difference for me. The Q&A format flowed nicely, and key concepts were repeatedly ...

Best Appellation book around
This is the third edition of this book I have purchased. It only gets better and better. For information regarding appellations, grapes, and wine in general, I prefer this as my number one book.

Great Book to Guide You!
I cannot beleive the amount of information this book contains! The author makes no pretenses. She doesn't claim to know everything. She bases her knowledge on her experiences, letters, & information gathered over the years from others. This massive book is many many years worth of information! It has been updated many times. I'm pretty sure she doesn't leave anything out from the older ...

Keeps my 3 year old at the potty!
I got this book to keep by the toilet (we are potty training). It was a smart move because this book keeps him totally mesmerized and makes him relax. It never gets old because there is so much information in this book for a young mind. It is not cluttered, but seems to be laid out with a child in mind. He particularity likes the castle and knight page. I'm considering getting the other books in ...

Fantastic Reference Book!
This book covers just about everything from "cavemen" to the Iraqi War (updated 2004 edition). The easy to read/understand narratives and the large, colorful illustrations make this book a great reference book for school reports/homeschool. Although we usually read it together, my 8 & 10 year old kids can both read & understand this book. A great resource for any family library.

Klutz, 2007

Hilarious!
My husband and I ran across this book when a friend bought it as a birthday gift for his brother (in his late 20s). We read through it and loved it! It has so many different ideas that are terribly immature, but why do we all need to grow up? Life needs to be fun. We decided to buy it for our nephew who is turning 16. He'll get a kick out of it and have fun doing a bunch of the ideas in ...

Homeschoolers need this book
For homeschooling (and indeed for any child who loves to learn), there are two names to look out for: Kingfisher and Usborne. Like the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia, the Science Encyclopedia forms a core study guide for homeschoolers. The book is divided into ten main sections, which gives you the option of concentrating on a broad topic, and picking out individual subjects within that topic. ...

A wonderful resource for the history students library
Not only does this Encyclopedia look impressive on the bookshelf, but it is quite impressive in content as well. On opening this 400 page hard covered book, it oozes tactfully and beautifully layed out illustrations and photographs from start to finish. This Encyclopedia covers the Mesopotamian World, Ancient Egypt, Ancient, Archaic and Classical Greece and the Roman World giving you historical ...

An Old Favorite
Give this book to a winsome young boy and you might inspire a scientist. I loved this book as a boy and recently bought a copy for my nephew. I read it quickly before wrapping it. Wonderful stories even if they are a little dated. Enjoy!

Easy to Read, Comprehensive Reference for the Lay Person
Lots of pertinent information, clearly presented. The egg discrepancy may be a typo, but as a former proofreader, I'd say it's unlikely a work of this size won't have one or two...Over all, I'm impressed with the accuracy. I particularly appreciate the appendices in the back. The disease-specific prescriptions are great, too.

1st Edition same as 2nd Edition and a lot Cheaper
Buy the 1st Edition and save yourself thirty bucks. It's got the same cover (but a different color), the same number of pages (506 pages) and is as far as I can tell, the exact same book. I'm tired of "edition inflation." Buy the first edition and save yourself a lot of money.

The Marvel Encyclopedia
My son Jarett is 8 yrs old and very much into marvel super heros and especially the villians!!! This book is so detailed and so wonderfully illustrated. We can't believe you can learn so much about one charater in a paragraph or just one page. You will find out things you did not know. For example, what happened to Mary Jane Watsons mother!!!! But the best part is my son carries this huge book ...

Comprehensive & obviously thoroughly researched!
This is an impressive book. It contains a lot of entries that I have never seen documented anywhere else, particularly in regards to obscure shops and shows/parades. A fun feature are the many lists that are sprinkled within the text. This book is obviously a labor of love for the author and will be enjoyed by any fan of the Happiest Place on Earth

Brings the DC Universe to Life
I am a casual DC Comics fan who was much more into comics in my youth. I bought this encyclopedia because I used to enjoy reading "Who's Who," a series in the 80's that featured biographies of DC characters. The cover art on this is striking, done beautifully by Alex Ross. The biographies have all been updated, so it was nice to hear about what my favorite (or obscure) heroes and villians have ...

Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Revised Second Edition40 reviews

Natural Medicine at it's best..
This book is the single most amazing book I have read on medicine and medical conditions. I have many medical books, and although they are quite definitive with regard to illnesses and mostly orthodox medication as a remedy, this book will open your eyes to a whole new world. The medical community does not treat the body holistically, and i do not mean that in a hippyish, spiritual way, but ...
