Beyond "test-prep" and towards "life-prep"
This is a scholarly and accessible book that addresses the need to rethink the education system. It recommends that schools should focus on teaching mental processes through teaching content rather than making content the end goal. The need to facilitate the development of core competencies will prepare our students for a global economy where they will compete with students in and outside the ...

Your child enjoy healthy meals without being duped!
As a former early childhood educator, I was a little dismayed about the trend to sneak healthy foods into children's meals. In my years of working with young children, I found that their palates are much more sophisticated than we know. By preparing a limited menu and keeping them out of the process, parents unwittingly create picky eaters who'll explode at anything but chicken fingers, ...

The Future of Tommorow - Highly Recommended!
Marshall Goldsmith illustrates the concept of focusing the mind on positive ways of thinking. He has provided "20 annoying habits". He has written how they need to be "eliminated"; until your thoughts have been clearly defined. As a reader, I can relate to most of these habits and I have a clear understanding to say "Thank you" when it needs to be said. Highly Recommended to Corporations, Small ...

A book that every man should read.
Some women compare this to Woman thou Art Loosed; however, I see it as more of a open truth about how men feel but don't share. Jakes speaks of his experiences, as well as, compares how other men relate to life's struggles, disappointments and really how not to stay in the pit of feeling horrible from what seems a finality of what they see. Life is a struggle for men and women, but women seem ...

Much more than the title implies.
I purchased Book Yourself Solid because I was interested in expanding my therapy practice. But when I got to the part where the author asked what I would say if someone asked what I did I realized that this is much more about who I am and what inspires me than about selling generic counseling. Instead of saying that I'm a therapist who works with individuals and couples, I'm telling people that ...

Engaging and Challenging Exploration of Belief
As an avid reader of books in this category, I was pleased to find something new in Robert Burton's book: a head-on engagement with the infrastructure of belief. The question Burton asks is on the face of it a simple one, but in its implications extremely complex: how do we know what we know? As a matter of practical observation, Burton asks why are some people so utterly convinced that their ...

Clear & Engaging
I found this book to be a page-turner and a quick read -- just one weekend. This book is exactly what I wanted. Some reviews complain the book is too deep or not deep enough. That it has too much or too little investment advice. I'd say it's just right. The points are well-substantiated, but not boring, and the investment advice is both broad enough to offer options and targeted enough ...

Its Funny
I read this book in my second grade class. This is a funny book. Even Steven likes everything even. Odd Todd likes everything odd. For example, Even Steven would like 8 pancakes and Odd Todd would like 7 pancakes. Even Steven goes through hard work with Odd Todd. Then, Even Steven notices that odd and even are both good. My favorite part was when Odd Todd and Even Steven win their $50 ...

A Christmas gift from one frazzled parent to another.
I got this for my brother, who's a single father to a very "spirited" 17-month old. He loved it, because it provides proof that all children drive their daddies crazy at some point or another, and that it's okay to need to step back and enjoy the humor of the situation.

Good suspense read.
DEAD EVEN is the third in the series by Mariah Stewart. Even though DEAD WRONG and DEAD CERTAIN are complete in themselves, this one ties up all the loose ends and in a most satisfying way. Miranda Cahill is the lead agent on this investigation. She is teamed with Will Fletcher who has been her significant other off and on for 6 years. Two years ago they had drifted apart and neither knows how ...

Parlay your IRA into a family fortune
This book shows you basically two options. Give most of your tax deferred assets to the government after you and your wife's death, or set it up so your kids and/or grandchildren get it. It is amazing how many financial and legal types that I have shown this too that didn't know about Stretch IRA's. Great book to teach you how to keep your hard earned dollars in the family instead of sending ...

After checking ARTHRITIS: WHAT EXERCISES WORK out of the library for the third time in a year, I broke down and bought it. It's terrific. The exercises are tied to specific joints, ranging from the small, fingers and toes, on to shoulders, hips, knees, etc. Some you can even do in bed, but many are much more challenging--there is a range. Doing these for just a couple of weeks increased my ...

Not a man, but I LOVE this cookbook for our family
So I bought these cookbooks for my husband on his days to cook (yeah right) and I'm really impressed with them. There are some GREAT recipes in this book series that aren't too bad health wise. I've actually used some of the recipes and they came out really tasty. Hubby even was able to make one and follow the easy recipe no problem. Highly recommended!
