Rise of Modern China 4e Export Ed Only15 reviews
Hsu

Oxford University Press, 1997

Reviewing The Rise of Modern China
This book by Immanuel Hsu used to be my school text 23 years ago! Now in its 6th Edition, I must say is an excellent piece of work. However, there are still certain words which are wrong, for eg, page 100, 2nd Paragraph, "...He was "found" of Adma Schall von Bell, whom he appointed..." The word should be FOND and not "found".... I have detected several similar errors in the book.... ...

With regard to the meaning and significance of the title, Mahajan and Banga explain that 86% of the world has a per capita gross national product (GNP) of less than $10,000 per year. So what? Not only do those markets represent the future of global commerce; "they also present rich opportunities for companies that have the imagination and creativity to envision [consumers within those markets]. ...

Voyage of the ''Frolic'': New England Merchants And the Opium Trade7 reviews
Thomas N. Layton

Diane Pub Co, 1997

In a class all its own
Oddly enough, our book group chose Voyage of the Frolic and what great fun and an education it has been. I've always dreamed of going on an archeological expedition and here, without the dirt, pan, screens and brushes, I've discovered another layer of the past. What an eclectic history California has.

Commanders (Export)15 reviews
Woodward

Pocket, 1991

Excellent!
This book starts at the beginning of the GHW Bush Administration and goes through to the very beginning of the Gulf War. It's always a little difficult to know how accurate Woodward's recountings are of conversations and inner-thoughts of the most important people, but there are rarely serious complaints about the accuracy of his books - at least as far as I am aware. For the most part, the ...

Masaaki Kotabe, Kristiaan Helsen

Wiley, 2001

A modern, analytical textbook on global marketing
I teach Global marketing and I think this textbook is the best. It is not full of anecdotal stories about global marketer's failures or successes but very analytical with straightforward methods students can try out. The cases are excellent and support the theorical lectures very good. From my experience with the research literature it is state of the art.

Clive Cussler

Pocket, 1992

One of the best family sagas
Adam Swann has followed his family's tradition of military service for long enough to turn 30. He's seen a lot during those years, including a horrific massacre of civilians. When chance places a fortune in rubies in his hands, he's more than ready to make drastic changes. Back to England he goes, the England of a world just prior to the American Civil War, looking for a better way to spend his ...

The War for Wealth: The True Story of Globalization, or Why the Flat World is Broken9 reviews
Gabor Steingart

McGraw-Hill, 2008

Look Into the Future!
Steingart believes we spend too much time worrying about places like Kabul and Baghdad, and not enough thinking about places like Shanghai. "The War for Wealth" then details that case. Steingart also contends that the true tale of globalization is not being told - it is anything but a win-win situation. By 2025 China and India will likely dominate the world market with their purchasing power. ...

Good Text on Globalization
If you're looking for a detailed book on globalization that has the qualities, depth, and approach of a college textbook, here it is. The book was written by two professors who met, and discovered a synergy for writing, while they were students at Harvard. Branding in Asia: The Creation, Development, and Management of Asian Brands for the Global Market4 reviews
Paul Temporal

John Wiley & Sons, 2000

exceeded my expectations wonderfully
My expectations were mainly about redressing the balance on geographical origins of brand case studies. Our literature suffers from being far too US centric. This imbalance is unfortunate for several reasons including: - living in the US for the last 2 years has taught me how atypical the US consumer is of any other I have met in 25 countries that I have worked - from the oldest brand models ...

Successful Fundraising: A Complete Handbook for Volunteers and Professionals5 reviews
Joan Flanagan

McGraw-Hill/Contemporary, 1991

Great book!
I'm not a professional fundraiser, but I plan to become involved in nonprofits, and this book was great! I know of some nonprofits that get all of their money from corporate donations and then complain about not having enough money. This isn't the way to do it, according to Ms. Flanagan. In order to be a successful fundraiser, you need to ask, ask, ask, and you need to provide many different ...

It's way too ...

Credibility and the cost of export subsidies (IMF working paper)5 reviews
Alexander Hoffmaister

International Monetary Fund, Research Dept, 1991

Epitomy of Simple Comfort Food which Tastes Good. Buy It!
`Nigel Slater's Real Food' and `Real Cooking' by Nigel Slater (name above the title, of course) are two great expositions on the real joy of cooking. Slater characterizes his point of view in the motto to `Real Cooking' as `There is too much talk of cooking being an art or a science - we are only making ourselves something to eat.' With this sentiment, Slater dismisses the Shirley Corriher / ...

The New Silk Road: Secrets of Business Success in China Today6 reviews

Valuable Case Histories to Build a Better Business in China
Almost everyone who knows little about China is enthralled by the opportunity to sell products to all those people who live there. Those with a little more knowledge also get excited about having products made for export from Mainland China. Those with still more knowledge look forward to outsourcing services to China. Beyond that, some speculate that Mandarin Chinese will even become the ...
