Sixty Minute Turn Around!
Wow! What an outstanding book! As the best selling author of numerous books and a nationally known consultant paid to hire top performers, I'm amazed at the incredible value packed into this short book. Springer wastes no time in providing a clear, concise explanation of a simple but effective selection process. He hammers you on the need to analyze your culture and values when hiring at all ...

Honest and Insightful
Great book! I found it honest, to the point and there was no fooling around about the emotions and the reality of this war. I, for one, appreciate that.

Good overview, heavy in IT & scheduling
This risk management book provides a good overview of the risk management process from start to finish, and provides examples from technical projects. The text guides the reader through the three steps of risk identification, assessment, and management, and discusses the difference between macro-management of risk at a corporate or portfolio level, and micro-management of risk at the project ...

Great & Comprehensive Practical Review
Unlike many academic books, this is a practical analysis of distressed debt, the bankruptcy process, and all the related financial, accounting and valuation issues that arise in this context. It is well written and well organized. Some other books on the topic go into significantly more detail in esoteric issues; however this book is a must for a grounded detailed understanding of the topic. ...

I was blessed to know Willard Beecher
I first read this book 30 years ago. I am still reading it! Its' words cut like a two edge sword through all self delusion. It helps to bring the reader back to a realistic, "doable in the now" approach to life. I don't think I've ever read another book that was such a bitter pill for my ego and yet the positive effects on my life are still occuring. I knew Willard and he embodied the ...

A baby is almost guaranteed if you read this book
If your best friend was a book it would be this one. Dr Beer describes in easy to understand words how the immune system can go into overkill in some women. The result is miscarriage, IVF failure and infertility. But these outcomes can be prevented with the right tests and treatments. I read this book and found it technical when necessary but with lots of human interest stories and studies to ...

Strings see things sideways.
Woit has written a very good book! Having studied strings since their inception (following on the duality work of Veneziano in 1968, and then many others) my work fortunately took a different path... The unique position that now appears is that of one who knows what strings are all about, but who enjoys seeing how long it'll take the rest of the physics fraternity to catch up - this claim is ...

Breaks new ground
I am pleased that there is a new book dealing with chronic renal failure and transplantation. Psychological issues tend to get ignored; therefore, this book fills a need. This book may be useful for patients and support groups as well as physicians, surgeons and perhaps nurses. I found the transcripts interesting as we deal with similar patients in my work as a transplant coordinator. I ...

History At It's Best
History has two definitions: a chronological record of significant past events, and a story. Sheldon Stern's story of the Cuban Missile Crisis is history (both definitions) at its best. The scholarly, time-consuming, and meticulous research that went into this work abounds throughout its pages. The author's willingness to challenge earlier historical works on the translation of the crisis's ...

May be the funniest book I've ever read
A friend and I stumbled across this book in a Barnes & Noble three years ago, and though we opened our copies to different pages, we both started laughing so hard we were doubled over, and we couldn't get to the cash register fast enough. I let people borrow my copy occasionally, but only for short times and after extracting a promise to care for it. Erik Moe captures *everything* about the ...

Required Reading for the Embattled Entrepreneur
Failure among the ambitious, upwardly mobile, educated and intelligent of our modern, industrialized society often comes across as being more devastating, more defining, and more frightening than it actually is. What in actuality defines us is not the number of our failures, but how we deal with our failure, how we look upon it, and most importantly, how we either use our failure or allow our ...

How to Cheat at IT Project Management

Deceptive title, good tradition management book
This is a solid work on traditional IT project management. I'm not really sure what the whole cheating thing is about. This is the basic IT project management book written in a text book style (questions at the end, checklists, etc.) There is information on politics, team management, managing and tracking implementation and more. It's more holistic than most of the books I've read on this ...

Sociologist Compares Christianity to Islam
Schmidt writes this perspective on Islam from a sociologist's perspective also viewing it somewhat from the viewpoint of history and theology. He convincingly shows that the current view of Islam's history and beliefs compared with Christianity's is somewhat distorted and untrue. He aspect by aspect shows how today's world is not shown the entire breath of Islam's past and current cultural ...

A Critical Look in the Mirror
During the early 1980s, Tom Peters and Robert Waterman penned a business classic named In Search of Excellence. In it, they cited 62 "excellent" companies. Many, including Sears, Xerox, IBM and Eastman Kodiak, have faced serious problems since. Some recovered; some struggle to recover. Some are dead; others soon will be. Although the word "institution" implies permanence, Jagdish N. Sheth ...

Great Study Guide for Certification
I used this book at a study guide for the nursing certification test in 2000. I passed with flying colors. It is comprhensive and to the point. There wasn't a subject in the test that was not covered in this book as well. This book is a much easier read than the ANNA curriculum. If you are looking to study for the CNN or CDN then look no further.

There Was No "Intelligence Failure"
An outrageously good book! George Allen offers us a look into the notoriously secretive world of intellence analysts. What is stunning is that just as I suspected, there was no "failure" on the part of the Intelligence Community in Vietnam. The CIA predicted, prior to US involvement, that we could not stop the spread of Communism in Vietnam. As far back as the Indochina War, intelligence ...
