Femininity Lost and Regained3 reviews
Robert A. Johnson

Harpercollins, 1991

A Great Book
The book challenges many male conceptions. I love his quote of Creon, "Go then, and share your love among the dead, We'll have no woman's law here, while I live." This in response to Antigon's, "My way is to share my love, not share my hate." The book is helpful in understanding the male/female situation (in as much as it can possibly be understood!).

Femininity and Domination: Studies in the Phenomenology of Oppression (Thinking Gender)4 reviews
Sandra L Bartky

Routledge, 1990

an essential read to help understand human relations
though i first read this book for a class, i have since turned to it many times. ms. bartky has a clear grasp on the dynamics of relations between men and women not only on the basic level of how we treat eachother, but on the intimate level of how we treat ourselves. this is a must read not only for feminists, but for anyone who has ever wondered why men and women are treated differently in ...

Conscious Femininity: Interviews With Marion Woodman (Studies in Jungian Psychology By Jungian Analysts)2 reviews
Marion Woodman

Inner City Books, 1993

A wonderful place to start reading Marion Woodman
Five years ago, listening to a group of remarkable women discussing the ideas of someone named Marion Woodman, I was intrigued. I wanted to read her work. Where should I start? Everyone in the group recommended that I start with Conscious Femininity. It is a wonderful introduction to the ideas found in her other books. In the interviews that make up Conscious Femininity, Marion Woodman ...

Femininity (Paladin Books)5 reviews
Susan Brownmiller

Hunter Publishing+inc, 1986

It's About Time
I felt so relieved reading this. Finally there's a book that expresses my feelings about this "femininity" box I stuffed myself into in years past. It's a shame that women have to be so narrowly defined by shallow attributes. Personally I know for example that my feet won't fit into those pointy high-heeled girlie shoes and that I have much more important things to do with my time than ...

Set-Apart Femininity: God's Sacred Intent for Every Young Woman14 reviews
Leslie Ludy

Harvest House Publishers, 2008

Truly Life Changing
I'm so excited to be able to share how unbelievable this book is. For the first time my eyes were opened to how selfish and self-seeking my life has been. So many of us live with a deep core of self-centeredness without even realizing it! Leslie challenges the reader in a way I've never seen, and she presents truth in a bold, confident manner. So many young women don't have strong, sold out, ...

Feminism, Femininity and Popular Culture1 review
Joanne Hollows

Manchester University Press, 2000

Fashion and feminism--more compatible than we imagined
Hollows has produced a cutting-edge feminist analysis of feminine popular culture including such topics as fashion and beauty practices, women's film, etc. that were regarded by many second-wave feminists to be more "feminine" than "feminist". Hollows has re-examined the feminine/feminist dichotomy to explore how they have been constructed as competing or opposing social pressures. She is ...

Femininity and the Physically Active Woman (Women and Psychology)
Precilla Y Choi

Routledge, 2000

Femininity and the Physically Active Woman explores one reason many women offer for their lack of involvement in sport and exercise-that they are not the 'sporty' type. Precilla Y.L. Choi argues that the 'sporty' type is masculine. To determine how this notion might affect women's self-perceptions, she critically examines the experiences of women athletes, bodybuilders, recreational exercisers and girls' physical education. What emerges is ...
