The Very Best of Fingerstyle Guitar: 25 Songs Arranged for Solo Guitar in Standard Notation and Tablature4 reviews

Hal Leonard Corporation, 2003

The Very Best
I really enjoy playing the arrangements in this book. The arrangements are in the intermediate to advanced levels. You have to move your fingers up and down the fretboard. I love the arrangement for Romance; fairly easy to play but sounds so beautiful. This book is worthy of purchase and will give you lots of playing time. Whoever arranged these pieces did an excellent job!!

The Art of Solo Fingerpicking : How to Play Alternating-Bass Fingerstyle Guitar Solos (book and CD) (Guitar ...10 reviews
Mark Hanson

Accent on Music, 1988

Best Lesson Book I have ever purchased
Many of the other reviews have said it first, but Mark Hanson has created an excellent series of finger picking lesson books. The Art of Solo Fingerpicking is an intermediate fingerpicking book. If you can only strum a few chords or are new to fingertyle, start off with Mark's The Art of Contemporary Travis Style Picking first and then come back to this one. The exercises (in both books) ...

Mel Bay Easy Celtic Solos for Fingerstyle Guitar Book/CD Set4 reviews
Lisle Crowley

Mel Bay Publications, 2001

Great intro for fingerstyle guitar!
This book requires a very basic knowledge of tuning and playing a guitar. No instructions are given for "learning" how to play a guitar. But once you have the basics down, the instructions and tabs are very easy enough to work through. Lisle has 2 or 3 levels of fingerstyle difficulty (beginner, intermediate, advanced) within each song, so once you have the easiest version down, you can grow into ...

Fingerstyle Guitar7 reviews

Centerstream Publications, 2002

Fingerstyle guitar
Ken Perlman packs a gig bag-full of fingerstyle guitar into this book. While it definitely targets novice fingerstyle players, it is not a book for those just beginning to play the guitar. Although Perlman introduces tablature, he assumes the player can read standard notation and already has a good knowledge of the fingerboard. Also, because much of fingerstyle is based on movable chord ...

Once again Master Guitarist and Instructor Mark Hanson makes melodic intricate sounding guitar pieces accessible to those of us struggling to earn our "intermediate" stripes...Mark breaks down the tunes into digestable bites and gives you the skill building exercises you need to be successfull playing his arrangements of these tunes...and as always his arrangements are lush, rich sounding and ...

Mel Bay Learn To Play Fingerstyle Solos for Ukulele3 reviews
Mark Kailana Nelson

Mel Bay Publications, Inc., 2006

Excellent book and excellent customer service from provider
I bought this book for my son-in-law who married my daughter, a Hawaiian native. He loves it and has already begun to work through its pages. This, and the other books on Ukelele theory and practice are working out great for him. I am very glad I read his Amazon wish list and purchased this and other books for him by this author.

Fingerstyle Blues Songbook: Learn to Play Country Blues, Ragtime Blues, Boogie Blues and More4 reviews
Steve James

String Letter Publishing, 2005

Expand your repertoire
I'm an intermediate finger picker and I bought this book to learn a few more songs. There are 15 arangemets ranging from country, piedmont, Texas, delta and slide in standard and open tunings. It contains some easy songs that I could play almost immediately and some more challenging ones that I'm still working on. The CD was very helpful as it has each song played twice: once full speed with sung ...

Beginning Fingerstyle Blues Guitar (Book and Audio CD) (Guitar Books)35 reviews
Arnie Berle, Mark Galbo

Amsco Publications, 1993

This beginner loves it
I may be in the running for the world's lowest quotient of native guitar playing talent. I took lessons for a couple of years and practiced regularly and was always frustrated. I pretty much gave up for the last 5 years. Then about 6 months ago I bought Beginning Fingerstyle Blues Guitar and am now enjoying the guitar the way I origionaly thought I would. I still have a screwy connection between ...

Antonio Carios Jobim for Fingerstyle Guitar2 reviews
Antonio Carlos Jobim

Hal Leonard Corporation, 1998

Good basic guitar tabs for Jobims essential compositions
This is really an excellent little book, and for any intermediate level guitarist who wants to learn some Jobim tunes, this is the probably best place I have found to get started. What is really nice about this particular book is that each piece is very playable once you master the basic rhythm and the fingerings, but the arrangements are not in any way simplified. They remain very true to the ...

Doug Young

Mel Bay Publications, Inc., 2008

Understanding DADGAD is a complete introduction to using the DADGAD tuning for fingerstyle acoustic guitar. The book systematically explores the tuning, starting with simple chords and scale patterns, ultimately showing how DADGAD can be used to play in nearly any key and in many different musical styles. Mel Bay Duck Baker's Fingerstyle Blues Guitar 1011 review
Duck Baker

Mel Bay Pubns, 2004

Great tunes, with some useful theory
The title for this book is a little misleading - there is nothing "101" or basic about this book. But it does contain some terrific and challenging blues and blues based fingerstyle solos. Seriously, this will keep even an advanced guitarist busy for some time. There is a very useful chapter on theory as it applies to fingerstyle blues guitar, and other discussions scattered throughout the ...

Power Plucking: A Rocker's Guide to Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar
Dale Turner

Musicians Institute Press, 2008

If you're a rock player and the world of acoustic fingerstyle has always seemed foreign and hard to grasp, have no fear. Power Plucking teaches the technique from a purely pop-rock standpoint. You won't waste your time here learning classical pieces you don't want to know. This book concentrates on the type of riffs you've heard from all your favorite artists, including Jimmy Page, James Taylor, Elliott Smith, John Frusciante, Eric Clapton, Jeff ...

Mel Bay's Celtic Encyclopedia: Fingerstyle Guitar Edition2 reviews
Glenn Weiser

Mel Bay Publications, Inc, 1999

interesting collection for intermediate guitar
The Celtic Encyclopedia is an interesting collection of traditional Irish pieces, mostly one page long - some a little longer. (Yes, it does have a version of "Danny Boy") Many are arranged from harp music, which works quite well, and most of them are quite obscure (at least to me). There aren't any "melody line" pieces - they all seem to be well rounded, with interesting harmonies that allow ...

Beginning Fingerstyle Guitar (Book & Cd) (Complete Fingerstyle Guitar Method)4 reviews
Lou Manzi

Alfred Publishing Company, 1996

Perhaps the best book on the subject ever...
I've experimented with both classical and flamenco guitar over the years, but when I discovered this series of books 1 - 3 on contemporary-fingerstyle guitar, I knew that I'd finally found my niche. The notation and tab are first-rate with helpful fingering notation for the beginner. There's plenty of theory and a wealth of techniques, tips and tricks to make sure that the would-be guitarist ...

Mel Bay Tommy Emmanuel Fingerstyle Guitar Method2 reviews
Tommy Emmanuel

Mel Bay Publications, 2004

Fingerstyle Guitar
I prefer Mark Hanson's fingerstyle guidebooks better. This book does not explain enough about finger-picking methods and it may not be easy for newbies who aspire to be Tommy Emmanuel overnight. Fans of Tommy and guitarists who are already proficient with fingerpicking styles will find this book more enjoyable.

Mark Hanson's Fingerstyle Christmas Guitar: (Book & CD)12 Beautiful Songs & Carols for Solo Guitar10 reviews

Alfred Publishing Company, 1999

Whoohoo Christmas, Here we come!!!!!
Wow........ Yes, now this is just great. You know it's always worth buying a book if 1 song is great... There are a couple of Great Arrangements from Mark Hanson in this book. You better be ready though if you start the 4 more challenging songs from this book because they are very difficult for most people. Mark Hanson has some difficult ways of playing some of the chords. I even had to ...

Advanced Fingerstyle Guitar2 reviews

Centerstream Publications, 2003

I would have given it 10 stars
I am a very lazy person so for me to write a review is saying a lot about a book. I would not be writing this unless I did not think that this book was great. "Advanced Fingerstyle Guitar" is a book for the ages...it has everything that a fingerstyle guitarist could want. This book is not for the total beginner. If you are an intermediate player this book should be challenging but not too bad ...
