Forensic Art and Illustration102 reviews
Karen T. Taylor

CRC, 2000

Fascinating and invaluable!
Even if you have no sculpting talent whatsoever, this book is an engrossing read and a valuable reference for any crime or mystery writer. Karen Taylor has consulted for such hit TV shows as CSI and BONES and she definitely knows what she's talking about. The text is lucid and engaging and not at all intimidating, while the photos and diagrams alone are worth the price of admission!

Forensics For Dummies10 reviews
Douglas P. Lyle

For Dummies, 2004

Forensics made easier
This book is great for anyone who is interested in the forensic field, or anyone who is just interested in how the whole process works. It breaks the timeline down and the tools used to solve the crime. It also has a great section in the back, that tells you about 10 famous crimes and how they were solved. I loved reading this book. It is a must have for any future CSI's.

D P Lyle

Writers Digest Books, 2008

Just because you don’t have all the tools and training of a full-time medical examiner, doesn’t mean you can’t learn your way around a crime scene. In Forensics, award-winning author and TV show consultant D.P. Sugared & Spiced 100 Monologues for Girls: Monologues for Girls7 reviews
Mary Depner

Jelliroll, Inc, 2007

Sugared and Spiced, 100 Monologues for Girls is excellent!
The suggestion in the Foreword about creating a personal back story is sophisticated and critical. Much of acting is communicating beyond the meaning of the words. I also like the focus on young women. For starters, I think it would be difficult to get a young guy to participate in monologues with the same fervor as girls. Secondly, I feel Mary Depner, an experienced former drama teacher, reveals ...

Tracking--Signs of Man, Signs of Hope: A Systematic Approach to the Art and Science of Tracking Humans7 reviews
David Diaz

The Lyons Press, 2005

An excellent book heavily focused on military tracking
This book is primarily focused on the needs the military tracker, and that is the author's background. It does, indeed, attempt to present a systematic approach to the subject and largely succeeds. Although I am primarily interested in civilian search and rescue tracking, I found a lot to learn and consider in this book. An excellent complement to this book is "The SAS Guide to Tracking" by Bob ...

Thank You for Arguing: What Aristotle, Lincoln, and Homer Simpson Can Teach Us About the Art of Persuasion23 reviews
Jay Heinrichs

Three Rivers Press, 2007

Use this kind of argument in your marriage.
When couples come to me for marriage counseling, they typically violate Heinrichs' most elementary principles. After reading this book, I realize that an important aspect of my counseling has been teaching rhetoric--the art of polite arguing. For most couples, the idea of arguing politely seems like a joke or at least a myth until they learn to do it. The book will help with your ...

Forensics: The Winner's Guide to Speech Contests5 reviews
Brent C. Oberg

Meriwether Publishing, 1995

A wonderful insight in speech competitions
This book provides all the basics to winning forensics competitions. It provides information on nearly every event, excluding CX and LD debate. I found it to be very helpful for constructing winning oratories and extemp speeches. This is a great beginning to winning your events, although most of the winning part is still up to you.

A Guide to Forensic Testimony: The Art and Practice of Presenting Testimony As An Expert Technical Witness8 reviews
Fred Chris Smith, Rebecca Gurley Bace

Addison-Wesley Professional, 2002

Leads through a legal minefield
After reading this book - more than once, I might add, I came away with a few impressions: (1) Law and the legal domain are as logic-driven as the IT profession for which this book is written. (2) What may make perfect common sense to a non-legal professional is not necessarily in line with the legal view. (3) The scope of this book goes far beyond how to present forensic testimony as an IT ...

Dr. Katherine Ramsland, Ph. D. has authored an excellent treatise on the subject of The C.S.I. Effect Ramsland described the C.S.I. Forensic Science of CSI18 reviews
Katherine M. Ramsland

Berkley Trade, 2001

Behind the scenes...the real forensic science info --fibers, hair etc
We loved this book-- on the back cover it asks about a half dozen questions like -- "how can a pair of glasses suggest murder rather than suicide?" and others-- and then goes on to explain how forensic scientists arrive at their final conclusions using all kinds of methods and analysis. The auhtor has a masters degree in forensic psychology and has published 15 books incuding biographies of such ...

The Art and Science of Child Custody Evaluations2 reviews
Jonathan W. Gould, David A. Martindale

The Guilford Press, 2007

Great addition to the field
Back in the dark ages, a psychologist hired by one parent or the other in a child custody case could just waltz into court and give a subjective clinical opinion. Thankfully, that is no longer the case. Such a psychologist might be legally barred due to inadequate training or experience, or might face legal action by the other parent. Back in 1998 (and revised last year), Jonathan Gould wrote a ...
