Fantastic!!!!
This is truly a fantastic book, easy to follow for a gardening novice like me. I had no idea so many wonderful fruits, veggies, etc. could be grown in containers on my balcony and now I've got a nice crop of strawberries ripening, flourishing tomato and squash plants, different kinds of basil, mint, chives, pansies, dwarf sunflowers--you name it. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested ...

Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving: 400 Delicious and Creative Recipes for Today
If you buy only one book on home canning/preserving, this is the one! I checked out every book at the local library; browsed bookstores and website publications. The recipes are great...love the variations for using the minimum of sugar for canning fruits etc. Instructions on canning/preserving are very clear and precise. Side notes on the recipes tell you why a particular technique is best ...

The book that changed my perceptions
Upon my hubbie's recommendation I read your book: Banana, The fate of the fruit etc. Brilliant! I never imagined that bananas had, and still have, so much influence on America's life. I recommend the book to everybody and is going to become my favorite gift to give to friends. Every time I go to the market I cannot look at produce in general (or even coffee, meat, cheese etc) without ...

Gettig back to basics of gardening
Excellent book. Well written. As a gardener for over 40 years using many different methods depending on the type of crop, I even picked up some new ideas. Recommend for those who have not started a garden plot and need to know how to begin with the removal of sod and laying in of the first bed.

great resource even if it's not exhaustive
When I was growing up, my family and extended family bought vegetable and flower seeds every year. I always wondered why we didn't keep any of the seeds to plant the next year instead of buying more. I didn't realize that the seeds of these hybrid varieties would not germinate and produce plants. It's hard to be self-sufficient and self-reliant when you are dependent on seed companies for next ...

I'm inspired
Well researched and considered. Thorough, yet practical and attainable. I appreciated learning about all the different types of root cellars and how to build them. Previous to reading this book, a root cellar to me was and expensive underground project with stairs and cement walls and electricity. Until I can afford that we can inexpensively create/build/dig the other options.

The College Course for Gardening!
Eliot Coleman is a superb author and teacher. This little book would inspire anybody to grow their own, stash and enjoy the larder of their labor and give humor along with it all! I also bought his other book on Organic Gardening and it's also very informative.....they go hand in hand and I feel like I've taken a biological study in the basics - right down to the tools! A great read...

The Chosen:Understanding
in reading "The Chosen" i was very pleased with the book. The plot was very touching as we saw the boys (Danny and Reuven) grow from the grounds of a baseball field to the advanced college campus. Their friendship was very strong and was normally able to overcome most obstacles...except for the silence that Danny and Reb Saunders had between them. Mr. Malter brought Rueven up in talking, so ...

Awesome Resource for Support!
This is tne most informative, well put together publication on Juice Fasting I've yet to see. It was a tremendous help to me on my most recent fast which lasted 12 days! I would recommend this thumbs up for anyone considering either a long term or a short term juice fast. Filled with all sorts of useful information on various situations one comes across while fasting. I've even stocked a bunch ...

Changes everything!
I am almost finished with the book but I have already tried 80/10/10 for a few weeks, having learned the basics. I was a 100% raw eater for for about 7 months. Although raw was good for me I was still getting tired, had trouble taking off weight (actually put unwelcome weight on) , also my face wasn't showing the full benefits of eating raw. Since trying Dr Grahams 80/10/10 I have had ...

Great study book for a group
My husband and I used this book to do an almost year long study with our house church group a few years ago. We did a chapter a week and had discussions and worked through the Points to Ponder and Questions together. Probably time to revisit this book I think! Definitely one you can do over and over again

Almost perfect
This book tells you everything about growing grapes and producing fine wine. It even deals with the choice of grape-varieties suited for your climate. It is almost perfect. I think many Europeans will read this book, and it would have been perfect if it included the Meditteranean countries in the tables of climate-zones and selection of suitable varieties. It is very difficult to find this ...

Well designed, beautiful book, not to mention extremely informative
Visually, this book is impeccable. The food stylist, graphic designer, and photographer have done a fantastic job of showing the fruits and vegetables in an appealing and stimulating way, sliced and angled just so. The typography and look of the book is probably one of the nicest on my shelves. But it's not just a good coffee table book. Most importantly, it contains enough detailed information ...

The Backyard Orchardist: A Complete Guide to Growing Fruit Trees in the Home Garden
Extremely helpful! Just moved to a new home and wanted to start my plants off right. This book helped me not only in the selection of my plants, but where on my property it is best to plant them, and how to properly plant them. I also learned the correct ways of pruning and fertilizing each plant. I have found this book to be an invaluable tool to a begining backyard gardener.

Not a book for "casual backyard gardening"
The people who are disappointed with this book are the ones who bought it without understanding what it was. This book isn't a "gardening for the soul" book of fluff, nor is it a typical "how to get bigger tomatoes" text. What this book is is a compendium of information on growing as much food as possible for real, live people to eat. Yes, it delves into the science and discusses the big, ...

Makes Me Want To Eat Fruit!
First of all I have to say that I'm not a big fruit eater. I like the taste of most fruits, but the ones I buy in the supermarket are waxy, bland, and have textures that don't correspond to how I think the fruit looks. I was reading an early posting of the Sunday New York Times book review last week and I came across Mary Roach's review of this book. The review was so outstanding that it ...

This book is great for the the novice. It covers soup to nuts (literally)!! After my first (successful!) attempt at canning tomato sauce and pickeling zucchini, I wanted to get more out of my garden.
