GPU Gems 33 reviews
Hubert Nguyen

Addison-Wesley Professional, 2007

A five star book for advanced graphics programmers only
It seems to me that this edition of GPU Gems is a step up from Volume 2. The articles are much better illustrated with more pseudocode and with the background mathematics better explained than in the previous edition. Like the other books in the series, there is not enough complete information to write an application from start to finish, but if you have a background in computer graphics it ...

Every day is a revelation!
I love to loan my books, but there is no way I can loan this one. It is full of underlines and notes in the margin. Every day is another lesson in, 'whoops! Yes, that IS something I need to work on!' I just ordered Sparkling Gems from the Greek for my husband as his devotional for 2009. Excellent!

Rocks, Gems and Minerals: Revised and Updated (A Golden Guide from St. Martin's Press)5 reviews
Paul R. Shaffer, Herbert S. Zim

Golden Guides from St. Martin's Press, 2001

A brief comment
This was my first book on identification at the age of 10. These guides were invaluable teaching tools back when there wasn't much else around for the young reader, and this was one of the earlier guides in the set, which eventually grew to dozens of books, some on specialized topics, such as Fungi and Non-Flowering Plants, Pond Life, Fossils, Seashells, Spiders and Their Relatives, The Heart, ...

Intended for the intermediate to advanced game programmer, this is a book that will literally have something for everyone. Geeta S. Iyengar

Timeless Books, 2002

A great tool for beginners
I first got this book from the library when I was waiting to have surgery for uterine growths. I had never done yoga, and I was looking for a way to ease my pain. Game Programming Gems 7 (Game Programming Gems Series)1 review
Scott Jacobs

Charles River Media, 2008

Articles are decent; I hope the CD is a joke
There is some decent written material here, although the articles are typically vague and seem to omit important implementation details more often than not. However, if you're buying this book thinking you are going to get working examples... you're not. The CD is absolutely ridiculous. Of the half-dozen examples I've looked at so far, one was completely missing and all but one of the others ...

Secrets of the Gem Trade: The Connoisseur's Guide to Precious Gemstones20 reviews
Richard W. Wise

Brunswick House Pr, 2006

One of the top 10 books for your gemological library.
If his book Secrets of the Gem Trade has made Richard a rock star, it is because he has accomplished the notable feat of making the nuances of fine gems accessible, not only in his rich text but also with extraordinary images of extraordinary gemstones; many as seen through the lens of famed gem and mineral photographer Jeffrey Scovil.
