Great photos, not so much of a tour book
This book has great photos. I always enjoy looking at DK Publishing's books - they are so pretty. However, if you are looking for a true travel guide, this is not the book.

Whet their appetite for history!!
We used _Famous Men of Greece_ and the accompanying _Greenleaf Guide to Famous Men of Greece_ to teach ancient Greek history to our elementary age children. They loved it! The style is very story-like and makes a great read-aloud. It cover Greek mythology, legendary historical characters, and all of the traditional famous men I wanted our children to know about. Although we are extremely ...

I have led 10 study tours to Turkey and Greece (University students and adult learners). I like this book so much that all the participants bring it along. Group members then read about the sites we will vist the night before and with the information supplied by F&R they are primed and well prepared for the next day. The book is oriented toward biblical sites and the commentary and maps are ...

Great stand-alone as well as companion book
In a recent survey of my school students, grades K through 4, Magic Tree House books won hands down as the favorite, with a strong showing in all five grade levels. The Research Guides are an excellent addition to a library collection. The connection with Jack and Annie is enough to hook any and all readers of the fiction series. But the research guides stand on their own as informative and ...

best short, complete book on ancient Greece
If you don't know much about ancient Greek history or culture, this is the best short book I know of. On every page, in every sentence, the author gets straight to the point, with no fancy obfuscations, assuming no prior knowledge. I've never seen a better organized history of ancient Greece. Besides that, I strongly approve of the map selection and the timelines. He gives just enough depth to be ...

This one deserves six stars!!!
Wow, what a masterpiece! I started my self-conducted study of ancient Greek history with a different textbook. A good one but it did not impress me quite as much as this one. Written in a clear and fluent language, covering the whole range of Greece's ancient histoy and enriched with excellent pictures and diagrams, it makes the reading not only highly informative but also pleasant and ...

I found this latest guide to be just what I was looking for. This covered all the areas of interest to me and gave specific info as to accomodations, travel time, and helpful hints. It has enough glossy photos and the layout was easy to follow. A good purchase!

Love Eyewitness Travel - Photos
Over the past years of travel with my "trusty" Eyewitness Travel Books I have had the most incredible experiences. Changed my life & the biggest reason is the gorgeous photos. When you arrive at a destination you know where to go & what to look for-so exciting. Now, I am a big believer of not taking away the mystery of tomorrow because you will loose your magic of today but these are a must! So ...

EXCELLENT RESOURCE
My husband and I have been to Greece 3 times using our 4th edition LP Greece. The maps are excellent; we've gotten exactly where we need to go. We read about the different islands, appear at the port w/our luggage, and take whatever boat is going next to a particular group, i.e. Cyclades, and read about the various other stops on the way. The book is not designed to be a travel agent by doing ...

Brilliant! The best of the Greece books
A terrific guide to both the Greek mainland and the islands. Spent several months trawling around the country, at first with several guide books, Fodors, Rough Guide, Lonely Planet, etc., but finally found that the Rough Guide knew the country best, and made for a more entertaining travel companion, so I ditched the other books about three weeks into the trip. Absolutely the only book for ...

Even in mythic Greece, everything old is new again. While ageless in the appeal of its ancient ruins and sunbelievable beaches, Greece now has a hip and happening vibe. The post-Olympic "European" country is burgeoning with luxe resorts, hot restaurants, and sophisticated nightlife that challenges the Zorba-era conceptions of the spartan Aegean. To track all the buzz, this new edition comes newly loaded with photos, magazine-like features on ...

This is all about Greece!!
I am living in Greece and was given this book as a gift. This book will give you so many insights into Greek regions, foods, wines and life. It is broken down into food groups such as vegetables, cheeses, meats, and wines from each region. The photography is also amazing. After having lived here for two years, I can really understand why certain foods are from each region and how the cuisine ...

Great Map!
This map was easy to read, gave us enough detail for driving to various locations throughout the country and was very practical. The only problem was when driving on the roads in Greece, none but the super-highways has any route markers. We drove for miles and miles on state highways and never once saw a route sign. You have to navigate by destinations toward a city or village. (So that's not a ...

What a wonderful book
I can't express how wonderful this book was. I may not be Greek by birth, but I am in my heart. While I go to Greece yearly, I long to be there year-round. This book has helped me connect to my favorite place when I have to be in the States. It is great to read some of the other women's experiences and see how they parallel my own. I highly recommend this book to any woman who loves Greece.

Spend the Day in Ancient Greece
I love this book! Tons of SIMPLE yet fun hands-on activities to learn about Ancient Greece. Coupled with Laurie Carlson's books, Kids Create and Classical Kids, my kids are "living" ancient history. From very simple peplos (like a toga) to a whole set of Greek armor to vases, I have found these to be very budget and time friendly. Our most recent project was making a weaving loom from yarn ...

Activities for teachers to use in their unit on Greece
When I was in the sixth grade we moved twice, and in all three of the schools from New Jersey to Connecticut to Japan I got to study Ancient Greece in the history part of the class. I also got a lot of mileage out of having read Edith Hamilton's "Mythology" (I still have my mythology report with my versions of all of the illustrations). But in all the times I got to study Ancient Greece before, ...

Reminders of Greek culture are everywhere evident today, from bubblegum to plays (Greeks invented both). But what was ancient Greece like for children? As this book explains, youngsters were well educated, sometimes with private teachers. They studied music, practicing as much as three hours a day! They engaged in mock-battles as a way to learn bravery. And they worshipped their gods in temples, just like adults did. This book covers "house ...

As Far as Greek Texts go this one is greart!
Ok I love this text. I used this and its sister text on Romans for my ancient history classes. I find that the only down fall of this particular text is that Pomeroy tends to push her agenda in the beginning. However as far as texts on Greek History go, this is the best.
