The Big Curmudgeon: 2,500 Outrageously Irreverent Quotations from World-Class Grumps and Cantankerous ... 5 reviews Jon Winokur
Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers, 2007
The Big Kahoona This book is terrific. I've never in my life read a book of quotations cover to cover but I read this one cover to cover. It's a joy to read, by and large, a much better book than the earlier one Jon Winokur wrote, and not just because it is fatter.
This book now contains portraits of and interviews with famous curmudgeons (Fran Leibowitz, fresh off the top of my list) while being loaded ...

Grump 4 reviews Janet S. Wong
Margaret K. McElderry, 2001
A book to make you smile when you're too tired to smile... I stumbled onto this book, and fell in love. My toddler loves the story - the rhythm and rhyme of the words is fun to read and listen to. The pictures are lovely, with plenty of details to point out and ask about with young toddlers and readers. (What's Mommy doing? Where is the bowl? What is Baby doing? Have you ever felt grumpy?) It is a delightful book in two important ways: 1) The Mommy is ...

Dial, 2005
Axle Annie is Great! Axle Annie is the dependable school bus driver. She shares the road with Rush Hotfoot - a speed grump. He does all those things bad drivers do - drink coffee, speed, dress, shave, and whatever else anyone can think of. The kids try to help Axel Annie to keep an eye on him. One day, he drives past the school bus while stopped. Axle Annie calls the police and Rush Hotfoot gets a ticket. He's ...

Grump Groan Growl 3 reviews Bell Hooks
Hyperion Book CH, 2008
Great themed storytime read-aloud Pair with "Alexander and the horrible...", "My many colored days", & "Sometimes I'm Bombaloo".
Sometimes kids have their cranky pants on, and it's OK to feel that way, but not so OK to act on it. They need to figure out how to acknowledge their growly moods and independently conquer them. These books help.

The Geography of Bliss: One Grump's Search for the Happiest Places in the World 87 reviews Eric Weiner
Twelve, 2009
Amusing and insightful I read this a few months ago. A friend asked me what I read recently and it took me a while but I remembered this book. It made quite an impression on me. If you are an NPR fan, you would probably enjoy this book. It has similar tone, language, cadence and sense of humor. It is casually intelligent and skeptical but insightful and amusing.

The Grump 4 reviews Mark Ludy
Green Pastures Publishing, Inc, 2000
Wonderful Grump I had the opportunity to get my hands on a copy of this book and I must say that the story is wonderful. The illustrations are some of the richest I have ever seen in a children's book. My favorite part of this book is how delightful searching for the mouse is. I understand that this is a signature illustration of Mr.Ludy's books and I must say after having handed this book around my work, ...

Valentine'S Day Grump - Pbk (Giant First Start Reader) 1 review Greydanus
Troll Communications, 1997
Great first reader! This book is great for a child learning to read. It adds some challenging words to the mix. The story although does repeat the words over and over it does not repeat the same sentences over and over. Which helps to make it interesting for the beginning reader. It has become my 5 year olds favorite book.

The Story of Grump & Pout 4 reviews Jamie Mcewan
Random House Value Publishing, 1991
It's all about comfortable shoes. This is a favorite book in our family. We recently shared this book with our daughter's kindergarten at story hour and they loved it! I hope the author(s) and publisher will seriously consider re-release.
