Katrina Tangen

Internationalist, 1999

A great guide to LA!
A great guide to LA! It highlights the best of LA so that you're not just wandering around this big city. It makes Los Angeles understandable and fun. The author highlights the most interesting places in Los Angeles; the Star hangouts, the best restaurants and the best attractions. And the coverage of Disneyland is just terrific. You can see the author really knows the park. It even includes ...

1000 places to see before you die

The 10 Best of Everything: An Ultimate Guide for Travelers (National Geographic the Ten Best of Everything)18 reviews
Nathaniel Lande, Andrew Lande

National Geographic, 2006

A treasure
This book is not only full of great recommendations, but also enjoyable reading for places one might not get a chance to visit. The food recommendations are, by and large, impeccable, though one might register a few minor cavils when one's favorite place isn't the same as that of the authors.

100 Best Denver Area & Front Range Day Hikes6 reviews
Pamela Irwin

Westcliffe Publishers, 2003

Needs updating and trail maps
There are some important facts that, for various reasons, you will not find covered in this book and would be very helpful for you to know. 1) #100, Castlewood Canyon State Park, Lake Gulch/Inner Canyon Loop. If you start out on the Inner Canyon trail, there is a section where you have to cross Cherry Creek. At this point there is what looks like a makeshift footbridge placed in the water ...

100 Best All-Inclusive Resorts of the World9 reviews
Jay Paris, Carmi Zona-Paris

Globe Pequot, 1999

It worked for me
We bought the book because it seemed thorough and well written at first glance. Both my wife and I eventually read most of it -- it was entertaining and well done. We used it to select the kind of vacation we wanted and the particular resort. I found it to have a lot of diverse, interesting choices with great detail. We traveled to a resort in the Bahamas that the Parises recommended and found it ...

GPP Travel, 2006

100 Best All- Inclusive resorts of the world
Book is fair. It is broken down into chapters-North America, Carribean, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Introduction explains what an all inclusive resort is and what should be covered. The descriptions of each resort and the contact information is excellent and very detailed. I really wish there were more pictures for you to get a feel forn the resorts.

Katharine D. Dyson

Globe Pequot Pr, 1996

Fantastic resource for planning the Honeymoon of your dreams
Katharine does a fantastic job of picking the most romantic resorts in the world. My wife and I use this as our primary trip guide for all our travels. If Katharine doesn't cover it, then you probably don't want to stay there!

100 Best Family Resorts in North America: 100 Quality Resorts With Leisure Activites for Children and Adults3 reviews
Janet Tice, Jane Wilford

Globe Pequot, 1999

Fun for Parents and Children
I understand the first reviewers comments, but do not completely agree. Families are looking for vacations that have activites that appeal to all ages. 100 Best Family Resorts in North America describes all types of resorts, hotels, ranches, etc. that cater to FAMILIES. A family can spend lots of time together if they want, or parents and children can choose their own activites. None of ...

10.9 years: A guide to the geology of Westchester County, New York (Rochester Mineralogical Symposium)2 reviews
Thomas McGuire

Rochester Mineralogical Symposium, 1991

one of my favorite books
Travel book that not only details the author's journeys around the world, but also back in time, to find the origin of Coleridge's famous poem about Xanadu. Very interesting and readable, I have read it three or four times now, always with pleasure. Readers who like "The Road to Ubar" (another fabulous travel/detective story) will like the "Way to Xanadu."

100 Best Resorts of the Caribbean2 reviews
Kay Showker

Globe Pequot, 2000

A first-rate general intro to Caribbean resorts
I knew nothing about the Caribbean. I bought this book, read it carefully, selected a resort based on Showker's nitpicky and thorough information, and had a great time with NO major surprises. Not only is it a tremendously helpful and trustworthy guide, it's fun to read. I read it whenever I feel the need to escape, if only in fantasy, from cold, grey New England winters.
