Good Guys and Bad Guys: Behind the Scenes with the Saints and Scoundrels of American Business (and Everything ... 2 reviews Joe Nocera
Portfolio Hardcover, 2008
An Abundance of Eloquent Insights Great journalists are renowned for "getting the story" and then telling it well because they are gifted raconteurs whose keen analytical minds focus on who and what are most interesting as well as most significant. They suggest implications that help their readers (and viewers) to gain a greater understanding of what the "story" means. In recent years, my favorite journalists include Ken Auletta, ...

Guys write for Guys read 22 reviews Jon Scieszka
Viking Juvenile, 2005
Excellent! Something for the "hate books" guy My 7th grader, who won't read anything except skateboard, videogame and dirt bike magazines [and to be honest "read" is stretching it--mostly looks at the cool photo] absolutely LOVED this! It's worth it for the Boy Scout story alone!!! Too bad schools can't do guy only classes--this would be perfect for a guys only middle school class!!!!

My Guy Barbaro: A Jockey's Journey Through Love, Triumph, and Heartbreak with America's Favorite Horse 10 reviews Edgar Prado, John Eisenberg
Harper, 2008
EDGAR PRADO'S LAST COMMENT IN THE BOOK.... His last comment is "I hope I've done him justice." He most definitely has! This was a truly heartwarming story of the magnificent rapport between a jockey and a wonderful horse. They shared a kinship, and throughout the book, the reader is able to feel and rejoice in their bond. Sadly, Barbaro had to ultimately be euthanized, but you never doubt that he really felt the love that surrounded ...

Red Wheel/Weiser, 2008
Build the Foundation of a Fearless Life One of the section headings in Guy Finley's great new book, The Essential Laws of Fearless Living, is "Build the Foundation of a Fearless Life," and in fact, that's what this book is all about. It shows the reader, step-by-step, how to develop the inner strength to meet the world head-on, without fear, disappointment, regrets, recriminations, or any other negative state. All my life I've ...

Shoo, Fly Guy! (Fly Guy) 8 reviews Tedd Arnold
Cartwheel Books, 2006
Accidental discovery. Shoo Fly guy is a cute little story about a boy and his pet fly. The boy goes on a picnic and the fly tries to find him.
My daughter liked following his fly patterns and the stuff he visits.
I was a little concerned about one incident where he goes by a road kill frog. But she is fascinated by death for some reason(we lost a cat) so it didn't bother her.
On thing she did like is where ...

The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron 127 reviews Bethany McLean, Peter Elkind
Portfolio Trade, 2004
Corporate arrogance gone amok When one reads 'The Smartest Guys In The Room' there is one question that keeps recurring. How did no-one at Enron foresee the company's grizzly demise. The folly of mark to market accounting was reason enoough to expect certain problems, but the endless treadmill that Enron placed itself on concerning the stock price made those problems an inevitability.
Although Elkind and Mclean portray the ...

No More Mr. Nice Guy! 45 reviews Robert A. Glover
Running Press, 2003
A revelation.... I read this book with a highlighter. It isn't very big, being only 175 pages long. But, each page has a new and challenging thought. The cover has a guy taking off his jacket, preparing to go to war. The war is with yourself. I found myself in these pages. I realized why I avoid family functions. I realized why I make unspoken contracts with people who don't know I'm expecting something ...

Super Fly Guy 6 reviews
Cartwheel Books, 2006
Great for starting to read! My six year old son loved this book. He doesn't particularily like to read and the stories are usually rather dull for this level. He read the whole book himself and I didn't have to prod him to keep reading. We were laughing through the whole story.

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Fly Guy 6 reviews Tedd Arnold
Cartwheel Books, 2007
Great early reader! It's tough to find books at my son's reading level that excite him. The fly guy books always fit the bill. With silly boy humor and a well laid out text for early readers I recomend these books to all of his friend's parents.

It's A Guy Thing : An Owner's Manual for Women 17 reviews David Deida
HCI, 1997
One of the best books on understanding the sexes I've been involved in self awareness work for 29 years. The relief I find by understanding Divine Masculine and Feminine energies is tremendous. It has given me the clarity to know what serves me best in intimate relationship, how I can best serve my partner, and how we can keep passion and love alive. I wish this book was given to every girl when she turned 16 as a "rite of passage" tool. As ...

The Guy Book: An Owner's Manual 14 reviews Mavis Jukes
Crown Books for Young Readers, 2002
Perfect for young boys I did a fair amount of research and purchased two books that I hoped would be appropriate to give to my son sometime after he turns 12. After reading the first book (which I have reviewed elsewhere) I was very disapointed and discouraged. When I read the next book, though, the book by Mavis Jukes (who I did not even realize is a woman until my wife point that out to me later), I was quite ...

The Guy Not Taken: Stories 55 reviews Jennifer Weiner
Washington Square Press, 2007
Well-Written, But Lacking While The Guy Not Taken is not Jennifer Weiner's best work, however, remember to take into account that she wrote these stories a while ago. That having been said, if you are looking for an okay book with okay short stories, then this is the book for you. It is not the best book I have ever read, however, it was a good beach read.
Some of the problems with the stories are that they end too ...

Ysabel 42 reviews Guy Gavriel Kay
Roc Hardcover, 2007
GGK is the best I believe that I have read every book by GGK and I think he is one of the best writers on in the market today. I liked this book a lot but is not his best work. I loved the ending and I think it wraps things up nicely. The book is quite different from his major fantasy works that has obviously put some people off. It does seem like something he wrote on vacation in the South of France with ...

The Art of the Start: The Time-Tested, Battle-Hardened Guide for Anyone Starting Anything 173 reviews Guy Kawasaki
Portfolio Hardcover, 2004
brilliant guidelines for starting your business I was somewhat skeptical when I started this book. Though attracted by the author's reputation, I was afraid to find this book yet another shallow collection of information for dummies. I was wrong. The author wastes no time on pontification but rather noninvasively shows what's important and why. Whether to use the technique is then up to the reader. And he does that in a concise and ...
