One of the best technical books I have ever read.
One of the best technical books I have ever read. Starts simple and ramps up very fast building on material already presented. Goes in detail in showing many different "low level" exploitation techniques. I.e. buffer overflow, format string abuse, etc.

While starting out in a new career, this book has been recommended to me time and time again. I have some background in security and penetration testing however this book takes you into a deeper understanding of how things work. I strongly recommend it for the beginner as well as the seasoned Information Security Professional.

A perfect reference for IT-security consultants
Contents Second edition of books I like are always welcome - and this book is no exception. So I was very happy when I was provided a review copy from the publisher. I really liked the first edition of this book and consider this follow up an essential book for IT-security consultants and other professionals. The book is comprised of five parts which each give an overview of important ...

The best book to start your Web application hacking experience
I recently received copies of Hacking Exposed: Web Applications, 2nd Ed (HE:WA2E) by Joel Scambray, Mike Shema, and Caleb Sima, and Professional Pen Testing for Web Applications (PPTFWA) by Andres Andreu. I read HE:WA2E first, then PPTFWA. Both are excellent books, but I expect potential readers want to know which is best for them. I could honestly recommend readers buy either (or both) books. ...

Simple Threats Can Cause Serious Problems
Johnny Long's book, "No Tech Hacking," brings new attention to overlooked aspects of information security. In his book, Long reveals how simple threats can cause serious problems, even in organizations prepared for a Mission Impossible-style attack scenario. Long recounts how he and his team of ethical hackers consistently access sensitive information with no special equipment or technical ...

A Winner
I bought Hacking Windows Vista to help me make a decision about upgrading to Vista. After reading it, I got more than I bargained for -- it was not just a superficial book dealing with cosmetic changes. It went into depth about making Vista secure, a major concern of mine. It was so well written that nothing was left to guesswork. For example, detailed instructions show you how to undo the hacks ...

Great easy-to-understand quick references
This is a great, easy to read and use reference for both non-technical business leaders as well as IT professionals. It is also a great resource for home computer users, and small- to medium-sized businesses who often do not have the resources to hire dedicated security staff. The book covers the entire spectrum of ways in which computer systems can be compromised and attacked, an ...

Superb Book, great writing style and plenty of useful examples
While Google is for most of us just a search engine, for hackers it is a great tool to gather information and present the attack vector and first of steps against your organization. The opposite side of Google as a search engine is that a lot of networks and organizations out there have no idea what kind information (classified and potentially dangerous) is presented out on the internet and ...

A great Hacking Exposed and VoIP security book
Hacking Exposed: VoIP (HE:V) is the sort of HE book I like. It's fashionable to think HE books are only suitable for script kiddies who run tools they don't understand against vulnerable services they don't recognize. I like HE books because the good ones explain a technology from a security standpoint, how to exploit it, and how to defend it. I thought HE:V did well in all three areas, even ...

Dated - but still terrific!!!
By its very nature, this sort of material is dated by the time it can go to press. That being said, the authors have done an exemplary job of providing material that covers lasting principles, and not specifics that will be immediately invalidated. In addition, supporting material on-line is fresh and regularly updated. A solid 5 stars!

Everything You Need to Know
This is the most important IT security title written in the past year or more. Why? Custom web applications offer more opportunities for exploitation than all of the publicized vulnerabilities your hear about combined. This book gives expert treatment to the subject. I found the writing to be very clear and concise in this 727 page volume. There is minimal fluff. While everything is ...

This book is amazing. It gives you advice and tips on how to make your computer "you" friendly. My PC is running faster and smoother. It might be good if the author can make a 2nd ed with updates of software and stuff like that. Solid but not exceptional
When I read and reviewed Wi-Foo: The Secrets of Wireless Hacking three years ago, I was really impressed. Wi-Foo is obviously showing its age now, but a second edition is in the works. I was excited to see Hacking Exposed: Wireless (HE:W), green cover and all, because I hoped it would be just as good as Wi-Foo but covering newer topics. Overall I think the next Wi-Foo will be better than HE:W, ...

Great Overall View of the Situation
I think that it is difficult, perhaps impossible, to build a modern network that does include at least some Cisco equipment. Following the general set up rules in the various manuals produce a system architecture that is generally considered to be at least reasonably secure. Basically this book may well change your mind on just how secure your Cisco system really is. As the major supplier of ...

The book is a practical guide where every topic is covered completely and succinctly. It does not waste your time with fluff and focuses on cutting edge issues related to Web 2.0 security. This book is not meant to be the end-all for web security. As the title states, it is focused on Web 2.0. Already out of date, but still worth the read
Although I really enjoy this book, it's too bad that it's already out of date (as mentioned in other reviews). As someone with very little previous experience with JavaScript, I found this book to be really helpful it describing how to make stuff happen. I personally have found the Google Maps API Documentation to be far too terse and difficult to figure out; kinda like reading a dictionary ...

I couldn't put this book down. The adacity of this man... .it was her fault that he had to kill her because she had the "nerve" to berate him. When this crime happened I remember thinking "he did it" but his reasoning because she stood up to him. I hope he rots in prison. I hope all Mormen men don't think like this!
