Princess Academy105 reviews
Shannon Hale

Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, 2007

Great Read
This is a fun tale featuring a young mountain girl, Miri, forced to undergo Princess training as a potential bride to the prince. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the title, everything else was great. The characters were all complex and believable and the pacing was first rate. I couldn't put the book down and was sad when it ended.

Medications and Mothers Milk: A Manual of Lactational Pharmacology (Medications and Mother's Milk)21 reviews
Thomas W., Ph.D. Hale

Pharmasoft Medical Publishing, 2008

fantastic resource
As a pharmacist, this is absolutely the first book I turn to for any question about medication and breastfeeding. It's very readable, and has both the quick, "bottom-line" recommendation and an explanation of the quality and quantity of research that led to that conclusion. I recommend it to anyone in the medical field who might encounter a breastfeeding patient as well as any woman who is ...

The Dinosaurs' Night Before Christmas7 reviews
Anne Muecke

Chronicle Books, 2008

A Christmas classic for dinosaur lovers
This book totally charmed me. I have always loved the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and this book is set there. It is really funny to read a dinosaur version of the night before Xmas rhyme-- and the art is beautiful-- great dino party scenes with them dancing around the fire, etc. The music is very fun-- it has holiday tunes with the words changed-- there is an "allosaurus ...

Mind Performance Hacks: Tips & Tools for Overclocking Your Brain (Hacks)24 reviews
Ron Hale-Evans

O'Reilly Media, Inc., 2006

The Operator's Manual for Your Brain
This book has a few non-practical (and thus weak) sections, but overall this is required reading for members of the human species.

The Sedona Method: Your Key to Lasting Happiness, Success, Peace and Emotional Well-Being74 reviews
Hale Dwoskin

Sedona Press, 2003

Imagine if you could let go of any unwanted feelings
Imagine if you could let go of any unwanted feelings . . . even better, think about how great it would be if you had a simple procedure that could help you achieve this state of mind in a very short period of time. That's the basis of THE SEDONA METHOD by Hale Dwoskin . . . the author actually gives you all the information that you would learn in one of his seminars. For example, to ...

Book of a Thousand Days59 reviews
Shannon Hale

Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, 2007

Maid Maleen thrown on its head in this haunting twist
I was a little displeased with Hale's "Enna Burning." I'm happy to say this made up for it. Hale takes the fairy tale of Maid Maleen and sets it Mongolia--with the tale's ignored maid as our main character and heroine. The story is told via Dashti's journal, an account of she and her lady's imprisonment in a tower and their life afterwards. Hale takes many liberties with the tale, but I could ...

Rapunzel's Revenge12 reviews
Shannon Hale, Dean Hale

Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, 2008

As clever as it is good-humored
Who knew Rapunzel had it in her? All those years spent locked away in that tower, waiting for some handsome young prince to come along and rescue her --- wait, she didn't need a man to get out of that predicament? It turns out Rapunzel was actually a kick-butt heroine who had a feisty temperament and tenacity --- or at least that's how a trio of Hales have envisioned her. Shannon Hale, a ...

Santa Barbara Living1 review
Diane Dorrans Saeks, The Editors of Santa Barbara Magazine

Rizzoli, 2008

CALIFORNIA DREAMIN
Even with the devasting fires that recently ravaged this region, this area is without a doubt the most beautiful in America, and this book shows it at its very best. Santa Barbara is blessed with the perfect semi arid climate of the French Riviera and wealthy Americans for more than a century have made it a haute playground. This book lets you inside this rarified world and lets you appreciate ...

The Goose Girl123 reviews
Shannon Hale

Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, 2005

I <3ed dis BOOK!!!!!!!
Goose Girl by Shannon Hall is like a realistic fairytale. Sure, it has its share of magic, but everything just feels so possible and there is such a struggle for finding one's place. Princess Anidora is such an inspiring character because her problems don't just solve themselves and she needs the help of others. Ani, also known as Isi, is someone that you want to sympathize with because to be ...

Baby Love: An Affectionate Miscellany4 reviews

Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2008

For Anyone Who Oohs and Aahs Over Babies
Rachael Hale has created a book for anyone who loves babies, plain and simple. With wee ones ranging from 2 and a half weeks to 11 months, she captures them being exuberantly happy, perplexed, intense, thoughtful, and, to me most precious of all, asleep. Interspersed with poems, facts and sayings (we learn where the gendered pink and blue come from) about babies, her photos, especially the ...

Austenland: A Novel128 reviews
Shannon Hale

Bloomsbury USA, 2008

Finally!
I've recently started to read "Jane Austen sequels" and this is one of the books that kept popping up, along with Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict. I read "Confessions..." first and was greatly disappointed. Then I picked up this one. As I mentioned in my review of "Confessions", this isn't exactly a "Jane Austen sequel" but I'm going to lump it into that category. The main character in ...

Nathan Hale: The Life and Death of America's First Spy3 reviews
M. William Phelps

Thomas Dunne Books, 2008

Regrets and honor
Other than a few children's authors, no one has published a definitive biography of Nathan Hale for decades. M. William Phelps has now stepped in to fill the gap. Using his investigative research skills, honed as a true crime writer, Phelps has combed the archives to find any and all of the information currently available about the life of Nathan Hale. That is not an easy task, as most of the ...

Wicked Gentlemen39 reviews

Blind Eye Books, 2007

Wicked Gentlemen- A Joyfully Recommended Title
Belimai Sykes is many things--a Prodigal, or living descendant of demons, a drug addict, and a sometime-private investigator. When Inquisition Captain William Harper comes to Belimai's lodgings, seeking Belimai's help in finding his sister, Belimai agrees to take the job. The case proves to be considerably more complex than either Belimai or Captain Harper anticipated, however, and so do their ...

Snog: A Puppy's Guide to Love6 reviews

Little, Brown and Company, 2007

You Love Dogs? You Need This Book!
After reading "Snog" a few times, I set it on my coffee table. So far, there hasn't been a visitor in my home who hasn't picked it up. The photography and phrases are first rate. Next time your puppy has an "accident" on the floor, and you wonder why you love him/her so much, just glance over at "Snog" on the coffee table. You'll remember why.

River Secrets22 reviews
Shannon Hale

Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, 2006

Hilarious & thoughtful
pre script: [This is not the last book of the Books of Bayern! There is a fourth book coming out.www.shannonhale.com!!] This book is the most humorous of the three that Hale wrote. Razo, the main character, seems to be born to be funny! If you read the other two books, you might note that the plot is quite fast-moving. The plot for this book is not as fast as those, but perhaps has more amount of ...

Sin and Syntax: How to Craft Wickedly Effective Prose27 reviews
Constance Hale

Broadway, 2001

I've bought 5 copies of this book over the last 5 years
My sister stole my first copy, my other sister stole my second copy, I gave my third copy to a friend (but only because I knew she would love it as much as I do). My fourth copy doesn't have the dog-eared pages and underlining that my first copy had (I fall into the category of people who think tattered edges and scribbly notes add character to books). And I gave a fifth copy to another friend ...

Phonics Games Kids Can't Resist
This book is excellent for large and small group activities, individual one-on-one tutoring, and easily modified to fit your particular need. I have used it several times in the short amount of time that I have had it. Highly recommended as a resource book.

loved it
Good morning, its 3am and I just finished your book. I dont recall the time I started but I didnt put it down till I was done. I loved your book. I can relate to Yaasa's situation to some extent. Even though the situation is not a good one, I have to say that it is realistic and I was once one of those strong women that happened to get caught up in a bad situation. I wanted to email and let ...

Gardens Private & Personal: A Garden Club of America Book (Garden Club of America)2 reviews
Nancy D'Oench, Bonny Martin

Abrams, 2008

Gardens Private and Personal
I purchased this book because it is a Garden Club of America book. There are pictures of gardens of some of the members I know. I am currently on a garden history and design committee and this book has good examples of good garden photography.
