Healthiest City: Milwaukee And The Politics Of Health Reform2 reviews
Judith W. Leavitt

University of Wisconsin Press, 1996

Outstanding book, Especially for public health officials
I have to say that this is one of the best books that I've ever read. Once you start reading the healthiest city, you won't wanna put it down. I enjoy the fact that the author talked about the problems Milwaukee was facing and how the city officials were able to solve those problems. The problems ranged from garbage, smallpox, milk and many others. This book can truly enlighten one's ...

The Healthiest Diet in the World9 reviews
Nikki Goldbeck, David Goldbeck

Plume, 2001

Terrific all-around guide to nutrition
Pros: 1) The coverage of current scientific understanding of nutrition is comprehensive and detailed, yet clear for nonspecialists. 2) The text is well organized with a quick overview, followed by helpful recipes and tips, in-depth scientific information, references and two good indices. 3) It is apparent that the author is an experienced nutritionist-- she understands the practical problems ...

The Best Birth: Your Guide to the Safest, Healthiest, Most Satisfying Labor and Delivery18 reviews
Sarah McMoyler, Armin Brott

Da Capo Press, 2008

reality based for hospital birth
As a midwife who practices in a hospital, but who also believes that women deserve a greater range of birthing choices than most typically have in America today, I find McMoyler's book to be a reality-based approach to hospital births. A woman SHOULD trust her doctor or midwife and labor nurses because she SHOULD have exercised her right to choose the person and place that best aligns with her ...

The World's Healthiest Food1 review
Anne E. Marshall, Carolyn Kelly, ...

Stewart, Tabori, & Chang, 1996

Excellent
I received this book as a holiday present a few years ago. Almost every recipe I have made from it has been superb! The muesli recipe is one of my husband's favorites, and the chickpea casserole with mango (chole) is one of my standard "potluck" party offerings. I highly recommend this! The photography is just wonderful as well.

The World's Healthiest Foods, Essential Guide for the Healthiest Way of Eating88 reviews
George Mateljan

World's Healthiest Foods, 2006

Excellent Cookbook/ Nutrition Book
This book is a great little package - it's certainly not something you can thumb through and look for recipes like an ordinary cookbook, instad the recipes are found every few pages by food type. My husband remarked that it was like a tomb when I took it out of the box. I think the greatest thing about this book though is that the recipes really do take just 10 to 15 minutes and they taste ...

Healthy at 100: The Scientifically Proven Secrets of the World's Healthiest and Longest-Lived Peoples13 reviews
John Robbins

Ballantine Books, 2007

This book scores 100 out of 100
OVERALL: A must read for all homo sapiens who want to live a happy life, not just a healthy one. PROS: * Quite rational and measured. Robbins constantly tempers his enthusiasm for the four healthy cultures he examines. He refrains from idealizing them, which strengthens his argument. He doesn't gush over their way of life and points out their shortcomings (e.g., lack of refrigeration, dirt ...

Great Book!
For me, this is the best book Jonny has written. Packed with info in an easy to understand format, I reference this regularly, and have sent copies to family. Mediterranean Harvest: Vegetarian Recipes from the World's Healthiest Cuisine13 reviews
Martha Rose Shulman

Rodale Books, 2007

Another solid, well-written entry on the Mediterranean diet
Martha Rose Shulman's Mediterranean Harvest owes a large debt to many who have gone before her, including Diane Kochilas, noted expert on Greek cuisine, and Clifford Wright, James Beard award-winning Mediterranean cookbook author. Shulman is quick to give credit where credit is due, and borrows widely from other culinary experts such as Carol Field (The Italian Baker) in areas of local expertise. ...

12 Best Foods Cookbook: Over 200 Recipes Featuring The 12 Healthiest Foods21 reviews
Dana Jacobi

Rodale Books, 2005

doable by the amateur, very tasty
I've been cooking from this book for the past year and it is fantastic. I wanted something that was healthy without being really dull and preachy. Jacobi makes a somewhat convincing case for her foods, but what's more important is that the recipes taste really good -- even when cooked by a complete amateur (me). Not much to do then follow the relatively simple directions (most recipes have only a ...
