Get it for Step I 'cause First Aid doesn't cut it
First Aid is money for most subjects, but it's weak on neuro. This book is a very good balance between too little and too much for this overwhelming subject. The High Yield series keeps improving in quality, and in the newest edition is even better at showing clinical scenarios and integrating other subjects like pathology or physiology (I used an older version and it's still pretty good, ...

Good if you need quick quick coverage.
Nicely summed up by the reviewer below. If you need a very quick-and-dirty review, this is good. I take points off due to the lack of index and some weak sections. At this point, QBank leads me to believe that this book may not cover everything I needed to know.. but good for last minute stuff, especially if you hate Biochem like myself.

I liked it
This was the perfect supplement to FA. Though it does go into greater detail than necessary sometimes, I felt like I learned every molecular biology concept that could possibly be tested on the USMLE and earned great marks on Qbank. If you have time to read it in early Spring, you should and then not worry about CMB for the rest of the study session.

Excellent Review for a low yield subject on the Boards
This is much more concise than the new version. This little book helps you put the H.Y. facts of embryo together not just as a subject on its own but in conjunction to pathology. I would specially recommend the first 3 chapters to get a quick idea of embryo genesis and the cardio, respiratory, GI sections for quick kill on the congenital abnormalities that are extensively talked about in ...

Excellent Book for NBME Shelf Exam
This book is great for the NBME Shelf exam. I am a 3rd year medical student who recently took the test and this book hit most (if not all) of the topics covered by the exam. It also presents the topics in table form to point out slight differences in clinical presentation that will help you make the diagnosis. There is also an appendix that lists answers to "what is the most common...." which is ...

Great review book
Perfect review book for the USMLE step 1. It is quick yet thorough. I found it was a great supplement to what was in First Aid and had all of the pertinent information. I didn't see any topics on the boards that weren't covered in the book.

The best of the High Yield Series
What it does right: This is the only book in the HY series the give sufficient detail to clinical cases and treatments. If you know this book, you know micro sufficient for USMLE. Goljan path has some other angles to integrate into you micro studying, but this covers the bulk of the classic microorganism, case presentations, and treatments. Concise and easily readable. The section of Q/A is ...

All killer no filler
This is great for Step I. First Aid, which is overall an outstanding review, is weak on anatomy and neuro; this book fills in the gaps. Some like to say anatomy is a low yield subject on Step, and it is, but I got about 14-20 anatomy questions on mine. In the newest edition, the author does an even better job of putting some more typical clinical scenarios. You don't have to know every ...

Great Review Book
This High Yield book is better then most of the books in the High Yield series. It has a clear and quick reading format but is not simply a long outline. It got me through 1st and 2nd year psych courses in med school. Great for Step1 too!

Very High Yield!
High yield cell and molecular biology is exactly what it says, and from the outset doesn't pretend to be anything else. "Lean efficient text" says the blurb, "Study guides with the barest essentials". These words certainly comforted me after reading the somewhat ominous title! The text is compact, with clear and helpful diagrams illustrating and clarifying the most difficult concepts in the ...

good, but it has some problems
This book is good, because it has integrated different subjects, such as, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, etc. However, some of the high yield books including this one are becoming more like the "board review series", they are becoming too detailed. People won't sue them if those books miss a few details, people are reading this book and other high yield because they want to get the ...

excellent for usmle prep
This is not a typical histology book...in the sense that it contains, pharmacology, pathology, physiology and anatomy and very little histology and histopathology. The book is extremely HIGH YIELD for usmle but not for a class in histology. It covers topics ranging molecular biology of signal transduction to the coagulation cascade. First year medical students will not recognize much of the info ...
