Homage to Robert Frost3 reviews
Joseph Brodsky

Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1997

Brodsky's explanation of Frost's work is the best I've seen
If you need to read one critical examination of Robert Frost, buy this & read Joseph Brodsky's fantastic, accessible take on "Home Burial". What a great book this is--three fine poets examining a brilliant poet. But it is Brodsky who best holds to the Frost credo--he speaks clearly and plainly.

But Do Blondes Prefer Gentlemen?: Homage to Qwert Yuiop and Other Writings1 review
Anthony Burgess

McGraw-Hill, 1986

Very good company, this Burgess fellow
I've read only a few Anthony Burgess novels (the Orange and _1985_) and keep meaning to get around to _Earthly Powers_ and _A Dead Man in Deptford_, but I sure enjoy his nonfiction. The two volumes of his autobio come highly recommended. And this. A pity this big ol' honkin' collection of essays is out of print. Burgess covers the waterfront, from other writers ("Mailer may need money to ...

A Star for Noon: An Homage to Women in Images, Poetry and Music2 reviews
Gordon Parks

Bulfinch, 2000

Gordon Parks does it again with a Star For Noon
Gordon Parks, an American renaiisance man, is one who will never cease to amaze us. A remarkable man with a remarkable vision, he invites us into his world with his new book, A Star For Noon. The book is a compilation of poems and photographs of his greatest muse...woman. Parks, a photographer who gained fame in the 40's, 50's, and 60's as a photographer of Life magazine, publishes still ...

Homage to the Himalayas1 review

"Harry N. Abrams, Inc.", 2006

deeply moving photographs
I checked this book out of the library and fell in love with it. The landscapes have the quality of a dream, or a painting. I appreciated the photographer who would choose these sights to capture with the camera. The thumbnail index at the end was most interesting in explaining the fascinating images. And at a very reasonable price.

Helvetica: Homage to a Typeface7 reviews
Lars Müller

Lars Müller Publishers, 2005

It's no Akzidenz
First the mystery: just why was every alternate page in the book joined together? The reader has to carefully cut the perforations to be able to look at every page. I can't find any reference in the small amount of text about this. My conclusion is that the public use of the type is on the open pages and non-public (or designed) examples are on the perforation joined pages. At least you'll ...

Homage to Catalonia92 reviews
George Orwell

Harvest Books, 1980

A Supplement and an Obituary
"Homage to Catalonia" has long passed from the shelf for current events to the shelf of primary historical sources. No one can study the Spanish Civil War without encountering it. On that basis, it's a five-star book; all primary sources should get five stars. As a reading experience, it's not without weaknesses, which the earlier review by H. Schneider examines cogently. I refer you to that ...

Homage to the Sun: The Wisdom of the Magus of Strovolos4 reviews
Kyriacos C. Markides

Penguin (Non-Classics), 1988

An excellent book on out of body experience and travel
Homage To The Sun is an excellent book on Daskalos Kostas, and their group the Order of the Unpointed Dagger. It relates how Daskalos tells us how our Karma, Fate, and life is evolving through phases. He tells us how to briefly train for out of body experiences, and what we must face as to the spirits of the land and nature. The book also relates about the more then four dimensions we in ...

Homage to Pythagoras: Rediscovering Sacred Science1 review

Lindisfarne Books, 1994

loaded
I have read this book more than twice and still I continue to glean information from it. It's loaded with information/fact from architecture music form that will help any person relate facts of number to each other. This is one of the best books that I've read concerning sacred geometry. I recommend.

Paul J. Stankard: Homage to Nature6 reviews
Ulysses Grant Dietz

Harry N Abrams, Incorporated, 1996

Finally! How does he do that?
While I wouldn't consider myself a "paperweight" fan, I admire Paul Stankard's work immensely. For so long I've wondered, "how does he accomplish such wonderful things?". This book cannot show his unique genius nor how his imagination works, but it does show just enough of his techniques to sate my never ending curiosity. You can see how a thistle is built. There are gorgeous pictures of ...

Homage to Catalonia (Penguin Modern Classics)1 review
George Orwell

Penguin Classics, 2003

Oh to be in Spain, now that war is here...
Not long after George Orwell wrote HOMAGE TO CATALONIA, a famous friend of his remarked to him, "You've turned what could could have been a good book into journalism." Orwell, who could take it as good as he could give it, agreed that this was the case, but added that if he hadn't been thinking journalistically when he wrote it, it never would have been written at all. In an essay called "Looking ...

Homage to Czerny
Gert Jonke

Dalkey Archive Press, 2008

Gert Jonke's prose ripples along like a piano etude, transcending its meticulously constructed sequences to transport the reader into an imaginary world. With a delightful combination of the ridiculous and the sublime, Jonke explores surreal dimensions of space and sound, always anchoring his flights of fancy in accessible imagery. More than any other author, Jonke, a pianist turned writer, avails himself of compositional techniques from ...

The Fountain of the Love of Wisdom: An Homage to Marie-Louise Von Franz1 review

Chiron Publications, 2006

Hommage for M.L. von Franz
This collection of contributions honors the great ML. von Franz - for sure one of C.G. Jungs most wonderful pupils. A small part of the book is just a collection of what is written on the back cover of her books...but most impressive and touching is what people say about her, people she knew in private and her analysands..it also uncovers some of her personal attitudes and she speaks freely about ...

Homage to the Lame Wolf: Selected Poems2 reviews
Vasko Popa

Oberlin College Press, 1987

I have entered the realm of magical realism!
This is an incredible collection of poetry by Vasko Popa -- an incredible European poet. The poems are very surreal; it is required to read each poem at least three times in order to grasp its meaning. Each poem has a beautiful and strange world of its own. Plus, there is a lot of magical realism in this book, which is something I always look for in literature. My favorite Popa poems are ...
