MOMMY DEAREST...
This is a well-written, gripping true crime tale. I simply could not put the book down! It is a tragic story that is profoundly sad, as it deals with the murder of a woman, Jane Bautista, by her older son, Jason Bautista, with the knowledge and blessing of the younger one, Matt Montejo. Jane Bautista was mentally ill, and they simply could no longer deal with her erratic and frightening behavior. ...

fascinating
This is a fascinating look at one of the most notorious execution devices made infamous in A Tale of two Cities. However, the best passages are the stories of those who danced with Madame Guillotine, but these are disjointed with sudden switches to other poignant segues. Interestingly, the inventor Dr. Joseph-Ignace Guillotin created the device during the French Revolution as a cleaner way to ...

Timely and Topical
As the "killer storms" lash California, those in search of some perspective would do well to check out this book. The authors conclude that most of the development in San Diego county took place during a relatively dry period in recent history (1940-73). The authors believe that this bodes poorly for houses built on the sea shore. As with all books that prognosticate horrific implications ...

Hiroshima of The Frogs
This book is another in a series of books written about the subject of frog deformities. This book sheds an urgency on the problem in a dramatically written narrative, that hopefully will inform and concern most readers. While many people make light of the fact that the world has a frog problem, no one can dispute that global changes are affecting these animals at an increasing rate. Even if the ...

Superb Coker cartoons, but...
If you've seen Paul Coker Jr.'s "Horrifying Clishes" in Mad magazine, you know how great they are. Paul Coker is one of the greatest cartoonists who ever lived, and the concept behind this series really gives him a chance to show off his unique talent. BUT... Somebody thought they'd get fancy and add some color to the drawings, and they MESSED THEM UP! The color is done on a computer, and it ...

INVISIBLE DARKNESS is THE BOOK on the Bernardo/Homolka case!
Hello true-crime enthusiest! I've read all six books on this case. Yes, there are truly six out there. I believe only O.J. Simpson and Charles Manson share this honor. Not all are available through amazon.com., however. "Invisible Darkness" is easily the best book on this case. I believe this to be the reason that only this book out of the six released on this case started out as a ...

More then I ever expected
Sitting at Barnes and Noble bookstore I was rummaging through the True Crime book section, looking for a new book to read for a school book project. I came across "The Sex Slave Murders" by Flowers and decided it would do for my project. Not only did this book just satisfy my criteria for school, it satisfied me as a reader. Normally, I am one to skip pages and not want to read, but I couldn't ...

The Wall
Cindy Sarro did an excellent job telling her story! I found her book to be extremely easy to read and very captivating. My heart went out to Cindy and her horrifying ordeal. One good thing that came out of this was that Cindy has a wonderful talent for writing and knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. I hope that she draws from her experiences and continues to write because I would ...

Interesting
Maybe "some" facts are incorrect but if this is the way to geta problem before the public I think it is worth it. I was amazed at so many incidents I had never heard of. If it gets people to read it, & even critisize it, it is still doing a usefulness to the public. If it alerts one person to see some of these signs in any child and reports it in time to save a life I say good for the ...

re: the 5th boy on the front cover
I also have the book where there is 5 kids on the cover rather than 4. I dont know who he is either. I have spoken to Jaden Murphy online, also his friends. I have also recieved a letter from Rod, which was very artistically written. He is a smart young man, and I do not think he deserves death for what he did.

Not so macabre
The title is a bit misleading as I've found this book to be more of collection of random and rather vague tidbits of bizarre (and a few space-filling) facts. It is interesting, just not nearly as dark as the title/description would have you believe. (i.e. I didn't find the fact describing the number of bridges between the mouth of River Thames and Teddingtonto be that particularly "horrifying"). ...
