Good for advanced gardeners
This is a great resource for advanced gardeners interested in learning about a variety of species within a genus. I have been able to identify many lesser known plants that I have inherited using this book. It tells in-depth information about the genus and lists several species with pictures of many of the species. There is very little info about when plants bloom or where they should be ...

A genius of a little handbook, beautiful and smart
Without hesitation I would recommend this little (see the dimensions, above) book. It is a quick reference for US gardeners who seek guidance about year-round plantings. The book sorts plants into six seasons: early spring; late spring; early summer; late summer; autumn; winter. Each plant has a small, but in most cases entirely adequate color photograph and an annotation which includes ...

Awesome book, very thorough coverage of propagation
I was looking for ways to create new trees and plants on my 12-acre property without having to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars. I bought a bunch of small trees, shrubs and perennials, and bought this book to learn how to use cuttings and other techniques to multiply my investment. So far, so good. I will be using this book a lot over the coming years.

A very basic book covering all the fundamentals of successful clematis growing. Superb color photographs. It is a must for anyone contemplating growing clematis. The information is presented in a down to earth non-technical way. It is truly worth its purchase price - some more expensive books do not have half this much information. In one volume, the AHS Encyclopedia manages to cover 8000 plant varieties, 4000 of them with color photos. This is by far the best way of getting a comprehensive directory of garden plants at a reasonable price. For each plant, it gives basic information such as size, color, season of bloom, cold tolerance, etc. and often considerably more information about cultural conditions, propagation, ...
