The Calligrapher's Bible: 100 Complete Alphabets and How to Draw Them 17 reviews David Harris
Barron's Educational Series, 2003
Marvellous handbook! I have dabbled with calligraphy and have several books myself, most of them are big and have beautiful pictures and present the same styles; Roman, Uncial, Italic and Gothic styles with some variations. I ordered this book because of the raving reviews and its low price and was greatly, pleasantly surprised!
Firstly: the book isn't big in size, it's actually about the size of a normal novel ...

How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way 64 reviews Stan Lee, John Buscema
Fireside, 1984
Outstanding Place to Start Some of you folks writing reviews are, like me, graphic designers. And, yes, I too have owned this wonderful book. I even laughed at the publication date at the top of the page because mine is from 1978!
Lee and Buscema are two of the foundation blocks of Marvel Comics and I wouldn't expect anything less from this wonderful work. If you are a beginning or almost intermediate comic book artist, ...

Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning 294 reviews Jonah Goldberg
Doubleday, 2008
A History Lesson and a Warning for the Future I have always been interested in history and remember reading many articles and books about FDR and the Depression. The opposition to the New Deal was usually painted as "those rich guys just don't want to share." Packing the Supreme Court I knew about, but not the realy reason for FDR's attempting to do this. How fitting that we are now living in the era of an "environmental crisis" where the ...

kids dig it I bought this as a gift for the daughter (7 years old I believe) of a friend of mine. I am very impressed by the results. She snapped it up and immediately began using it. You could see her drawing improve almost immediately, and she came up with some very impressive (and hilarious) drawings.
I can't really give the book any higher praise than that.

How To Draw Fairies And Mermaids (Usborne Activities) 5 reviews Fiona Watt
Usborne Books, 2005
Fabulous I got this for my 6 year old daughter who loves fairies and mermaids. The art projects are awesome, many different ways to create, each project can take around an hour to do. Some of the projects need parental guidance for her age, delicate tissue paper, cutting tin foil, etc. but the outcome is always amazing and she loves to display her work, which really turns out to look professional. ...
